### 3/5 — Paywall for Tests

*2026-08-25, version 3.20.0*

Although the app is very good with teaching and the lessons I am learning in Japanese are actually sticking for the first time because of this app, having to pay for the video call in the line instead of getting one free one every now and then gives me less of an incentive to continuously move forward but I can live without that part its just frustrating that the summary of the chapter lesson is also something that is needed to be paid for which I think is a little silly but overall I enjoy the app.

### 3/5 — Fun and helpful but… $$

*2026-08-18, version 3.20.0*

It seems like most of the features I’ve heard about and was excited to use cost money or the platinum subscription. I really wanted to video call to improve my Korean because I’ve seen people online do it and i was excited to try it out, however i was disappointed when i learned this app is more of a “pay to win” type of app. I wish we could learn languages for free, but obviously not in this economy.

### 5/5 — Nj

*2026-08-15, version 3.20.0*

Very good my family and friend recommend people who want to learn Korea quicker!!👍👍

### 2/5 — Lesson Paywall

*2026-08-09, version 3.20.0*

It’s a great app! Really enjoyed the few free Hiragana lessons but the paywall is annoying. I would happily pay for the mythical Plus/Plus Lifetime ($39) but the Platinum ($79) option is the only one that i can find anywhere and I’m not interested in the AI features. I don’t know if this is an iOS thing (recommended this app to a friend before i realized the lessons weren’t all free, she has an Android and was able to buy Plus Lifetime) but it’s very disappointing because I was really enjoying using it.

### 5/5 — Add Filipinoooo

*2026-08-03, version 3.18.0*

could you guys add any Filipino languages, Tagalog or cebuano? Unless you guys are already working on that? I’m just curious, I think it’d be really cool

### 5/5 — Download this instead of Duolingo.

*2026-08-01, version 3.18.0*

So I love Duolingo but the fact that i keep on running put of energy makes me mad. It keeps wanting me to bye premium but the pop ups are soooooo annoying. So I recommend this app or Lingo Land. Its kind like prodigy but language.

### 4/5 — Wasn’t sold at first but now it’s useful

*2026-07-28, version 3.18.0*

This app works best as a supplement for using a textbook - I downloaded at the start of the year and was struggling to learn from the N4 lessons due to not having much kanji knowledge. Now I’ve finished the Genki II textbook and been using wanikani, this app is useful for reviewing grammar and practising with the questions! I like the layout, think more questions could be added, and maybe for lower levels (N5-N3) for some furigana to be included in answer options.

### 2/5 — Es bueno

*2026-07-28, version 3.18.0*

### 5/5 — Belajar bahasa Jepang

*2026-07-27, version 3.18.0*

Sangat rekomendasi untuk pemula belajar bahasa Jepang sangat detail penjelasannya mudah dipahami pula terimakasih

### 5/5 — A language learning Toolbox must have

*2026-07-27, version 3.18.0*

I’ve been through a lot of language apps, even the high end expensive ones but the main thing many language apps lack is ease of use. With Bunpo I feel no pressure, I’m not paying hundreds of dollars annually and I’m progressing swiftly through this style of instruction. I had some knowledge of the language beforehand but still the “no pressure” approach is really doing it for me. Keep it up Bunpo! Thanks🤘

### 5/5 — exceptional!

*2026-07-25, version 3.18.0*

bunpo is really good for learning all kinds of languages and for korean it does skip batchim i 10/10 totally recommend

**Developer response:** 🤍

### 2/5 — Pay wall

*2026-07-25, version 3.18.0*

Idk this is kinda whiny but after completing a few lessons, I couldn’t do the checkpoint. I’m not sure if this is because of my phone, or you just need to pay to do basic lessons (as promised) in the app.

