No Landscape View?! *2021-06-27, version 1.0.4* Pretty useless as a practice app. Who stands their iPad up in portrait mode to practice guitar? Also, many videos won’t import. I had high hopes. Terrible interface, which basically doesn’t work on an iPhone and only works in portrait on an iPad. Doesn’t work on Macs. Frequently, can’t upload or download files form YouTube, presumably because author blocked them, but not made clear. Basically looks like designed by an intern. That said, this is so close to being brilliant. When it does work, it is so valuable - can import guitar lessons, mark them in relevant places, loop. Fantastic. Of course, can see how can evolve (eg slowing down tracks like amazingslowdowner on audio) but will be patient. So the world’s most frustrating guitar app. With a bare minimum of investment this is a 5* app but, for reasons I can’t fathom given the high price point of the kit, it completely misses the opportunity. ### 1/5 — Useless *2021-05-22* The most buggy and useless ap ever. Videos wont import from youtube as they are supposed to no matter what you do or try. A total waste of money buying what is essentially an expensive headphone amp. Useless ### 2/5 — Back/close button not working *2021-04-04, version 1.0.2* Please do some usability testing! Buttons are behind status bar which makes it unable to tap. ### 2/5 — Unusable on FaceID phones *2021-03-20, version 1.0.2* You can’t tap the back button on a phone with the edge to edge display and the notch. So basically you can’t really edit any of the tones on any of the newer iPhone. Works great on an iPad... Just some simple usability tweaks keep this from 5 stars. The actual pocket gt and stock sounds are great ### 2/5 — Great app accept I can’t use it in Landscape mode *2021-02-07, version 1.0.2* As stated by others, the inability to use it in Landscape mode makes it unusable for me since; 1 - My iPad is always attached to my Magic Keyboard. 2 - My songbook and set list are running at the same time in landscape. Such a shame because I really like the Pocket GT device. Please Mr Developer, please change this. ### 2/5 — Layout katastrophal *2021-02-01* Auf dem iPhone 12 mini nicht zu gebrauchen, da die Buttons zu weit oben sind. Auf dem iPad kein Landscape mode. Außer unter man wechselt nach Session, der erste Titel wird direkt gestartet, und zwar im Vollbild. Who needs a practice tool to learn songs at full speed? My old Boss Micro BR used to let me slow down all the way to 29% but then newer models limited to 50% for some reason. Also lost the ability to get precise rewind and fast-forward, instead limited to ten second increments - why? Now this can’t slow at all? Even free apps can do this. Gerät beim 2x korrektem Ladevorgang abgeschmiert ist, ist jetzt die Implementierung und das Synchronisieren der App ein großes Problem. Ich hatte es als Übungsgerät gekauft um Songs von YouTube zu laden etc. das funktioniert nur bei sehr wenigen - bei den meisten wird die Funktion nicht unterstützt - somit keine Marker möglich etc. Absolut unbrauchbar für meine Zwecke ### 1/5 — Complicado e sem suporte *2022-06-26* Não é possível abrir vídeos do YouTube no aplicativo. ### 1/5 — Broken YouTube Functionality *2022-04-20, version 1.2.0* DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR DOWNLOAD THIS APP IF YOU INTEND TO USE THIS DEVICE AS A YOUTUBE TEACHING AID AS IT IS MARKETED. Can’t download videos from YouTube into the app. Wrong URL error message every time, even for the BOSS produced videos and videos with identified session markers. This makes the unit completely worthless. Tried factory resetting it, updating firmware twice, running on a laptop and iPhone with all current updates. Nothing works and BOSS has no updates on their FAQ page. What a sad waste to such a promising device and a once reliable company. ### 1/5 — Truly awful but, if you can’t return it, read on I’ll give you some tips. *2022-01-21, version 1.2.0* This app is awful. The reason why you buy this pocket amp is to practice along with songs but, I am yet ti find a sing on youtube that is nit protected and that I can play with. Apple music does not work either, it only works with songs you own and, since I pay a monthly subscription instead of buying songs, again, I can’t play along with any song. Is it BOSS’s fault? No, not at all. But they should not use that feature as a strong point in their advertisement since you cannot really use it. I have not found a solution for this. Now, the ads advertise a ton of sounds and amps etc. But when you open the app and try to add patches, you only see 3 options. I did find a way around this. I downloaded BTS for the GT1 on my mac and downloaded the patches they have there. Them I exported them to iCloud. Then opened this stupid app