I only ran in to people who wanted trans trophies and no one looking for an actual connection. It’s not safe at all and support won’t delete your account even if you email them and give them a legitimate reason why it isn’t safe. Stay FAR away. **Developer response:** Hello. There will always been people that are not ideal on any app so we have a block (not my type) option to remove them from your results. We also remove accounts on request but if you have an active payment this must be confirmed cancelled before an account is removed or it is not possible to track and remove if there is no account data. I understand why but it’s not worth getting to know anyone if you aren't allowed to speak from your heart while building your profile. I was hopping the fixed that. Its a huge no for me. I am Intersex/ Trans fem and Asexual Neutral. It is a nightmare for a person like me to find a partner in these apps. I found someone of the same spectrum n i cannot even talk to them cuz of a pay wall. I find it insulting that i cannot modify my own profile either. It literally feels very cold n controlling how they present u. I feel like I'm just another steak in the market. I would rather stay in grndr. They don’t force u to pay for chats n you are free to do with your profile as u please with minor restrictions. Yes theres a crap ton of a holes n rude men there but it doesn’t limit me from what’s important. No pay wall for communication.,whats the point of this trans space if we aren’t allowed to talk to each other? Make chat accessible without a pay wall n i would give it a better chance. Otherwise don’t bother trying to make a “safe space” without communication it’s counterproductive. It takes more than looks for me to be attracted to another person. Without the one thing that matters to me more than flesh? Why would i waste money on vip if its not really catered to people like me? **Developer response:** Sorry you didn't like the app. Butterfly is a small app and small team and we need a paywall to stay in business. We cannot offer the app for free. We have restricted profiles to reduce abuse but you can write whatever you wish in your intro message which is shared with others. Once you connect you can also share whatever you wish. Butterfly has some great members and I always try to help the members. After a certain limit (three?) you will need to purchase a VIP membership. When I corresponded with one user, they told me they hadn’t sent a message personally. It appears their message of “interest” was automatically generated based on the message saved as a “flirt.” This is very misleading behavior, yet somehow typical of dating apps. It’s irritating that they are targeting the LGBT+ community with their questionable and unethical techniques. **Developer response:** We have adjusted the payment system now so you can send some message for free and a VIP account allows full access. ### 1/5 — Don’t waist your time *2022-08-22, version 1.2* Set up profile selected type of person I’m looking for and got the complete opposite. It limits your chats to 3 people pair day unless you pay for vip which is hugely overpriced. ### 3/5 — Application works ok. *2022-06-14* The application works okay, but it is confusing as all heck. Distances are measure as the crow flies, not as traveled. My preferences are set to region, yet I get messages from all over the world. So it is honoring the request of the other party when searching, but not mine. Definitely would not consider paying for it. **Developer response:** We have to use distance by global arc or it would require knowledge of all the roads in the world and what mode of transport you planned to use. That would be very complex and hard to maintain. We will look at blocking messages from a user defined distance. So few profiles with pictures and there just doesn’t seem like there are a lot of people on this app. ### 2/5 — Really unfortunate *2022-03-05* I wanted to enjoy this app but it’s just not there. I live in SoCal and even in this populous area, everyone is tens of miles, if not hundreds of miles, away from me which just isn’t realistic for dating. Not to mention the scarcity. I was active on here for two weeks sending messages and giving likes before anyone even got back to me. I have only heard from 3 actual people in over a month on the app. Lastly, a majority of whom I encountered were cis het male “trans chasers.” I was asked why I don’t have “girl pics” even tho I’m a trans guy, and “what kind of trans I am” by numerous people. I know the creators can’t control persay who is on here and what are saying, but this wasn’t really a safe space to connect with people in my community. **Developer response:** We still need to gain more members and we work hard to promote Butterfly. We are growing faster than ever. If you find people you do not wish to communicate with then please use the block tool > not my type. We will try to work on more general filtering tools to help make things simpler. With close to 40 gender types it is not as easy as a cis only app. ### 1/5 — Crap all there other apps are just clones of this one. *2022-02-19* So I had this for about 2 years, had maybe one or