### 2/5 — I paid for it

*2019-07-21, version 4.1.1*

I paid for the extras and now I can't even access them! My son loves the leaves. I think I should still be able to access my paid extras. I'm not very happy right now. I enjoyed buying extra "bubbles" I understand getting rid of them, but I'd still like to access my previous purchases!!

Now, 6 years later, I have a 10 month old again and miss the fun falling items. Balloons, leaves....😫

### 4/5 — Simple but fun

*2018-07-19, version 4.1.1*

My only concern is that I can’t find a way to access settings and the developer page says this app has in-app purchases which makes me nervous if I can’t see how to get to the in-app Store - otherwise is mind numbingly fun.

### 5/5 — Fascinates small children

*2017-11-24, version 4.1.1*

This is the best toy I'm aware of for small kids on the iPhone, and it's free.

So why the medium-low ratings? Let me tell you about the app's history.

It was introduced in 2008 and was a hit with kids from the start. In 2011 the developer, Jesse, got restless and began experimenting with stylized graphics and alternative objects, like balloons, falling leaves, even fireworks. These were optional in-app purchases, and some users opted to buy them.

By 2015 the "feature creep" in this app had become ridiculous, and I assume the proliferating options made it difficult to maintain the app so that all of them performed acceptably. So Jesse returned to basics, completely rewriting the app code, removing everything but the bubbles, and making perfectionist changes to how the bubbles behave on screen. (E.g., they are sensitive to how you tilt your phone, and if you rotate your device 180 degrees they will slow down dramatically to facilitate "drawing with bubbles").

Now, some users who had made in-app purchases felt, as one of them phrased it, "pissy" about the loss of their balloons, leaves, or fireworks, so they barraged this app with one-star reviews. If your child loved to pop balloons rather than bubbles, and suddenly the balloons were gone, I can understand a passing feeling of pique. Still, the level of outrage seems out of proportion to their losses, which amounted to around $5 at most. That seems like a fair price for an engaging toy. But that's a peculiarity of the iOS app market: For some reason buyers expect to get perpetual access to well built, consistently maintained apps, and to pay about 99 cents or less for the privilege.

Meanwhile, I'm now using this app to entertain a second crop of toddlers in my extended family. It looks and runs better than ever. And it's free.

### 5/5 — Simple and cute

*2017-07-29, version 4.1.1*

I think my 1 year old will love this

### 5/5 — Bubble fun

*2017-03-21, version 4.1.1*

My grand daughter(4mths) loves creating bubbles with her hands, well worth $.99!

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2016-12-28, version 4.1.1*

I agree with everyone else - I got this for the kids and had purchased the extras. My kids miss the others and won't play with it now that it's just bubbles. Don't take things away. Perhaps they did it so they could stop updating it :-/ Deleting this app!

### 5/5 — Great fun

*2016-10-07, version 4.1.1*

I played this game from when I was an infant when the iPhone came out and I have loved ever since it is relaxing, and when I babysit the kids love it. If you give this one star then think about if you are giving this a fair score, like if you are 20 and thought this was going to challenge you intellectually. Great idea, I would call this a game for 8 and under and an activity for 9+. 100 stars from me.

### 5/5 — Still awesome

*2016-09-18, version 4.1.1*

Kids I know have loved this since I owned the first iPhone. Still a great entertaining app for toddlers.

### 2/5 — Lost my in app purchases

*2015-11-05, version 4.1.1*

I paid for several in-app purchases and like the last reviewer, this option has disappeared after the last update so only have bubbles again. Please fix, my child wants fireworks back and I feel cheated out of my money!

### 1/5 — In-App Purchases Gone

*2015-10-04, version 4.1.1*

This update really burst our... bubble

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — upset @ creator

*2016-12-31, version 4.1.1*

so the most recent update (i realize this was quite a while ago now but am still pissy) took away all of the game options because creator wanted a simpler app. right, okay, but i paid $$ cash money to buy the game as well as several in-app purchases, and no refunds or restores were given out as a result of creator wanting a simpler game. i spent money to be able to have things other than bubbles. either put them back or give me my money back.

