That said, it also feels like a product that has focused more on serving a specific audience than on building out the overall app experience. Many of the quality-of-life features you’d expect from a mature app are missing. For example, you can’t save email drafts, filter messages by person, or take advantage of other basic productivity features that have become standard elsewhere. ### 2/5 — VERY hard to use- dysfunctional *2026-07-15, version 5.2.0* I’ve struggled with this app for years, and it never improves. Very difficult to use, the website isn’t better. Since this is not cheap to send notes to our kids at camp, I would expect it to be more user friendly. ### 3/5 — Losing messages! *2026-07-10* I can’t tell you how frustrating it is that this app doesn’t do a drafts folder. I wrote a whole note to my kiddo, went to attach a photo, selected only limited access to photos, the app crashed and I lost everything. Another time, I was writing a note and got a phone call I had to answer went back to the app, it refreshed and I lost another message. It’s 2026. Why don’t we have drafts and autosave?? ### 4/5 — Excellent way to have fun, regular contact at Camp *2026-07-09* Four stars for the seamless app for the peace of mind that my Bunk notes arrive to my kids each day. Much easier and more reliable than the post office – – and I love the colored borders and photo upload. Minus a star that they seem to raise prices every year and not have bulk sales for more than one camper in session. I also wish there was a way to better show the layout. I have to keep guessing how much space I have on my note when I have a border and a photo. The vertical photo takes up more space than the horizontal photo. The red -line count showing you’ve run out of X # of lines when the message gets too long, does not work when you post a vertical photo and suddenly you have to guess how many lines of your message to remove. I wish the line count or the letter preview was more dynamic. ### 2/5 — So buggy *2025-08-08* This app is so frustratingly buggy. Practically every time I do anything I have to restart the app to get it to work. Sometimes the photo albums are blank, sometimes the photos are blank when you swipe through them and you have to tap the “share” icon to get them to appear (then close the share dialog that opened when you did it), sometimes you can’t get back to the main album screen at all, the back button just flops between the welcome screen and the album you clicked into. needs lots of debugging. ### 3/5 — Wonderful way to keep in touch and see what’s going on, but a lot of bug *2025-07-30* I love being able to see pictures of my children every day, and send and receive letters easily. That part is absolutely fantastic. However, I keep getting random alerts about photos that were posted days ago. The notes are easy to navigate, write, and send. The photo recognition technology has been spot on, allowing us to stay current with his experiences. I’m on my second year using the app, and I’ll use it again next year, too. ### 3/5 — It’s okay, some suggestions! *2025-07-15* Not particularly intuitive and photos hard to maximize. Glitchy. User experience for parents could be smoother and less confusing/clunky, for sure. Photo recognition is on point. Suggestions: provide an option for parents to upload scans of handwritten letters. Make it easier to view things like photos and the bunk reply templates. If a parent has issues with a scan, make it easier to resolve vs directing people to contact the camp (feels disjointed). Had to delete and upload multiple times, change my password multiple times. Won’t let me log in. Nothing but issues. And, the costs went up from last year! The app was fine but the cabin names weren’t what was reported to friends/family of campers. I had been in contact through email with customer support and after asking for a refund they ghosted me. I was able to get ahold of someone on the phone and they said they would put in a request for the refund but wasn’t sure if it would be approved. I was never able to send a message to the campers in my family. I would avoid this app at all costs. ### 1/5 — Space Camp *2026-06-13, version 5.0.9* Second year in a row my child has been to space camp and second year in a row something has been wrong with linking my son with the correct expedition/week. It is incredibly frustrating. I wish they would use a different platform. ### 1/5 — Garbage *2025-08-19, version 5.0.9* 9 times out of 10 I can’t view any of the albums that the camp has posted despite getting a notification that should open the album. The gallery doesn’t work most of the time. You have to buy credits to send a message to your camper and the minimum you can buy is ten credits. Not just a rip off but is ethically not cool. Kids should have equitable access to communication from loved ones ### 1/5 — What a rip-off! *2025-08-15* The app promises a lot of features that don’t actually work. Maybe my daughters’ camp just doesn’t use those features. I don’t know. All I know is that I spent $30 to send my daughters 6 messages. Maybe a 7th will get through. Again, I don’t know. I was never informed of a cut-off for sending messages but when I tried to send one at 7:03am a message popped up that Bunk1 messaging ended at 7am today even though my daughters’ camp continues until tomorrow at noon. I’m annoyed because I still had a dozen credits left. My Bunk1 also had no newsletters and no pictures were ever posted. The promise of pictures and updates were the whole reason I signed up. And the preview material makes it sound like campers will be able to write you back but that was not really an option either for my campers. Overall a frustrating experience - the app took entirely too long to download and had an exorbitant cost for the amount of communication actually facilitated. ### 1/5 — Terrible *2025-08-01, version 5.0.9* Haven’t been able to access photos of my camper most of the week. I also love how easy it is to print out the photos from the hearted library. Its accesible to use for all ages and even my parents can enjoy looking at photos of their grandchildren! ### 5/5 — Love hearing from my camper 💜 *2026-07-15, version 5.2.0* At first glance, the app is a bit glitchy and not the most user-friendly, HOWEVER the customer service is outstanding! They will help you in any way they can, and are so calm and polite. Very professional. The kids are tech-free, and land-line calls are quite scarce, so I love being able to “mail” letters to my camper and get hand-written “bunk replies”. I really enjoy getting all the photos from camp with tagged pics especially of my child; I can also send a picture from home — even with the basic package!
