The app is reasonably thought out, lacking in places. Critical functionally missing dark mode and text is tiny. Busuu as made me confident and able to live well in France and is enabling me to do the same in Spain. I am also able to help people speak English when I want by correcting their submissions that they speak or write in English. But that is as much or as little as you want. However, the lessons are poorly explained and very hard to follow. I don’t recommend this app to beginners. ### 1/5 — Unskippable Ads breaking the app. *2026-09-05, version 30.25.0* This app was great while I could actually use it, unfortunately they decided to ruin that. It only made me watch ads after lessons which was fine for a while, but they suddenly decided to change that. Now it makes me watch ads BEFORE the lessons to unlock them. The problem is that the ads are unskippable. I will sit through the entire ad and wait even a few minutes, but no X or exit button appears, the ad could go on forever if I let it. The only way to “end” the ad is by closing out the app entirely. But when I do that, the new lesson still isn’t unlocked! So there is no way for me to unlock new lessons at all, even if i sit through my ads. I really hope they fix those soon. They heavy handedly repeatedly claim how acceptable LGBTQ families are, feminists preferred topics ad nauseaum. And how deficient the USA and other countries are in this regard compared to Deutschland! I'm learning korean right now (i've used it for conversational french and loved it, too). Lessons can feel a little long if you're used to game-like apps, like Duolingo, but they are very informative & also give you less formal vocabulary like if you were talking to someone in real life, rather than a strictly formal setting. It's very detailed within a specific subject in a very consistent way, I always felt Duo was kind of all over the place subject-wise.
