Nice screen, no keyboard. Would be so much easier to use if the keyboard stayed. This calculator stands out for its functionality, ease of use and features. Update: I have an issue, in one of the updates, editing strings changed and I use the calculator in String mode, often editing a string to change sections, when I edit the string and delete a part, it clears the entire string. I use it every day for a wide range of quick calculation and checks. Also very interesting to explore its many functions. ### 2/5 — WAS excellent *2017-06-17, version 2.8* SO nice to be able to use RPN ! BUT, the new UI is awful. All the buttons are now a creepy pastel color, with all but the number keys using small, white lettering to mark the keys. The high contrast is gone, as are any of the "blocks" of keys that made it easy to use. The ergonomics of the new keyboard is simply terrible. Everything seems great so far. I like that you can use all the pro functions for the rest of the day just by clicking on an ad. One issue that I experience is that sometimes when I tap the menu button the app crashes. Since the upgrade now you have to go into the drop down menu and select “Scientific” before the calculator shows up to be used. What a pain. Definitely not an improvement. ### 1/5 — Bad *2018-09-21, version 3.0* Ads ### 1/5 — Buggy and not supported by the developer *2018-04-07, version 2.9* Hicalc used to be great, and then the developers got distracted with other products and forgot to maintain this app. I’ve complained several times over the past 6 months about a couple of severe bugs (especially with the currency conversion) and they keep telling me to be patient because they’re busy developing other apps. I paid for this one, and there’s no way I’d ever buy any other app from this developer until they fix what’s wrong with this app. ### 1/5 — We want the previous look back! *2017-07-11, version 2.9* Please give us back the previous look. The look you have decided upon has made it rubbish. ### 1/5 — Updated to latest version *2017-05-27, version 2.8* I am anIPAD 2 owner who is still on IOS 7 for numerous reasons. After latest upgrade various screens including periodic table and hex/binary screens lost the menu so I could not switch between functions. So I deleted and re-installed to discover I have lost all my paid for content with no apparent way to restore my purchase. The upgrade is not expensive but I suspect that if I did that the screens would still not work and therefore would not be worth it. I have used this otherwise excellent calculator for years happily. I rarely give out one star reviews but just because I am not on the latest kit/OS I should not have to suffer. Can't restore either so I am stuck. ### 1/5 — Crashes *2017-03-14, version 2.7* This used to be my favorite calculator until a couple of days ago. Now whenever I try to open it, it crashes and will not open. I have tried several different things to open the app. The only thing that has worked so far is go back to App Store and open it from there. As in, if I hit 3 + 3 = and then = over and over, it would continue to add 3 to the function, like a normal calculator. Why anything billing itself as a calculator would lack such an essential, basic function is quite beyond me. More is not always better, used it as a simple calculator and worked fine. Now it is impossible to figure out how to make a simple calculator. Maybe fine if you want all the extra math functions but simple calculator cannot be found. Remember some of us only need simple calculators! Off to find new simple calculator. I thought this was a small price to pay. Now, you have to upgrade. However, I still rate this as a five-star app because there are so many features available even for the free version. The one change I would like to see is a separate Memory store button instead of needing to use M+ to put something into memory. The way it works now, if I want to totally replace what's in Memory, I have to hit MC (memory clear) and then M+ - two keys/buttons, compared to one serving this function in other calculator apps I have tried and on physical calculators.
