Edit to my original review - I was locked out of some of the app when the new update rolled out. This was upsetting because I’d paid already. The developer was prompt and friendly and went above and beyond to assist. 

I’ve been using Budgey since the beginning of 2025 - after much trial and error with various apps. It’s been the most straightforward app that I’ve tried while also meeting all my budget tracking needs.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I want to sincerely apologize for the experience you had. A recent update unfortunately introduced a bug that mistakenly locked out our earliest supporters who purchased the one-time paid version of Budgey from accessing their categories and budgets. This was never our intention, and I completely understand how frustrating it must have been to suddenly feel like features you had already paid for were being taken away.

We’ve released a fix so that original paid users will continue to have access to the budgeting features you purchased. If you’re still seeing issues, please try restarting the app. And if the problem continues, reach out to us at support@budgeyapp.com and we’ll make sure your account is restored immediately, with full access.

I was attracted to budgey for the one time payment, the availability of lots of budget categories, and many other features. Suddenly, I open my app and they have removed features from my version. Now, instead of a one time 9.99 payment I’d have to pay that much each month to be able to continue using the app as I have. I went from being able to have at least 25 categories (I think it was actually unlimited) to now only being able to have 5 unless I pay a subscription fee. For them to remove features from people who have paid for their app, all so they can now charge monthly for those same features is so disappointing. I will no longer be using this app.

EDIT:  the founder reached out and fixed this! There was a bug that resulted in this problem but they made it right and restored my access to my data. Grateful for the support and now I will be happily back to using this helpful budgeting app!

Don’t waste your money! I bought this app for $9.99 for lifetime access to the basic budgeting features. Then, one month later, they change to a subscription model where they now want to charge me $10 more each month just to access the budget that I already made! I can’t access my own data now without paying more— a bait and switch tactic. Essentially they revoked the service I had already bought.

A bug in our recent update mistakenly locked basic budgeting features for customers who previously purchased the one-time (lifetime) version. We’ve just released a fix. Please update to the latest version and fully restart the app, and your existing budget/data will be accessible again.

This is a classic bait and switch and I’m very disappointed. We looked at a lot of budget app options and chose Budgey because of the single lifetime purchase cost, and then set up all our categories in our shared family budget. Now we’re having to pay $100 per person per year just to access our own data. I’m extremely upset and will absolutely be canceling my account once I figure out how to get my data back

I honestly didn’t think budgeting could be this fun! The theming of this app alone makes me want to open it every day. The little panda “mascot” is adorable, and I love that I can switch up the themes (the cottage core one is my favorite.

Budgey works like a digital envelope + zero-based budgeting system, which makes tracking super intuitive. It’s been rolling out updates pretty often, and honestly, it’s exciting to see the app keep improving.

The biggest win for me though? It’s made me way more mindful of where my money goes. I’m already feeling more confident about tackling my debt faster thanks to Budgey. Highly recommend if you want a budget app that’s actually motivating and fun to use.
