### 4/5 — Great at first

*2020-10-14, version 2.2.3*

This was the only relatively nice caffeine tracker for a bit. Unfortunately there haven’t been updates and I’m looking for a quicker way to input caffeine. I hope they update because I have so much info on it.

### 3/5 — I want to like this. It is so close

*2019-09-23, version 2.2.1*

1. Right now the app is crashing whenever I try to add anything via barcode scanner or when I use haptic touch to add a volume to one of my favorites.
2. Almost all of the preset drinks have no hydration value. That is not a deal breaker, I can add my own custom beverages that have caffeine and water.
3. I wish it had some sort of reminder feature. Like WaterMinder.

### 2/5 — Clunky

*2019-07-10, version 1.9*

EDIT: Dev says below that changes are coming with an upcoming update so take that into consideration 👍

It’s all American drinks. It’s hard to work out how to use the app. Some drinks seem to add zero hydration but similar drinks add it. It showed 7 litres earlier when I’ve only drank about 1 litre. Weird.

Why can’t I just define the 3 quick drinks from scratch: give each one a name, assign an icon, and type in an exact amount of caffeine and hydration? Why do I have to select those 3 drinks from lists of weird American stuff and some “home made” drinks which aren’t exactly what I want? What’s the point of tracking caffeine and water at all, if it can’t be accurate?

Wasted a dollar and wasted my time unfortunately.

### 4/5 — Useful tracker

*2019-04-04, version 1.9*

Great tool to keep an eye on caffeine intake and it’s good that water intake can be recorded too.
It would be nice to be able to look at some stats and trends, but I’ve been told improvements in these areas are on the way with an impending upgrade.
It’s a handy app.

### 4/5 — It works

*2019-01-01, version 1.9*

Could definitely use some improvements like an update for the Series 4 Apple Watch, ability to add custom icons for custom drinks, support for Siri Shortcuts. All of these things added would make this app five star material, hoping to see an update down the line that includes some/all of this. Good job with the app so far!

### 2/5 — Apple Watch App Will Not Download to Phone

*2018-10-31, version 1.9*

The Apple Watch App will not download to my watch after purchase. It doesn’t show up in my list of available apps even though the option to open the app shows on the Apple Watch App Store.

### 3/5 — Scan function failure

*2018-07-27, version 1.9*

The app is fine and is helping me monitor my caffeine intake during pregnancy but the scan product function is not really a function. It has not found one single thing I have scanned. If that was fixed I could easily give this 5 stars

### 2/5 — Such an awesome potential!

*2018-04-27, version 1.9*

This is an awesome app for tracking both hydration and caffeine. The only very annoying problem that the developer seems to be struggling with for the past few months are unit conversions between imperial and metric. I use the app exclusively in metric, however the Today widget seems to interpret the hydration value in mL as oz and converts it again to ml showing a value about 30x the actual. Similar effect happens when adding fractions of custom drinks (e.g. 2 of my custom water glasses).

If not for this issue would be 5 stars. If the app implemented estimated BAC (blood alcohol content) in addition caffeine through HealthKit it would fill a big functionality gap and would be worth spending good money on!

### 1/5 — Starbucks. Seriously??

*2017-08-29, version 1.7.6*

Very limited content. You don't even have a Starbucks americano in your database?

I want my dollar back

### 2/5 — Needs work

*2017-08-07, version 1.7.5*

This app has positive features and an okay database for caffeinated drinks but has barely any database for drinks that hydrate without caffeine (juices etc) so trying to track hydration is impossible without tons of work. The bar code scanning feature doesn't recognize my bottled drinks in this capacity either. The other issue is that when you click a beverage, you can't actually just choose the number of ounces, it has to be in increments of 25%. This is ridiculous. Just let me choose the oz number from a drop down. Over all, needs more practical focus. Lastly, seemingly can't go back to add to a previous day to add if I've forgotten something (or it's after midnight but I want it included in the day because I'm still awake, per my doctor). Super lame. Hopefully these changes get instituted.

### 1/5 — Massive Bugs in New Update

*2017-07-08, version 1.7*

They updated the app recently and broke the app. It's always displaying random caffeine and hydration numbers for me now. Barcode scanner is hit or miss whether it works.

### 1/5 — Pretty horrible

*2017-04-12, version 1.6.1*

Doesn't help at all you should be able to scan the product you drink into the app

### 2/5 — Seems promising, but...

*2017-02-08, version 1.6.1*

The app crashes every time I try to open the "feedback/support" option. Also, I would like the ability to edit journal entries. If there were a way to visualize caffeine leaving my system, this app would be perfect. I will probably ask for a refund if these options aren't in development.

