## What is BRUT?

HARD GRIDS. HARD SHADOWS. ZERO FLUFF.

Most layout apps force your content into rigid, soft, generic templates. BRUT is different. Inspired by the raw aesthetic of neo-brutalism, BRUT gives you total structural control to split, scale, and frame your media with heavy lines, sharp edges, solid offset shadows, and raw text tags.

Whether you are capturing raw architecture, gritty street photography, or cinematic loops, BRUT frames your content into a statement that demands attention.

FLUID LAYOUTS (NO TEMPLATES)
• Forget standard grids. Split your canvas into 1 to 6 custom blocks and drag the dividers to shape and resize sections exactly how you want. Real-time percentage readouts let you dictate the precise weight and symmetry—or asymmetry—of every single block.
• Save any layout you like and drop new media into it later. Your grids stay yours, ready to reuse.

SEE IT BEFORE YOU POST
• Story Preview drops your finished grid into a mock Instagram story — progress bar, profile row, reply bar and all — with every editing control hidden. Videos keep playing, and a sound button sits in the reply bar so you can hear the clip exactly as it will export. You know precisely what Instagram's own interface covers before you export a single pixel.

FULL MOTION & ANGLE CONTROL
• Pinch, zoom, and free-rotate your media to any angle. Need it straight? Magnetic snap-to-straight with haptic feedback locks your photos and videos back to level effortlessly. Plus, media automatically expands to keep your blocks completely filled with zero ugly gaps.

DESIGN PURIST CONTROLS
• Take command of your exact aesthetic. Fine-tune internal gaps, adjust outer frame thicknesses, control border sizes, add top and bottom margins to clear the Instagram interface, and shift solid shadow offsets with razor-sharp precision sliders. Pick custom shades with an advanced system color picker, eyedropper, or instant brutalist palettes.

RAW TAGS & BADGES
• Put a label on your vision. Slap custom text tags, timestamp labels, or status stickers directly onto any block. Customize text and fill colors live, tweak borders, and let your message speak as loudly as your layout.

100% PRIVATE & LOCAL
• Your high-res media is yours and yours alone. Unlike other apps, BRUT requires no accounts, contains no tracking, and uses no external servers. Everything is processed 100% locally on your device.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.10 — 2026-08-29

Added
• See the whole photo while you move it. Pan, zoom or rotate a photo and the part the block hides appears around it, ghosted, inside a dashed edge — so you can tell how far it's turned and how much is still off-frame.

Changed
• The straighten crosshair is drawn in the same dashed line as the edge around the photo, so it stays visible against your background instead of disappearing into it.

Improved
• Saved grids on the home screen line up along the bottom, so a square or 4:5 grid sits right on its name instead of floating above it. However many formats you've saved, the strip reads as one clean row.

### 2.9 — 2026-08-17

Improved
• The red highlight in the home-screen headline now sits on a hard shadow, like every other block in BRUT.

Fixed
• A tag longer than its block hangs over the edge on the canvas exactly the way it comes out in the export, instead of being cut short with three dots — out to the right on a left tag, to the left on a right one, and out both sides on a centred one.
• Typing a long tag no longer cuts it off with three dots either: the field scrolls along with the cursor, so you can read what you're writing.
• The three size cards on the home screen are the same height again — the Story card's line of text was a touch too long for the row and wrapped onto a second line.

### 2.8 — 2026-08-04

New
• Swipe down to leave the story preview, the way you close a real Instagram story. The close button still works.

Improved
• The size cards on the home screen got depth: the little ratio preview sits on a hard shadow like every other block in BRUT, and the format chip gets a beige one.
• The preview button in the editor is smaller and sits right under the status bar, so it no longer covers the corner of your top block — and it's just as easy to hit.
• Saved grids on the home screen now look exactly like the real thing — your background, frame, tags and the blocks' own shadows in your colour, outlined by the same dashed frame the editor draws and sitting on the hard shadow the rest of the screen has.
• The full saved-grids list is beige like the rest of BRUT instead of black, with hard-shadowed filter tiles, so your grids are the only colour on the page — and every grid shows its format (9:16, 4:5, 1:1) next to its name.
• Once BRUT PRO is yours the card wears a crown instead of a checkmark, so it reads as your plan rather than a ticked-off task — and its tile picked up a shadow like the rest of the screen.

Fixed
• Sliders stay exactly where you let go of them — releasing the handle used to nudge the value a step or two.
• "Share with friends" now links to BRUT on the App Store — it was handing people a different app.
• "Rate BRUT" now brings up the rating prompt; it used to be swallowed as the panel closed.

### 2.7 — 2026-08-04

Improved
• Tidier colour row in Settings: TEXT, BACKGROUND and SHADOW now read at the same size as the section heading, every control in the row sits on one line, and the swap button matches the swatches beside it. The panel also lost a rule that only ate height.

Fixed
• Touching a settings slider's handle no longer nudges the value — grab it and it stays put under your finger. Tapping the bare track still jumps straight to that spot.

### 2.6 — 2026-08-01

New
• Story Preview: tap the eye in the editor and your grid drops into a mock Instagram story — progress bar, profile row and reply bar included, with every editing control out of the way. See exactly how much of your top block Instagram's own UI covers before you export. Videos keep playing, and a sound button in the reply bar lets you hear the clip exactly as it will export.
• Top margin: a Top slider now sits next to Bottom, so you can push the whole grid down from the canvas edge and keep your first block clear of Instagram's own story interface.

Improved
• The settings sliders sit two to a row — Gap and Frame, Border and Shadow, Top and Bottom — so the palettes and colour controls stay on screen instead of being pushed off the bottom.
• The film button for video blocks is now always visible next to the photo button. Without BRUT PRO a tap opens the PRO panel, so it's clear that video blocks exist and what unlocks them.
• Tidier settings panel: the palettes slide in with the panel, Background and Shadow share a single row, and the presets are simply called Palettes.
• The home screen footer now shows which version of BRUT you're running, so it's obvious whether an update has landed.

Fixed
• Video sound in the on-canvas preview now follows the Mute audio toggle, so turning it off plays the clip exactly like the export instead of staying silent.
