縦書きでの画像読み取り結果で、行が乱れる事が多々有るようになってしまった。

国立国会図書館に眠る、昭和初期の黄ばんだ古書たち。これをテキスト化して手元のKindleで読むのが私の何よりの楽しみで、その中心にあるのがこの「BunkoOCR」です。

特に手強く、そして多くのことを教えてくれたのが、山手樹一郎先生の一部の作品でした。活字のかすれや微妙なページの傾きがひどく、当初はBunkoOCRのパラメータ調整だけで格闘し、途方に暮れかけていました。

しかし、試行錯誤の末に「OCRにかける前の画像の前処理こそが鍵だ」という発見に至ります。ページの傾きを直し、歴史を感じる黄ばみを丁寧にクリーンにしてからBunkoOCRに通すと、まるで魔法のように、驚くほど正確に文字を読み取ってくれたのです。あれほど苦労したのが嘘のようでした。

この発見以来、どんなに癖のある書籍でも「この本は無理かもしれない」と諦める必要がなくなりました。BunkoOCRが備える豊富なパラメータ設定でとことん調整できる懐の深さと、開発者様の頻繁なアップデートが、いつも背中を押してくれます。

あの山手樹一郎先生の難解だったページが、今ではKindleの中でスムーズに読める。この小さな感動を与えてくれるBunkoOCRは、私の読書の世界を無限に広げてくれる、かけがえのない相棒です。