### 2/5 — Needs Updating

*2017-02-06, version 1.6.1*

Until the entries in metric are accurately measured, this app just doesn't cut it. I also would like to see the ability to put in my own serving sizes for accuracy. The link to HealthKit and my watch is awesome (and why I bought the app) but I won't bother with it again until there is an update.

### 3/5 — Needs Work

*2017-01-05, version 1.6.1*

Good idea, decent interface, completely inadequate beverage database. What I can't forgive is the app not being able to do the arithmetic. The totals were not necessarily correct every day.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Trash app

*2021-05-05, version 2.2.3*

Amateur hour. Absolute trash. Bait and switch. Database doesn’t even have Starbucks iced coffee. Doesn’t even have original Rockstar energy drink. Forget anything such as a Pure Leaf Cold Brew Tea. Scan the barcode and it asks you to give them info on beverage. Despite deleting all drinks it still says caffeine content 140mg? Cleared all memory cache. Still says 140mg? Will see if tomorrow it resets. Don’t waste a penny on this garbage app.

### 1/5 — CRASH,Crash,crash!!!

*2020-01-26, version 2.2.3*

2 phones, updated app, and yet both versions crash as soon as you try to put anything in! Just manually put it in apple health! Because this is rubbish!

### 1/5 — Deleted Journal

*2019-08-02, version 2.0*

Automatic updates meant I never had the option to export my journal before the update. Now all of my data and favorites are gone.

### 1/5 — Cute, but total caffeine for the day always wrong

*2019-01-05, version 1.9*

I liked the look of the UX and this had better reviews than most of the others I found, but though you can edit the log of what you’ve drunk, the total for the day will NOT update with any change. If I add something after midnight for a few hours before (you can edit time in the log) it still says its for the following day. Completely useless for my purposes; planning to delete and see if I can get my dollar back.

### 1/5 — Online help could be better

*2018-06-26, version 1.9*

Hard to understand how to setup. Very little guidance or instruction available

### 1/5 — Poor UI, Sad Database

*2018-01-23, version 1.8.2*

The UI isn’t always intuitive. And there’s some bug that makes it so that adjusting servings doesn’t necessarily update the caffeine intake. Or sometimes you’d go edit the number of servings after the fact and the caffeine intake doesn’t change.

Additionally, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why some brands of coffee are added and some are not. There is some data for Dunkin Donuts but not Starbucks.

### 1/5 — Decent interface but NOT accurate

*2018-01-17, version 1.8.2*

Easy enough to use, nice that you can set favorites and “quick adds“ (or whatever they call them)…

The caffeine total, however— I started a new day, and added two glasses of “tapwater” (which show caffeine values of 0mg and hydration values of 8oz each)… Back on the dashboard, it shows my 16oz of hydration and 300mg of caffeine!

Moving on

### 1/5 — Not as good as other options

*2017-12-13, version 1.8.1*

It’s confusing to start adding regular home brewed coffee. I also bought this to use with apple watch and it is not working.

### 1/5 — not usable

*2017-11-10, version 1.7.6*

app is overbloated with some crazy types..

I only need to have:

water glass 200ml
coffee 200ml
cappucino 250ml

but you cannot find them nor add them..

### 1/5 — Not user friendly

*2017-09-02, version 1.7.6*

Really difficult to set up quick drinks and doesn't seem at all intuitive. No common Australian coffees such as flat white, long black or Nespresso. I'm deleting it and trying another one.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love this app! 💙☕️

*2019-08-09, version 2.0*

This is the perfect app for tracking your caffeine intake. The developer pays attention to detail and has done a great job of incorporating modern iOS features including HealthKit. The watchOS app is the icing on the cake!

### 5/5 — Great little app!

*2018-05-26, version 1.9*

I love this app — it does exactly what I need it to ... it helps me track my caffeine and fluid intake. Nice bonus: it ties in with the Apple Health app, so you can see your trends.

Super convenient to use — add beverages from a list, and the app notes the caffeine and fluid intake. For convenience, you can tag your 3 most frequently consumed beverages, so that you can track your consumption of those with a single click.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2018-03-19, version 1.9*

Thank You so much for this app! It really helps me focus on my water intake and my caffeine. I’m a caffeine addict so it helps to know how much I’ve had throughout the day. And I like that you can date it because sometimes I forget! And of course the addition to Apple health is the BEST! Thank you 😊 so much!!

### 5/5 — Exactly what I needed!

*2018-02-17*

When I decided to limit my caffeine, I downloaded all the apps designed to specifically track coffee intake. And after trying them all out, this one is the best by far. The simplicity of the app is exactly what I needed. Just using it for the first week, I was able to cut my caffeine in half. You can add reminders and set limits for the day. I also like that I can track the amount of water I’m drinking. I’ve found that setting limits on my caffeine, coupled with targets for water has helped me switch to better choices in my beverages.

