### 5/5 — Excellent listening

*2020-04-13, version 1.3.3*

Yes, it’s deep and detailed. That’s what I want in a history podcast. It’s all the little bits of information that help create the big picture. I’m hooked. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2020-03-11, version 1.3.3*

Great lectures that mix academic depth with down to earth delivery.

### 5/5 — Best podcast ever!

*2019-02-25, version 1.3.2*

I’ve never found such a perfect blend of education and entertainment. It’s a must listen!

### 5/5 — I am a little late to the party

*2018-11-13, version 1.3.2*

I discovered this podcast in September after returning from Europe including a stay in London. I went to the British Museum twice while there (it was great). This podcast is really making me regret the missing context, context I will have next time I go. I have been avidly listening during my 30 minute commute each day, during exercise, and on weekends. The story telling is great and the research is solid. This is the way I like getting my history fix!

### 5/5 — Broke my arm and started at the beginning

*2018-09-21, version 1.3.2*

I had BHP in my podcasts and started around the time of Aethelflad. I had just reached the point where I was getting anxious about when the next podcast was coming when I broke my arm.

I went back to the beginning and, though I slept through some of shows where the interviewee was almost unintelligible, I’m hoping I don’t heal so fast that I don’t catch up. Even the many iterations of Osw- names did not deter me!

I’m astonished that there could be so much of history that I’ve never heard of and that it can be made so interesting! Kuddos to Jamie for shining at light on the Dark Ages!

### 5/5 — The British History Podcast

*2018-05-31, version 1.3.2*

Amazingly thorough and well researched on the current literature regarding British History. Great arguments drawing from multiple sources allowing one to draw personal conclusions. Engagement in the community created by the followers is encouraged through all forms of social media. All of this and, yet, NOT at all dry in the delivery (compared to some history classes I’ve taken!). I appreciate the compare/contrasts that incorporates current popular culture and as each episode ends I enjoy reading the responses from fellow listeners to add more depth. Jamie, as the researcher and narrator, is warm and engaging. He includes notations about his family, friends and pets, so one feels as if one is part of a “family” adventure into the vast intricacies of historical Britain! Apart from my personal affinity to British History, I am a “Yank” married to a “Brit” and this podcast has given me some insight into some of the finer points of the British national identity! Thanks!

### 5/5 — The British History Podcast

*2017-02-10, version 1.3.1*

This podcast is superb. Jamie has undertaken the massive task of casting the WHOLE of British History. He does this on a weekly basis in a relaxed, witty and irreverent style. I stumbled on this by accident and within 3 episodes I was hooked. I dare you to try the same. Go ahead; take my challenge! I'm currently playing catch up and have reached the end of the C7th CE. That's about 3 years of weekly casts! 3 years folks! I still have over a hundred casts to go to catch up. Jamie offers all of this for free. He also has a cheap monthly members fee. This gains you even more in depth and specialist programmes. Brilliant. Utterly brilliant. Get on board, don't miss this train!

### 5/5 — Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant

*2016-11-25, version 1.3.1*

This podcast is so good, it's excellently researched, well presented and tapped into an interest I didn't even know i had i.e. british history.

I love Jamie's presentation/sarcasm, great show, thank you👍

### 5/5 — Best. App. Ever.

As a budding archaeologist, I think this app takes a brilliant approach to history, including the one liners and pop culture references! 😆😆

### 5/5 — Awesome show

*2016-02-10, version 1.2*

History the way everyone should learn it. Told in a friendly way but well researched. No useless names and dates without their context. I love this show.

### 5/5 — Great podcast

*2014-10-16, version 1.2*

A very in depth study of all things British. Jamie really digs in and pulls out history that most have never heard about in a fun and informative way.

### 5/5 — The best way to listen.

*2014-10-16, version 1.2*

The British History podcast is my favorite podcast, and with this app, all of the podcasts are right there to listen too.

