Choose from one of the self-guided tours which each explore a theme – from Top Ten to ancient Egypt. Each tour has an audio introduction, providing background information and context, before guiding you around the Museum.

View some of the British Museum’s most popular objects at a glance. Browse pictures of all the objects in the Audio app by culture and theme – and see how the collection is displayed within the galleries – then decide what you want to explore.

Dive deeper
Listen to a diverse selection of commentaries featured in the Audio app. Using the latest research, they provide new insights into the British Museum collection.

The Audio app covers 250 objects in the permanent galleries – when you see the audio guide symbol on cases or next to objects, enter the number using the keypad on the app for audio commentaries and other information.

Horribly organized, which makes it difficult to find the objects you’re looking at. It would be better if it were organized by room rather than world area. It freezes a lot & I had to close and restart the app multiple times. I don’t mind paying for guided audio tours, but this one was not worth it.

We were really looking forward to a live person taking us through the exhibit of Enlightment, but her accented English is impossible to understand!

Map does not have any labels or a legend. Clicking on some of the guides crashes the app

Utterly dreadful. Impossible to find the displays. The sign age within the museum there's no Help at all and the app simply throws you into a map with no reference points at all. A walking path to find the next display would be helpful

Despite their substantial cost, the tours are disappointing. The exhibits are difficult to locate, and the “world history tour" is neither chronological (placing Egypt before Mesopotamia) nor structured around any other discernible common thread. That makes the tours just playlists of some randomly selected exhibits. The British Museum should know better.

Nice to be able to have an audio guide on your own phone rather than carry a clunky museum device around. All major museums should do this. Happy to pay £6 to support such a colossal institution.
In some cases a little more detail would be appreciated, and the museum WiFi definitely needs an upgrade for people who can't download off the mobile network! I could barely get any data (at least in the Egypt area) even when moving around to find a better signal.

It seems that you need to pay to unlock the guide multiple times. There is no information that this is so in the store of guide. I purchased the full unlock at the end of June now the app wants me to repurchase a few months later.

**Developer response:** Hello! Please rest assured that your original in-app purchase does not have an expiry date — you should still have access to the full audio guide content, as long as you’re using the same Apple ID you originally used to make the purchase. 

To restore your in-app purchase for the English Full guide, please go through the following steps: 1. Launch the app. Please make sure the app is set in English 2. On the Welcome page, select "Take a tour". 3. On the Tours page, tap "Menu" in the top right corner. 4. Select "Purchases", then tap "Restore in-app purchases". This page should then list the purchased item and the English audio content should be unlocked.