and imported them. It worked. Tons of amps, preamps etc. Hope it helps. ### 1/5 — Delusione *2021-09-01* Bello si, utile si, il tutto fino a quando non scopri che la maggior parte dei video su YouTube hanno restrizioni e non possono essere riprodotti dall’app del dispositivo. Milioni di app sfruttano ampiamente YouTube senza limiti…per me è una grande presa in giro! ### 1/5 — Tone Central is nearly empty *2021-08-13, version 1.0.4* I have the Boss Waza Air headphones and they're great. I bought the Pocket GT because both Tom Quayle and Sweetwater made great videos. I figured I could use this instead of the headphones to record ideas into my iPad. Sweetwater shows all the amazing tone packs available in the Tone Central app. I get the device and NONE of those packs are available. All you get is the default pack, then some generic crap called Rock 1 and Rock 2. I'm still within my return window so I'm sending it back. Shame on Boss for apparently giving Sweetwater some beta with far more available, or whatever they did. I've never been more disappointed in a product. The tones that came stock in this unit sound like old Line 6 stuff. If they can fix this, perhaps I change my mind. Otherwise, forget it. I hope you're reading this before you waste your money on the device. There's no way to contact support on the website and they have ignored all my tweets, so...thanks. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — It’s been updated and works well! *2023-03-14, version 1.3.1* It’s definitely an app, and device, where you have to read the instructions or already be familiar with the way Boss does things. Once you read the manual, it works really well. Connection is solid and very fast. The shuttle controls for Apple Music (what I practice with) will do play, pause, forward and backward tracks. Considering this easy manages a Bluetooth audio receiver and Bluetooth MIDI and streaming integration and a full effects app, I’d say it’s pretty good. ### 5/5 — Has what you need to create great sounds *2022-01-06, version 1.2.0* I am updating my review. For me, the Pocket GT is for creating great headphone amp sounds for practice and on the fly loop creation to creat quick backing tracks for my solo gigs. The app is the perfect tool for this as it gives access to sound editing on a fairly deep level. As far as the YouTube transport control, I am not at all interested as I have been playing for my whole life. If your goal is sound creation with this tool, the app is awesome. ### 5/5 — Works Great *2021-12-18, version 1.2.0* I just received it today. Very impressed. ### 5/5 — Back to a Five *2020-11-17, version 1.0.1* Roland updated their app. It’s up and running like before. ### 5/5 — Works wonderfully *2020-11-06, version 1.0.0a* I haven’t experienced any crashing or functionality issues, and it’s great having a full pedalboard that you can control from your phone. Sounds amazing as well, much better than any practice amp I’ve played. Just to let Roland/ Boss know, there’s a typo on the ‘effect level’ control for od/ds. It says ‘eefect’. ### 4/5 — Almost perfect *2020-09-18, version 1.0.0a* Please add ability to slow down but keep pitch ### 3/5 — Decent, in-depth control but YouTube is still broken *2024-03-14, version 1.3.2* The app works well and gives you intuitive control over all of the Pocket GT features. Landscape mode is missing but can be bodged by using Stage Manager on the iPad. I note the Session feature on the Katana apps works flawlessly but the Pocket GT app still does not playback the majority of videos. This is clearly a software problem and not a YouTube licensing issue. Now that the Katana:Go has been released, can we expect this issue to be resolved for the Pocket GT? ### 3/5 — Great hardware but no landscape mode for the app? In 2021? *2021-06-28, version 1.0.4* First off, if you are reading this for a hardware review, then know the physical hardware and sounds are great. For practice this is pretty perfect compact, portable and amazingly can be used without this app (although tone/fx editing would be impossible). My issue is that to go from YouTube to editing tones you end up having to flip your tablet around, which seems like a minor gripe but it just interrupts my practice flow. Also needs a metronome in app, as for a practice tool it’s an essential. ### 3/5 — Not sure *2021-06-02, version 1.0.4* Whilst you can create some really nice full sounding tones (don’t know why they load 90 terrible tones onto it) the session feature which looks amazing is incredibly restricted. You tube videos mainly come up the author does not permit this video and if you use Apple Music, you can’t access your library. You can play straight through via Bluetooth but the sessions facility is a key reason to buy this device.
