## What is Bulletlist?

Bulletlist is an outliner. One list, nested as deep as your thinking goes, and
nothing else in the way.

Every line is a bullet. Press Return for the next one, Tab to move it under the
one above, and keep going. Zoom into any bullet to make it the whole screen, then
walk back out through the trail at the top — so a long outline is read a room at a
time instead of all at once.

Built for keyboards
Bulletlist takes the shortcuts you already know from the outliners you have used
before, without inventing new ones. Move a bullet with Shift-Command-Up. Complete
it with Command-Return. Jump to any bullet by name with Command-K. Press
Command-/ for the whole list, in the app, grouped by what it applies to.

Built for thumbs too
Swipe a row to indent it. Long-press to pick it up and drop it anywhere, at any
level. The editing bar rides the top of the keyboard instead of hiding under it,
and the back gesture goes back through the bullets you zoomed into.

Yours, and readable without us
Your outline lives in your own storage under your own account. Google Analytics
measures how the app is used — screens opened, and counts of bullets added,
completed and moved — and never receives a bullet, a note or a search. There is
no advertising identifier, nothing sold, and no third party watching you type.
Export the whole thing as an OPML file whenever you like, and it opens in any
outliner.

Works offline
The app is on your device, not in a browser tab. Write on a plane and it syncs
when you land. Edits made on two devices are merged rather than one overwriting
the other.

Nine colour schemes
Light and dark are separate from which colours those two words mean. Paper is
ours; the other eight are Solarized, Gruvbox, Everforest, Stone, Dracula,
Catppuccin, Nord and GitHub, each with both of its halves, for people who already
know which one they want.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.2 — 2026-08-29

Syncing no longer moves the caret. Opening the app, putting the caret in a bullet and waiting for the first sync used to throw it somewhere else — to the front of the line you were reading, out of a comment and into the bullet's title, or out of a zoomed page's title and into a child bullet, with the view scrolling after it. A merge now folds in behind you and leaves the caret exactly where you put it. The only time it moves at all is when the words under it were the ones another device rewrote, and then it lands on the same character it was on.

Merges are also much cheaper. A bullet arriving from another device used to redraw every row on the page to find out which one had changed; it now redraws the one that did.

On a page with nothing on it yet, "Tap here to start." sits under the title where the first bullet is about to go, instead of below the page's summary and the offers to turn it into a document or a sheet.

Tapping the bar's buttons no longer leaves them lit. Pressing the home button used to go home and leave the button looking like a switch somebody had turned on, with no way to turn it off.

Tapping a bullet flashes a circle rather than an oval.

And the app's mark is a bullet again, at the proportions the outline actually draws one: the icon, the launch screen and the two marks inside the app had drifted to a fatter dot than any bullet in your outline. They are one drawing now, at every size.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-08-28

Nine well-known ways of keeping notes now ship with the app, so a new outline does not have to start as a blank page: Zettelkasten, PARA, Getting Things Done, the bullet journal, Cornell notes, the Feynman technique, the Eisenhower matrix, a weekly review, and the second-brain CODE steps. Open the ⋯ menu and choose “Start from a template…”. Whichever you pick is added to the page you are looking at as one branch — nothing already there is touched, and undo takes the whole thing back.

Shift-Up and Shift-Down now do what they do in every other editor first: select the text you have just typed. Only once the caret has run out of text does the gesture become an outline one — the whole bullet, and then the bullets around it. Until now the ordinary reading of the key was not available anywhere in the app.

Backspace on a single picked bullet deletes it as a bullet, with everything under it, instead of taking one character out of the row it had just told you was selected.

Rows no longer animate into place. Moving, indenting and completing a bullet used to glide the list into its new shape, which meant measuring every row on screen at the moment you were least interested in watching it. The list simply arrives where it belongs now, and the app is quicker around typing for it.

This version also adds usage measurement to the app itself, which until now was on the website only. It records screens opened and counts of bullets — never a bullet, a note or a search query. The privacy policy says exactly what is collected and what is not.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-26

Leaving the demo now asks which door you want. Create a new account and this outline comes with you — it becomes your new account's, and syncs to every device you sign in on — or sign in to an account you already have. If the address you type turns out to have an account already, the sheet says so before any code is sent, rather than letting you find out afterwards.

A pasted link is a link straight away. It used to stay grey until some later edit came along — in practice typing a space after it, or pressing Return.

The account menu shows your own initial from the moment the app opens, including the launch that paints your outline from this device's own storage before it checks anything with the server.

Smoother zooming in and out, and drag-and-drop that lands a row where you aimed it.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-20

Sheets. Turn any bullet into a small spreadsheet — type a table, or paste one straight out of Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets. Formulas like =SUM(B2:B5) are recalculated on every device, so there is nothing stale to sync, and the arrows, Tab and Return move around the grid the way you expect. It is on out of the box and can be switched off under Settings → Experiments.

Copying or duplicating a bullet now carries a sheet's contents with it.

On phones: the action menu no longer stays stuck beside a zoomed title after you tap it, pinch and double-tap zoom stay out of the way while you write, and the shortcut hints only name keys your device can actually press.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-08-19