The database is good and growing. But what I will say is that their customer service is excellent. I emailed about a problem I was having with the app and received an immediate reply with a solution. I wish every app was like this. As far as your favorite drinks, if they are not in the database, you can add them manually and also request that they be added to the master database.

If you’re looking for a way to stick to that New Years resolution. This is the perfect app.

**Developer response:** Thank you - I'm glad to hear Caffiend is working well for you! Best wishes on your journey to reducing your caffeine intake. 👍🏻

### 5/5 — Effective & useful

*2017-07-12, version 1.7*

Found this app to be better than all the freebies. Don't need a water app or dodgy coffee app anymore. Easy to use and can customise my preferences/add 3 favourites. Would love a couple more on the dashboard for this. Only problem is that all caffeine/drink choices are international (mostly US), which doesn't help us Aussies. I'm sure I could customise & send this as it is advertised to do this. Automatically sends data of caffeine & water to Apple Health as well. iWatch app also good for me.

### 5/5 — Best caffeine tracker on the App Store

*2016-10-12, version 1.6.1*

I've tried more caffeine trackers than I care to admit - both free and paid for ones - and this is, by far, the best one out there and it's still being developed. Jawbone had a great tracker that I used for quite some time but it's been broken for over a year and isn't being developed.

Meanwhile, this app continues to be maintained and updated by a developer who's very responsive to suggestions and bug reports. Every bug I've reported has been fixed and the developer has been polite and responsive to those bug reports.

There are still some features I'd like to see, but knowing that the app is being actively maintained, I'm sure they will show up soon. The watchOS app is quite good now too, under watchOS 3. Adding a drink takes just a few seconds if that.

I don't use the hydration feature as I already have a water tracker, but for those that don't, it's a nice bonus feature. And for those that do, you can turn that feature off.

Oh! And one of my favorite features - which really should be standard for these kinds of apps - HealthKit integration. This is very handy as it means your caffeine intake can be charted and historical results are available. When used with other HealthKit enabled apps, this allows one to track patterns - perhaps seeing a direct correlation between one's caffeine intake and mood via a mood app tracker for example. The possibilities are endless and I'm thankful this app logs the data it collects into the Apple Health app as a result of this HealthKit enabling.

Kudos to the developer for a great app! Keep up the good work!

### 5/5 — Does what you need and does it very well!

*2016-09-26, version 1.6.1*

There is a lot to love with this app for anyone needing to taper off caffeine. First off, the Apple Watch app is flawless in design and even has a round 'complication' you can add to your watch faces. Secondly, it syncs with HealthKit which is a bare necessity these days. I only wish the sync between HealthKit and the watch was smoother but this could be an Apple bug. Also the database isn't too extensive but it is really easy to add a custom drink or supplement.

I guess going forward if the developers wanted to expand they could add other stimulants of abuse like ephedrine or adderall but why make it more complicated because HealthKit integration means all apps can share data and they each focus on one specific area then combine and create categories to compare. For example, a sleep tracking app like Pillow should be able to read data from Caffiend and make a chart showing how late you can 'dose up' without ruining your sleep.

### 5/5 — Awesome app for keeping track of caffeine in health kit

*2016-06-15, version 1.5.1*

This app makes logging caffeine drinks and such pretty easy. I drink too many energy drinks and this helps me gradually trim down. Works with Health Kit by Apple too! App devs are really responsive about getting new suggested items into the database. Definitely recommend trying out the app.

### 5/5 — Great caffeine tracker!

*2016-01-31, version 1.4*

Great app! I especially like that it syncs with the health app so you can track your water/caffeine intake over time.

Personally, I don't drink coffee. I wish I liked the taste of it but I find it gross. I've tried it in all of its forms. Therefore, even though they are much worse for you, I usually drink one energy drink a day. I've received a lot of criticism for drinking energy drinks because of the "high caffeine content". Don't get me wrong, I'm aware most energy drinks are packed with high fructose corn syrup, which is almost pure poison (which is why I try to drink ones that use pure sugar, even though it's not much better for you).

I'm using this app for two things, and it does a great job at it:

1. To show I'm not consuming more caffeine than my friends and family who drink a TON of coffee each day.

2. To track my caffeine to make sure I'm not going overboard and to make sure I consume enough pure water everyday.

Some suggestions:

I'd really like a way to organize my custom drinks I create by name. Most of the energy drinks I drink aren't listed and they are all over the place. A manual way to organize the drinks would be best.

Also, maybe a way to upload a picture of your custom drinks (or even ones that are preloaded)? Just for fun!

### 5/5 — Simple and customizable

*2016-01-28, version 1.4*

Very clean and accessible. Highly editable. Love the ability to make custom drinks and saving favorites on the front page.