two real chats with real people. other than that just fake account. The app doesn’t let you pick your location. So just enjoy not knowing where people are and where it says your from. Complete defeating the purpose of meeting anyone close to you. I already know you will see the same exact profiles from there other apps purely for the fact they are scammers and just wanna front that they have legit users on there app. ⭐️ one 1 star I would give it a -100 ⭐️ but you can’t 🤷🏻‍♂️ **Developer response:** Hello, you can set your location from the city button on your profile, you can choose GPS, IP address or manual. This allows you to search via distance and activity. With respect to fakes, we delete these and users can report to the moderation team and we also have detection tools. I had to stop and start too many times and I’ve kind of lost interest now. I haven’t actually gotten to the app yet. People need to know up front what’s involved and about how long it’s going to take. We need a standardized biometric verification system as well. How bout no! **Developer response:** Hello, photo verification is becoming law in many countries. It is used to stop underage users and scammers. I would hope you agree that both of these are very important. If you do not want photo verification, then you will have to campaign to hardware vendors to verify at the device level; however, they do not seem interested. ### 1/5 — Can’t get past Face ID *2025-06-28* Despite continuously trying, all I get is a white screen that does not change. Another fake site only designed to make the owners money. I have been conned yet again ### 1/5 — You cannot delete your account once you set it up *2024-08-14* They have a button in the settings for delete account. But it does not work. Over the course of weeks I’ve tried multiple browsers multiple times and it takes you to a blank screen with a headline that deleting the account is the correct page, but there are no options. Beware, It’s totally a trap!! The best you can do is delete your pictures and basic information. But you’re forever there and you will find lots of blank profiles and I assume for that same reason. **Developer response:** The delete has a restriction when you still have an active subscription so someone cannot delete the app but forget to cancel. After a user account reverts back to none VIP they can delete. Importantly, at any time just contact support and they will erase your account once you have understood that delete app and cancel subscription are two separate tasks. It’s a really good way to meet other transgender people in your area. ### 5/5 — Security is amazing! *2020-07-11* I feel bad for all the negative reviews this app gets. I tried it out myself (albeit for a short amount of time) and I was very satisfied with the amount of security and privacy it provides! I read through all of the user agreement and privacy policy and I can confirm it’s easy to understand and is very comprehensive. Why I deleted an app wasn’t a fault on the app’s behalf, I just realised that I wasn’t ready for this kind of thing and got cold feet. Once it came down to actually messaging someone in my area I got really scared, especially if they had no photo for their icon. Then I realised I had no icon myself, but when I went to change it, I was too scared to put my real face. Even when it was obscured by a face mask and the eyes were blacked out, I still felt nervous. I’ll come back once I’m more mature and ready to tackle internet dating. Thank you for all the effort you put into making this app as secure as possible, it does not go unnoticed, and I really appreciate it! **Developer response:** Thank you for a good quality review. Some people delete and don't cancel the payment so we make sure that it has ended before the account has been removed. If we didn't the data would go and we could not manage the account. As the app mentions you can ask support to erase it once you confirm you have cancelled. ### 4/5 — Good things come to those who wait *2021-03-01* I have left a couple notes for the developer and been pleasantly surprised by the courtesy of their response and also their clear interest in making this more than just another application, but a service for the transgender community. It’s a relatively new app and there are a little things left to be worked out, like the tape is a bit small and it is not extremely well organized just yet but the developer is very active and always looking for guidance on what we would like to see happen with the application! He certainly don’t get that in many places on the App Store! Usually you get canned responses to the most common complaints and the problems never seem to get worked on. This is the other side of the spectrum. Although the program is relatively new I’ve had good contact with the number of the members and I’ve made friends. That’s what I was looking for, so for me this has delivered!😊 it’s growing and going through growing pains but with somebody so dedicated to make this work and it being such a great service to the transgender community I encourage you to be part of the journey. **Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback.
