## What is Burntimes?

Burntime is an offline UV planning companion for iPhone and iPad. Enter the UV index from your weather source, choose your sunscreen SPF, skin type, exposed skin area, and protection choices, and Burntime turns them into a practical planning window, countdown, reapply schedule, and sun-dose log.

Built for outdoor days
- Manual UV entry: no location request, no weather API, no account.
- Fitzpatrick skin-type selection for personalized estimates.
- SPF, exposed-skin, shade, clothing, hat, cloud, altitude, and reflective-surface inputs.
- A live countdown with haptics and optional notifications.
- A two-hour sunscreen reapply schedule with estimated product amount to pack.

New in 2.1
- Evidence Deck: 12 bundled offline reference cards covering UV bands, sunscreen amount, reapplication, photosensitivity, reflection, altitude, cloud cover, SED dose tracking, vitamin D caveats, and privacy.
- Guide tab upgrade: jump from the WHO UV band guide into the Evidence Deck without an internet connection.
- Clearer wellness wording throughout: Burntime now describes its outputs as planning estimates, not medical decisions.
- Removed the outdated purchase-info row from the app and metadata.

Planning tools
- Today screen: UV, SPF, exposed skin, physical protection, estimated planning window, timer, sunscreen amount, best-time-of-day planner, reapply schedule, SPF planner, and vitamin D caveat card.
- Conditions screen: adjust effective UV for altitude, reflective surfaces, and cloud cover.
- Budget and Sun Dose tabs: track logged sessions by day and view a seven-day Standard Erythema Dose estimate.
- Guide tab: WHO-style UV band actions plus the new source-card deck.
- History tab: export your sessions as CSV for your own records.

Privacy by design
Burntime has no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking, subscriptions, developer backend, HealthKit access, or location access. Everything runs on device. Sessions and preferences stay in local app storage.

Important
Burntime is a wellness planning and education tool, not medical advice. Estimates are approximate and depend on real-world conditions, correct sunscreen use, individual biology, medication labels, and clinician guidance. Follow sunscreen labels and public-health guidance, and reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming or sweating.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2 — 2026-07-05

Burntime now works hands-free with Siri, Spotlight, and Shortcuts. Just ask to start a sun timer or check how long you can safely be in the sun, and Burntime answers using your saved skin type, UV index, and SPF. A new Today-screen tip makes it easy to add these to Siri, and layouts now read more comfortably on iPad.

### 2.1 — 2026-06-28

Version 2.1

• New Evidence Deck: 12 bundled offline source cards for UV bands, sunscreen amount, reapplication, photosensitivity, reflection, altitude, cloud cover, SED dose tracking, vitamin D caveats, and privacy.

• Guide tab upgrade: open the evidence cards directly from the UV Guide, so the source basis is easy to find during App Review and in the field.

• Removed the outdated purchase-info row and stale purchase wording from the app.

• Clearer wellness wording: Burntime now frames outputs as planning estimates and includes stronger source/disclaimer language.

• App Store screenshots and metadata refreshed for the current 2.1 interface.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-24

Burntimes 2.0 — a pro upgrade for safe sun, still 100% offline.

• Sun Dose engine: track your cumulative UV dose (Standard Erythema Dose) per session and week, with a "burns' worth" read.
• Sun Dose tab: a 7-day dose chart against a comfortable-daily reference line.
• Photosensitivity check: flag medications that increase sun sensitivity and trim your safe-sun budget accordingly.
• Reapply Schedule: exact reapply times and how much sunscreen to pack for a planned outdoor block.
• Best-time-today forecast: a per-hour safe-minutes strip and the safest time of day to go out.

A private tracker — no account, no network. Informational, not medical advice.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-15

Version 1.1 introduces three major upgrades:

Body Exposure — a new "Skin Exposed" picker on the Today screen lets you choose how much skin is actually in the sun: Face & Neck, Arms & Face, Upper Body, or Full Body. Less skin exposed means a longer safe budget. The live countdown, SPF Planner, and CSV export all reflect your choice.

Vitamin D Estimate — the Today screen now shows how many minutes of unprotected sun your skin type needs to stimulate meaningful vitamin D synthesis at the current UV index and coverage level, grounded in published dermatology research (Holick 2004, Webb 1988). The countdown ring shows your vitamin D progress as a secondary arc. This estimate is for bare skin only — sunscreen suppresses it.

Reapply Timer Fix — the countdown card now shows a live countdown to your next reapply time (2 hours after session start, then 2 hours after each "I reapplied" tap), so you always know exactly when to reapply next.

### 1.1 — 2026-06-14

Version 1.1 adds three new features:

UV Protection Guide — a new Guide tab with WHO-sourced protective action recommendations for every UV band (Low through Extreme). Tap any band to see exactly what clothing, shade, SPF, and eye protection is recommended at that UV level.

SPF Planner — on the Today screen, a reverse calculator answers "How much sunscreen do I need?" Pick how long you'll be outside; the Planner shows the minimum SPF level for your skin type and today's UV, and the safe-sun budget that SPF achieves.

Session Export — tap the share button on the History tab to export all your sessions as a CSV file. Open it in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets to review trends over time.