### 1/5 — Where are the in app purchases?

*2016-06-03, version 4.1.1*

I hope there is a refund for all of the in app purchases that we paid for!

### 1/5 — Where are my in app purchases?!

*2016-03-24*

This was by far my kid's favorite app with all of the different items we purchased for popping...now all of my purchases are gone and it's just super lame bubbles. I spent a lot of money on those add ins and they just disappeared with this update. Please bring back the other one or refund my money so I can invest in a better app :-/ super disappointed.

### 1/5 — Ripped off

*2016-01-01, version 4.1.1*

I spent at least ten bucks on in-app purchases for my grandchildren. Not happy!

### 1/5 — Refund the money

*2015-12-26, version 4.1.1*

They took (a considerable amount of) money for an option and then removed that option. Serious financial trust issues with this company.

### 1/5 — Bring In-App Purchases Back!

*2015-12-03, version 4.1.1*

Loved the app until the recent update. My three year old is extremely disappointed that he can no longer play the other bubble types.

I recommend either bringing the in-app purchases back or refund those of us who spent money.

### 1/5 — Give me my money back

*2015-11-24, version 4.1.1*

Just opened this app to get it ready for my niece this holiday season and I can't access any of my upgraded screens. I want my upgrades back you thief! How in the world do you think it is ok to upgrade without allowing for previous in-app purchases? Better to stop updating the app! Scum!

### 1/5 — Ripped off

*2015-11-18, version 4.1.1*

Feeling ripped off after purchasing many in app options!! Now none are available & no money refunded. Kids are disappointed in new version.

### 1/5 — Does not work on iOS9

*2015-11-09, version 4.1.1*

I had downloaded / purchased multiple options- balloons / fireworks etc. But on iOS, I am unable to switch between these options

### 1/5 — Money back

*2015-10-05, version 4.1.1*

Hey I want my money back from my purchases that are no longer available. Or simply put them back.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — One of my first apps

*2026-03-14, version 4.2*

This is still as wonderful as it was when I first experienced and now my children get to be just as amazed as I was eighteen years later.

### 5/5 — Still a hit with toddlers

*2025-08-03, version 4.2*

Had this app since it came out, about 15 years. It’s never left my phone. Useful for kids from about ages 1 to 3 to amuse themselves.

### 5/5 — 😍💯

*2024-09-28, version 4.2*

”Good job!”👍🏻

### 5/5 — Gentle simple amusement.

*2024-09-24, version 4.2*

I have used this on several occasions to keep very little kids occupied. Only problem is when you get your phone back your screen will need a very good clean. 🙃

### 5/5 — Great classic app

*2024-03-16, version 4.2*

Very sorry to see the negative reviews with in app purchases (seems like handled poorly) BUT I did want to say, this app is magical. One of the very first apps I ever installed and taught me the “feel” of touch screen. It’s a sweet, simple app. Really a work of genius. I love it, and always will. Please keep it going forever.

### 5/5 — Best bubbles app ever made

*2024-03-06, version 4.2*

I’m glad this is still around, but for some reason it’s hard to find it on the App Store. It seems to have gotten updated recently to keep working. Glad I have it since 2009 and the negative reviews are probably not from the target audience. lol

### 5/5 — So awesome

*2023-01-13, version 4.2*

I love this game so calm and relaxing

### 5/5 — Great game

*2019-04-03, version 4.1.1*

This game has been great for 2 of y kids and the first thing I let them do on any electronic I wis they would make it a screen saver and an update as gesture control needs to be off for kids to use it’s I would love to see options like that added and a Pw to close the app as it is great for kids but I really don’t want a 2 year old using anything else on my iPad or less occasional phone

### 5/5 — Good app

*2018-05-23, version 4.1.1*

Very entertaining, nice bubbles. It can make a good audio/visual stim.

### 5/5 — Great for toddlers

*2018-02-16, version 4.1.1*

My nephew loves this app and it’s a great distraction when he gets frustrated. Also very meditative for adults. I’ve had some parents and grandparents play with their toddlers and they continue after the toddler moves on.
