### 2/5 — This App Wouldn’t Hurt a Fly

*2023-09-10, version 1.0.9*

Took three snaps of a common housefly. Came back as a beetle, a hornet and a cricket. Big fail.

### 4/5 — Bugs for me

*2023-08-23, version 1.0.8*

It’s interesting to discover what others like me all over the country are discovering in the insect world. Although insects aren’t the only creatures discovered here, the bugs are what I’m here for. I’m not absolutely crazy about the Wikipedia photos that are posted (I like personal photos) it is still a fun, interesting and educational app. I haven’t even upgraded to premium and I still enjoy it. Happy hunting! (With your camera of course)

### 4/5 — Very good app!

*2022-10-20, version 1.0.5*

👍🏼 Very good app!

### 2/5 — Cat

*2022-08-19, version 1.0.3*

I can’t get to the community to interact with everyone and there are no directions to show you how 🤷🏻‍♀️

### 2/5 — One review said it doesn’t push purchases

*2022-06-10, version 1.0.1*

The first thing the app does is ask for a weekly, monthly or annual subscription, so it’s not free

### 3/5 — Worked, but premium is pricey

*2022-01-18, version 1.0.1*

Downloaded the app just to determine what type of moth I saw today. The AI guessed it correctly to my surprise, but I can’t recommend getting the premium version for $4/wk or $40/yr unless you do this professionally

### 3/5 — Gets it right half the time

*2021-09-07, version 1.0.1*

Not a bad app, but then again not the greatest. Would be good if they gave you the common name of the species instead of Latin terms. Also the picture taken has to be clear as heck which is hard to do when the insect is moving.

### 1/5 — Not june 14th

*2021-07-17, version 1.0.1*

As you’ll notice if you look, all the 5 star reviews with no criticism, at least before this one were written on June 14th and I’m pretty sure they’re fake. One of them says the best thing about it is that it doesn’t push subscriptions or in app purchases, which it does.

Now I’ll actually talk about the app itself. The moment you start it brings up a page making it look like you have to get a payed subscription to continue. If you scroll down offscreen it gives you the option not to. It gives you the option to submit an image from your library or take a photo from a camera it gives you the option to swap to, which for me, only worked in portrait and didn’t take photos when I pressed the button.
I just took a picture with the iPads normal camera and submitted it, which it scanned. It made it look like I had to upgrade to premium to continue again, but If you scrolled down it would continue. It showed a picture of a different insect with no other information and asked if it was right or not. Maybe if I said yes it would have given a name but I doubt it.

### 1/5 — RIPOFF

*2021-06-22, version 1.0*

This app is worthless. I would give it zero stars

### 5/5 — Great!

*2021-06-14, version 1.0*

I love using this app. I don’t usually write reviews, but I’m constantly pulling out my phone to identify species with this app. Rather than being technology that distracts you from the world around you, this app informs you of the world around you.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Only app that worked!

*2025-10-24, version 1.1.2*

I had a specimen of a cathedra serrata which was incredibly difficult to identify and needed to do so for studies. All the other bug identifier apps were completely wrong and tried to charge money. This app found it on its first try I was very impressed

### 5/5 — Bugs

*2021-09-15, version 1.0.1*

This app has really helped me. I suffer with a form of ocd called parisitosis. It causes me to obsessively worry about insect infestations In the home and even on and inside my body. This app has helped me in the sense of it’s helped me to realise on multiple occasions that it’s nit all just in my head.
(Pun intended)
Defo 5 star rating.

### 5/5 — Cottonwood Betel

*2021-08-24, version 1.0.1*

Found on porch in West Ky first time have seen this creature.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2021-06-14, version 1.0*

This is a great app, it’s fun to use even if I’m just out in my yard. The only issue I’ve had is that it thinks my standard poodle is either a sheep or an alpaca!

### 5/5 — Great

*2021-06-14, version 1.0*

The most underrated part about this app is that it doesn’t push in app purchases or subscriptions.

### 5/5 — Excellent app

*2021-06-14, version 1.0*

Bug identifier is really very good app. It works very accurately. Insect identification has become very easy now. What a great app!
