### 1/5 — Robot Kept My Drink

*2023-06-11*

It brewed my drink, all right. It just didn’t give it to me. Put it down out of reach, and then waved in my face. Taunting me.

### 1/5 — Just know, your hot drink is gonna be cold.

*2021-12-19, version 3.5.3*

These things serve a “hot” beverage at basically room temperature. I’ve had 3 hot lattes from the SFO location, each is about room temperature if not slightly less. Since it’s just a robotic arm, there isn’t any way to return it. You just lose your money. It just serves one cold “hot” latte after another for weeks on end.

### 1/5 — SFO machine does not work!

*2021-08-09, version 3.5.3*

The machine at SFO will gladly take your money but will not make you a coffee. The app is so over designed/stylized that it’s beyond useless. When asked to verify my phone number a code was never sent. There are no instructions on how to troubleshoot so you’re stuck sending an email into the void. The whole business seems to be a scam. Save your money and go elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Can’t login

*2019-10-02, version 3.4.2*

Can’t login, after inputting the verification code it just spins and does nothing

### 1/5 — Waste of a Free Drink code :(

*2019-06-24, version 3.3.1*

After purchasing a drink at one of the locations, I was sent a free drink code to my e-mail. I downloaded the app and entered the code, which seemed to work. I assumed it would just be added to a rewards bank like how any other rewards/loyalty apps work. After exiting to look around the rest of the app, I wasn’t able to re-locate that free drink reward, and when I try to re-enter the code, the app says it’s already been used. I feel gypped into downloading the app!

### 1/5 — We had a good relationship until...

*2019-06-13, version 3.3*

Was loyal to cafeX and I got a lot of my co workers to like her too.

I would go see her at least twice a day and I always left with a smile.
& just when I was falling for her, she changed.

She doesn’t offer packs anymore.
Now she’s acting like a basic barista telling me I can’t see her without paying double what I used to.

Sorry cafeX, but I think it’s time we saw other people.

**Developer response:** Fixed! Apologies for that.

### 1/5 — Rip off

*2019-02-18, version 3.2.3*

Unless there is a human near by that provides support I don’t recommended using the machine. I ordered a matcha latte at the machine on the mall and it gave me a near empty cup with some matcha in it, not even half full, maybe it ran out of milk? Idk

It’s a shame cause it did taste good.

### 3/5 — Who needs people

*2018-08-09, version 3.0.0*

It works. Placed order, entered code at terminal, picked up mocha, gave robot the finger. Then I deleted the app.

I believe these sorts of automations disregard the negative impact on society. I envision the investor pitch: Everyone goes to cafes! We capture demand and eliminate margins with robots! Exit strategy involving starbucks, convenience, apps, unicorns... at no point does the thought of human interaction or economic impact of jobless baristas enter the fray.

Until we face these serious philosophical and economic issues I vote for the humans. Also, the mocha was a tad too sweet.

**Developer response:** Hi roovolution!

The robot has actually increased human interaction by letting our on-site product specialists focus on more productive tasks like greeting customers and discussing our menu. Plus, there wouldn’t be any robots without a dedicated team of engineers, designers, business folks, and partners to bring it all together. We plan to hire more as we grow and are doing so now, even if those jobs look a little different than your average coffee shop. Here’s a recent customer review of how robots have made our experience more delightful for employees and customers alike:

"It's easy to think that using robots means we will lose the positive aspects of human interactions. Not for this place though as I have only found the friendliest of people here - Anthony, Sam, Paul, and the other Anthony; you're all gems! The time to make coffee is now taken away from these ppl so they can concentrate on interacting and explaining the concept of Cafe X. Well done."

### 3/5 — Works alright, feels broken

*2018-02-06, version 2.4.91*

No iPhone X support, looks like complete trash. Controls are tiny and don’t follow human interface guidelines.

**Developer response:** Hey Joey, we've released a brand new app since your review. Would love to hear what you think. Let us know at support@cafexapp.com. Your first drink is free.

### 4/5 — Requires log in

*2018-03-14, version 2.4.93*

Please don’t create apps that require log in. I want to see the menu, and experience your app before I decide to create an account.

I am now using Cafe X for coffee on my way to work. It is convenient to place the order on the go and have it waiting.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback! Your request is now in our latest update.

## Most praised reviews (8 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2019-02-24, version 3.2.4*

Easy, to use, great coffee every time and what a fun experience. I use the Bush Street, San Francisco location but I really hope that they create more locations soon!

### 5/5 — CafeX is A+

*2018-08-15, version 3.0.0*

I’m a huge fan of CafeX. I’m exclusively having my meetings here now. Great coffee, quick, and a brings a huge smile for people who haven’t seen it before. Great work team!

### 5/5 — Prepaid vouchers don’t last, app errors

*2018-02-26, version 2.4.93*

Prepaid passes expire after only 30 days. Support staff is nice and will help extend it but the app crashes and doesn’t allow me to log in with error messages on any option I try. Won’t work when I’m actually here at the machine ready to pay with a $40 voucher.

### 5/5 — Amazing coffee

*2017-06-12, version 2.4.91*

Delicious, fast, and fun. Love Cafe X!

### 5/5 — Sign-up not working

*2017-04-16, version 2.4.7*

I tried signing up, but I can't get past the SMS verify screen, keeps throwing an invalid token error even though I entered the code correctly. Tried it multiple times.

Update: I tried it again today and now it working fine. Changed from original rating of 1 star.

### 5/5 — Good app!

*2016-01-17, version 1.3.0*

This new technology is the future of coffee! So convenient and intelligent

### 5/5 — New age coffee experience

*2015-11-30, version 1.3.0*

Wow. Just tried this new coffee concept. It is the way of the future. Not to forget that the coffee tasted amazing!

### 4/5 — Does not include full menu

*2018-02-21, version 2.4.93*

Use 7YZB51 for a free drink! The app allows you to order without using one of the kiosks at the physical locations so you can have your drink queues up while you walk over. But it only has the coffee options, not the matcha latte, hot chocolate, or milk.

**Developer response:** Hey st21, our mobile app menu features everything we offer now: all that you mentioned plus merchandise and award-winning pastries. First drink is free in the new app!