I’m sure it’s good if you have $150 to spare

### 5/5 — BEST

*2026-07-24, version 3.18.0*

### 1/5 — Scammers

*2026-08-09, version 3.20.0*

Do not let you cancel your subscription, takes weeks to respond via email and only offer for you to check the FAQ which states go to your Apple Store subscriptions to cancel there, however Bunpo is not there nor has it been for the past three months and yet they are still charging me

### 1/5 — Не работает

*2026-07-31, version 3.18.0*

Ваше приложение не работает. Уже второй раз скачиваю, и про ответа на 5 первичных вопросов или при попытке регистрации просто бесконечная загрузка

### 1/5 — Vocabulary problems

*2026-07-28, version 3.18.0*

The vocabulary usage in this app is just the worst ever. You can’t check words translations when learning something in this app. Encountered an unknown word in the learning materials? Unlucky for you. You can’t even understand the meaning of the sentence in the first place, to think of an answer the app wants from you

### 1/5 — Paywalls and weird formatting.

*2026-07-27, version 3.18.0*

I’ve been getting back into the grind of learning Japanese, so I decided to try this app. The first two courses were great, they were easy to understand, and if I made mistakes I could get an explanation on where I went wrong. However, the explanation feature suddenly got paywalled after a few courses. There was also a point where I was stuck on a lesson not because I got the material wrong, because I was formatting it incorrectly. I had to spend nearly 20 minutes just to figure out where I went wrong with my formatting because the explanation was paywalled and you have to pay $20 (USD) to have access to the explanation feature. That is a lot of money for me, and I wish more language learning apps would make learning more accessible for people who don’t have money to throw at a monthly subscription. After just five lessons, you’re suddenly blocked from the sixth lesson without a subscription, you can skip that lesson, but you can’t do the 7th lesson which is a test that’s required to continue.

The app was also inaccessible to those who need larger screens. It was not adjusted so the keyboard was covering text that was important to read. (You cannot simply slide down the keyboard to read and then re-enable it. It senses any kind of tap or slide as an answer so you would be accidentally submitting something without answering it.) I personally do not have a huge vision impairment, I use the larger screen feature so that I don’t fat finger my keys. However, I’d imagine this sucks for people who DO need that built-in feature to make their phones more accessible.

Now that I mentioned that I would like to Segway onto the fact that there’s a bug that makes your keyboard stuck, and you cannot simply just slide down because it thinks you’re submitting your answer rather than adjusting your keyboard.

### 1/5 — Paywall when skipping to a chapter

*2026-07-23, version 3.18.0*

Can’t even try the app properly, you can only try it from scratch on hiragana

### 1/5 — Man kann sie irgnedwie nicht LÖSCHEN

*2026-07-21*

### 1/5 — THE WORST UPDATE

*2026-07-21, version 3.18.0*

after update i suddenly need to pay for plus to redo lesson what the heck is this

### 1/5 — Greed

*2026-07-15, version 3.18.0*

Free version gives you a fraction of the things that are actually available. Like 1/5 of the chapters of the Japanese alphabet hiragana. Everything after that you have to pay for. Basically the free version is to take a glimpse of how the app works, but other than that 100% unhelpful. Keep your app I keep my money

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-08-31, version 3.22.0*

My favourite part about it is that not only do they teach you they also quiz you about it like a million times so you don’t forget it ✨✨✨

### 5/5 — This is a good language app!

### 5/5 — It’s so peak

*2026-08-26, version 3.20.0*

I just got it today I learned how to pronounce and write words but I wish talking with Niki was free😖

### 5/5 — I’m Confused

*2026-08-26, version 3.20.0*

Okay, Imma be honest, this is a great app; it’s well polished and it appears to be very designed, HOWEVER—I’m using the free version and couldn’t do anything past the Kana lessons, no speaking, no tests, no writing, nothing—just Hiragana kana review that’s it. Everything is locked behind a paywall; please correct me if I’m mistaken or if I’m missing something.

### 5/5 — Handy for studying

*2026-08-25, version 3.20.0*

It’s nice to use this app for quick studying and learning N2 level grammar points by finishing sentences and hearing how it’s used.