### 5/5 — The British History Podcast

*2014-10-14*

If you like history, especially European history, you will enjoy this podcast. Weekly episodes of around 30 to 40 minutes is just the right amount to keep you going and interested in the subject. Jamie, who runs and podcast is very easy to listen to, humorous, and has a great grasp of the subject.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

### 5/5 — A Great Podcast..

I highly recommend this to any fan of history. I've always wanted to visit England and now I can't wait to see all the history over there..thanks!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2014-09-26, version 1.2*

I don't normally write reviews, but feel this app is worthy of the effort. Best free app out there for anyone interested in British history, I'm addicted to the story telling approach that is not starchy like some others - excellent!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — 5/5 for content but the app lets it down

*2017-10-24, version 1.3.1*

First of all, let me say that I LOVE the BHP - Jamie is an excellent narrator and you can tell that he has researched each and every episode, and spent a lot of time doing so. Also Producer Zee is a rockstar and I love when she turns up and they bounce ideas off each other.

I've been listening to the free podcast for a couple of years, and when I got up to date, I decided to become a member and paid for a year's membership. I decided to do this as I had enjoyed the clips and odd episodes that Jamie released every now and again.

Now while these episodes are still excellent, the app is not. I normally listen to my podcasts on the go, and so tend to download them at home and listen on the train. With the member's feed, it only streams and I just don't have the data for that. Then it will crash after I've listened to an episode, and I have to do and reopen the whole app. If it crashes in the middle of a show, or I have to pause halfway through, it doesn't store where I'm up to, so I have to guess. And finally it doesn't have a way to know which shows I've listened to, so I can miss some, and repeat others.

All in all, while I love the show, I hate the app, and this is what my rating is for. It makes listening to the member's feed a real faff.

### 4/5 — Very good

*2013-11-18, version 1.1*

I prefer to listen to podcast on iPod touch version of podcast, but for everything else like Facebook, twitter, forum and "what not"I prefer this app, from a listener since the first episode I recommend this app!!!!

### 5/5 — Tom Ord

*2026-03-30, version 1.3.3*

I listen to a lot of history podcasts and am a bit of a history nerd. And this is my favourite - super well researched, a strong point of view and good humour as well as deep insight. Jamie comes across as deeply interested in the topic, in the people and events that shape them and brings that love and engagement to his audience. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Fascinating

*2024-07-19, version 1.3.3*

I am from the United States and have visited the UK 3 times in short stints for a week at a time. Ever since, I have been fascinated about learning about UK history. I also learned a good percentage of my DNA is English from around the London area and Ireland so it intrigues me even more.

This is a wonderful podcast and usually I hate podcasts or even audiobooks due to hearing pretentious voices. Your voice is not and your passion for the subject really comes across to the listener. I listen to about 5-6 episodes at nights when I am diamond painting which together is very relaxing. I plan on listening part of the way through and joining with a membership.

### 5/5 — So good!

*2022-09-10, version 1.3.3*

I love this podcast so much.

### 5/5 — Outstanding!

*2022-07-23, version 1.3.3*

A first class and extremely detailed history podcast delivered with a light touch which makes this a very fine way to find out more about our very colourful history.

### 5/5 — Excellent series

*2021-11-13, version 1.3.3*

First class and comprehensive series of podcasts on British history. Truly excellent, thanks.

### 5/5 — Love the show, would like the app to remember where I paused when I reload the app.

*2021-08-25, version 1.3.3*

That’s all.

### 5/5 — Top podcast

*2021-01-05, version 1.3.3*

I found this podcast when looking for some info on Alfred. I was initially irritated that a British history podcast was being narrated by an American, though that was short lived as I listened to all the podcasts about Alfred then went back to the start and listened to everything. This is a great podcast and I am sorry I had such bad thoughts about Jamie first time out. I am a religious listener now. Not literally, more agnostic/atheist in a literal sense, but religiously listen...you get it, right?

### 5/5 — Real information and great insights

*2020-09-22, version 1.3.3*

I have been an avid listener and subscriber for over a year. The fantastic detail, primary source research, and the ability to make comprehensible very complex trends is Jamie’s gift. If you want context that extends from early Britain into contemporary thought, this is for you!

## Most praised reviews (2 highest-rated)

This is undoubtedly the best British history podcast anywhere, Jamie is brilliant
