Finally, a developer who gets it! *2025-02-27, version 2.11.16* As stated in the title, I am so tired of everything asking for a subscription. I want a program that I can pay for once and that does the job I need it to. ALSO, no data is collected from you. That’s super important to me. I needed something for converting units and adding odd dimensions quickly. This does the trick perfectly. I’ve yet to fiddle with other features, but I’m happy thus far. I’ve been a professional carpenter for 34 years now and mainly build high end decks. As others have said, the stair function is amazing. What I’ve been most grateful throughout the years though is the baluster function. One of the best tools I’ve ever purchased to say the least. A sincere thank you to the developer from an aging and increasingly aching carpenter. I’m in the pipe trades and now work for myself welding and fabrication. I use this app all day and every day and it has not let me down once. This app has paid for itself 10fold. And when I could not figure something out I emailed the creator and they where very prompt and helpful. After talking with them I found that all I had to do was read a little bit and would not even had to reach out in the first place.the app is very well built with very good instructions. I always get asked what app is that. And my response it’s the only one you will ever need. If you are in the building trades save yourself some headaches, it’s a win win. ### 5/5 — Better than CM Pro! *2024-01-24, version 2.11.15* Switched to iOS and can no longer use the other companies calculator without paying a subscription. I will not pay for greed, however I will pay for a great product. And this blows the other company out of the water. They kept the same great layout but added the most tasteful features. My favorite is long press for info on that function. Great! No more going through the menu to figure out how to do an irregular calculation! Buy it now! You won’t regret it. I use this more than any other calculator app. After reading reviews it seems like it’s one dude running the show. Even more impressive. Good job bro. This app blows the other construction calc. out of the water. One thing to be careful about is the app doesn’t have a refresh button. It did cost me $50 on a stringer I was cutting. Built exactly to the plans it generated, but they were off. Discovered it when i went to hang the first one. If you work in the building trades this is a must have app. The others are just playing catch-up. The stair layout function alone is worth more than the price of admission. When it comes to calculators Buildcalc is all you need. My guys use this because it saves time and that saves me money. Enter rise, run and tells you diagonal length. Big shame because this is a great construction calculator. ### 1/5 — Couldn’t even calculate simple shed rafter *2018-09-19, version 2.4.8* App crashed on me several times trying to figure out how to calculate a simple shed rafter with birds mouth. Docs online say they contain tutorial, it doesn’t and there are no well indexed instructions. It may be useful for some things but I feel completely ripped off for the high price and will be seeking a refund. Footing calculations are far from clear. You need to spend lots of time figuring it out. Good luck remembering how it works next time. I have nothing say but praise. It’s rare that an app has no BS and is just exactly what you want. The software and app performs as it should but the advanced features is what sets this product apart. It’s difficult to put into words as there are too many to list. If I’m performing a calculation that I haven’t completed in a long time or if it’s a new calculation I’ve never attempted the app/software has a function that allows you to hold down any desired key and it will open a background to explain the function and its uses. When this doesn’t work I have reached out on a few occasions and I was always answered promptly with a solution to my problem. I recently found a bug (as all apps have) and the owner reached out for a meeting in which we shared screens and attempted to replicate the problem. This shows the amount of buy-in the company has in their product and customer service as well as their desire to continue to be THE platform for job site calculations. ### 5/5 — Construction Foreman *2026-01-16, version 2.12.0* I work in the film and movie industry and have been using Build Calc for over 13 years. Some your favorite movies like Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vennom, Black Panther and many many more have benefited from the use of this app. I have made several recommendations to the developers for improvements and additions and they add them. Hands down, you want professional results, use the apps that the Pros use. ### 5/5 — 110% Worth the purchase *2025-12-27, version 2.12.0* I purchased build calc several years ago, it is something I feel every Carpenter should have in their pocket. I love the blueprint features it offers. It makes clear prints to send easy. Also. I originally purchased this on my Samsung, and transferred to iPhone over the holidays. I sent an email with my recipes to Ben, an within 5 mins I was sent back a code.
