The automatic notification system gives my family so much peace of mind because they know they'll be alerted with my last known GPS location if I'm overdue coming off the trail. I especially love the crowdsourced cell coverage mapping feature—it makes finding a signal patch in the middle of nowhere so much easier. The offline maps are clear, reliable, and don't completely kill my battery. I realized it is great for sharing your location with family and friends too. It will allow for tracking. Whether I’m hiking in the summer with my dog or splitboarding in the winter, this app has been awesome. Unfortunately, it just stopped tracking me in the middle of my Grand Canyon rim2rim hike. Not sure why this happened since I never let my battery die. I guess it was too good to be true. Subscription ended. ### 1/5 — Almost *2023-01-14* The only significant attraction this app has over the others is the mobile phone coverage. But this is crowd sourced from their users, and they presumably have almost none of those in Australia cause there’s almost no such data, even in popular visitor locations like Gariweid (Grampians). So basically you’re paying to supply the app with data for no return at the moment. ### 5/5 — Safety! *2022-10-27, version 2.1.29* We had many deaths on the trails this year due to heat, no cell service, and a snake bite. I love that this app shows where cell service is available and notifies my family where I am. ### 4/5 — Review On Cairn *2022-08-01, version 2.1.28* So I just started on Cairn and it seems to work well and is a good choice for travel. ### 5/5 — Surprised more hikers don’t use this! *2022-06-08, version 2.1.28* I use a satellite communicator but wanted something that friends who don’t have one can use to notify their family as they hike or hunt or horseback ride which is what we do. If you begin your trip where there is cell service, this app will continue to work even if you go out of cell service! Also, SUPER great is you can try this app for free for 30 days with full Premium features enabled and no credit card needed. So with that, I say download the app and try it out. Even though we use a satellite communicator too, this app is well worth the $26 per year to keep track of your hike every few minutes and send it to your safety circle back home and they can watch your progress and know if your back safely or not. I am so surprised more people don’t use this. This is even great for our teen drivers when they go out with friends, it sends report every 30 minutes or so via text or email. The ability to “queue” messages until cell signal is established works well in areas of poor coverage.
