In terms of being a calendar you would use daily, for personal or professional, this calendar app is not it. It is not practical. Its visual identity is more geared to be interesting than useable. It is “neat.” Yet, a good calendar neat alone does not make. If you’re in the mood to view this app as art rather than a calendar you’ll use as a calendar, I would take a look. Otherwise, go in knowing that the functionality that brings it anywhere close to a useable calendar is $30/year. **Developer response:** Thank you for the honest review, although we’re sorry to hear that you didn’t find the app useful. The principle behind its design is just like it says in the app description: ‘Time, as defined by nature’. Although we do believe in importance of aesthetics, this isn’t intended to be some kind of art experiment, but rather a wholistic timepiece with all the essential functionality. Of course more features are always being planned and we have plenty of new things in the works right now. What we develop next is mainly prioritized based on user feedback, so feel free to make your own suggestions. Not intuitive ### 2/5 — Only shows locked screens. *2024-05-29* This app looks interesting, but once I skipped through the annoyingly forced and long tutorial, the first thing I tapped locked the entire app with a blank white page and padlock symbol, which can't be. In response to the developer's reply: There is no "cancel" button. The only way to escape the lock is to force-quit the app. In response to the developers at second reply: again there is no "cancel" button. The padlock screen completely locks the app. **Developer response:** Hello and thanks for reaching out. Just to clarify, tutorial mode can be switched off at any time with the “lightbulb” button located in the upper-right side of screen. The padlock screen scenario that you mention is known to happen in two cases: 1. Popup with Calendars menu (opened by first button in the upper-left corner), when calendar access is denied after the access prompt was presented in the welcome panel. The app may still be used without Calendar access although it won’t be possible to present calendars and events, or create new events. Either way, this popup can be dismissed with a ‘Cancel’ button at the top. 2. Expanded events list in free mode. It can be closed by tapping on the arrow pointing downwards and dragging it down. She thought I was crazy! Well I found my circle people! Thank you. A great app. Now I need the Lock Screen wallpaper. **Developer response:** That’s great to hear! The learning curve is a little steep, and it isn’t as intuitive as I had hoped. My biggest disappoint is that I can’t change the temperature to degrees fahrenheit, or at least I don’t see where to change it. Once I get the hang of it, I think I’ll be pretty happy. **Developer response:** Hi and thank you for reaching out! You can also write us to info@galilea.si for faster response. ### 3/5 — Lovely, but Needs Widgets *2022-10-13* This app is very beautiful, but I find myself returning to Apple’s free calendar app because of the easily accessible widgets, which can be added to the Home Screen and quickly referenced for scheduling reminders. I think adding several widget options for CircleTime, such as a moon phase widget and a widget each for day/week/month, will definitely make this app worth the sub. Without Home Screen widgets, I find that it is easy to forget I even have this app (one that I paid for) installed! It was for this reason I gave it 3 stars. However, I did subscribe for the year in the hopes that developers might be encouraged (or perhaps already have plans) to add this feature! All and all, this is a visually-pleasing app with a lot of potential! (pagan Wheel of the Year theme, anyone?) **Developer response:** Thanks so much for the extensive feedback! We actually do plan to make a few widgets by end of the year, so your timing is perfect. As for the pagan themes, we will get more into that later, but for now - just in case you missed it - there is an option in Preferences to replace calendar and clock digits with Nordic runes, among some others. Thank you for making something functional and different than the usual spreadsheet. This makes me feel like I’m more in-tune with the earths natural cycles. Possible improvement for developer: I would love to be able to choose if I want my week view to start on Sunday or Monday, would this be possible? Thank you! UPDATE: The developer quickly responded to my idea and has already implemented it! It’s only been a couple weeks. I do believe in energy exchange that compliments. Usually it’s a solid no ! I won’t even think about offering any kinda redundancy system that will result in ///another pay subscription commitment\\\ Circling is cool (usually),so I can see it has potential but aside from that “form” seems this offers me less details, costs more. Does form matter? Thanks again! 🙏🏻 ### 3/5 — It’s a subscription now *2022-05-29* I’d buy it if it were a one time purchase. But it’s hard to justify a subscription. Update in regards to the developer reaching out to explain their reasoning for moving to a subscription. See the thing is I actually hadn’t updated the app in about a year to avoid the subscription. I was forced to when I upgraded to a new phone. The original purchase app was good enough for me. It let me add events and track dates in a convenient format. From a consumer point of view further updates were largely unnecessary and if it means moving to ‘software as a service,’ unwanted. As it stands now the free app version does nothing for me. I can’t enter events anymore without upgrading. Long story short, from the consumer side this was a major step back. I no longer have a use for this app. My need is for the long haul ie. years. And I have no interest in paying for the app a dozen times over in that time. Updates were not necessary. **Developer response:** Thank you for rating and the chance to explain why we introduced a subscription. CircleTime was removed from sale a couple of years ago, and hasn't had a proper update for new devices even longer. In order to bring it back from the dead and ensure the same thing doesn't happen again, we had to come up with a more reliable funding - one that doesn't involve tracking our users, selling their personal data and bombarding them with pesky ads. At certain point developers realized that 'pay once, use forever' model had become unsustainable. It may have worked in the dawn of mobile applications when development was simpler, shorter and less expensive. It still works for certain products, such as games that you play once and then forget about, but not so much for productivity apps that require continuous updates for reliable functioning. Comparative apps have already adopted subscription based model (a.k.a. 'software as a service'), and it should come as no surprise that we did the same, albeit late. From a user perspective- if I enjoy using the app and wish to see it evolve and grow into something truly remarkable, I'll gladly support it by subscribing. Especially if it's a developer who responds to users' feedback and includes their suggestions whenever possible. :) ### 5/5 — Completely rebuilt - I love this app *2022-05-04, version 3.0.0* I’ve been looking forward to this rerelease and was not disappointed. I love the way the app places the present moment at the centre and depicts conceptual time in a circle around it. Breaking with the linearity of our conventional depiction of time the focus is always Now. So much information is presented in a single view, it’s a very cool way to rewire your thinking. It’s a little fiddly to use at first. I was swiping too widely and couldn’t get the screens to change. When I contacted the developers they were really helpful and quickly uncovered what I was doing wrong. The person I spoke with was warm, patient and pleasant. That in itself makes a difference. It’s working perfectly now. Very happy to give this app and its makers five stars. ### 2/5 — Way too confusing *2018-10-18, version 2.3.5* I wanted a simple circle clock, not sure why I thought this would be that. But it’s not. It’s convoluted and there’s no easy to follow manual for how to operate it. I frequently add in everything I want to do on a day, but seeing how the circle quickly fills up and events overlap each other, it’s clear that expectations may be a little high. The visual display helps to set realistic plans and offers insights into habits and recurring events over time helping you plan better and consider what things are important for you.
