### 2/5 — No Apple Wallet Support

*2025-10-24, version 2.20.1*

I’ve now used this app for almost a decade and it’s baffling that the developers haven’t introduced Apple Wallet support still. The bar code format used by CPL may not be supported, but it can easily be embedded as an image in the card (see Air Miles as an example). I’ve rolled my own CPL Apple Wallet card for years, so it’s 100% doable. Reviews have complained about this for years. Just do it devs.

### 2/5 — Logs the user out from every use.

*2025-08-13, version 2.19.0*

This app uses to be very essential in signing out books and such but nowadays it logs me out after every use which becomes a nuisance after a whole.

### 3/5 — Logs me out after every use

*2025-04-23, version 2.18.0*

Assuming it’s a bug as this never use to happen.

### 3/5 — Glitchy

*2024-03-30, version 2.14.0*

Keeps glitching

### 3/5 — Love it but glitchy

*2024-02-18, version 2.12.0*

I love it for putting holds on books and finding books but I find it super glitchy. Closes all the time, lots of errors, makes me sign in multiple times, randomly signs me out, etc.

### 2/5 — Audiobooks

*2023-09-02, version 2.10.0*

Continuously loses my place. I like to listen while doing other things, if I pause from Lock Screen then try to resume later the audio replays what I’ve already heard. Should pick up where it left off, not 15+ minutes earlier.

### 3/5 — Needs an update

*2021-11-02, version 2.6.1*

I always have to sign in every time I tap on the app, but I never used to have to do this. Please fix.

### 2/5 — It’s ok

*2020-10-10, version 2.3*

I liked the old format a lot better, it was easier to work with. The new format is new looking but you can’t find anything. I was trying to place a hold and my library card barcode keeps popping up. I was reloaded many times and it still doesn’t work. WTH

### 2/5 — New Update Makes the App Frustrating to Ise

*2020-09-22, version 2.3*

The recent update turns the app into a glorified browser of the library website - it presents things exactly as already on the website, and will log you out of the app if you’re logged in on a computer. The old app that was built specifically to be used on a phone was better, although I understand that it keeps things simpler for the developers to just show the website. :( The new update essentially removes the reason to use the app. Just use a web browser on your phone instead

### 3/5 — I guess???

*2020-08-04, version 1.4.3*

The App is ok, it can function ok, but what it can't ok is working on I pad. Yes it works, but the screen does not fit the whole device, AND you can only use it vertically.

I mean, you can have the screen become larger, but not really the same effect.

It works, but it's really tedious to use.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2020-03-13, version 1.4.3*

Same issue as others, on an iPad app opens as though sized for an iPhone 4, strangely enough it opens up full screen on my iPhone 6. Something needs to be corrected in the most recent update since the prior version worked just fine on my iPad. Library staff is aware of the problem and provides issue reports to IT staff but nothing happens. Library staff tells customers to reinstall which unfortunately changes nothing.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — THE HELL DO YOU MEAN BY SERVER RESPONDED WITH ERROR

*2024-11-12, version 2.16.1*

If a password is right THE PASSWORD SHOULD BE RIGHT THIS APP SHOULD BE SENT TO THE DEEPEST PART OF HELL AND WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF A BARCODE SCANNER THAT DOESNT EVEN SCAN THE BAR CODE

### 1/5 — Half way through book now unavailable

*2023-09-10, version 2.12.0*

Halfway through a suspenseful book and now it’s all the sudden not available and can’t even place hold on it. Frustrating.

### 1/5 — Does NOT work

*2023-01-14, version 2.9.1*

Upon initial download received error trying to open. ‘Something isn’t right. Server responded with an error.’ Deleted and tried again. Was able to get to login screen, then ‘Something went wrong’. error message again when entering username/PW. I do was correct as same used to log into website. Waste of time. Deleted immediately.

### 1/5 — No Apple Wallet support

*2022-04-26, version 2.6.1*

Please update this app and add Apple Wallet support rather than requiring a third party app to add my card to Apple Wallet

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2021-09-07, version 2.4*

No matter what I try it just says
 server error try again later

### 1/5 — *Do Not Update*

*2020-12-30, version 2.4*

If you have an older OS - an older phone - the new version of the app does not work. You can’t see your holds, your checkouts or your account info. I’m disappointed that an organization whose goal is to reduce barriers to access continues to place digital obstacles in place by following the shiny allure of technology. I understand it’s a double edged sword, but come on CPL!

### 1/5 — Bring back the old app *sob*

*2020-10-12, version 2.3*

I was so excited to receive an upgrade to the clunky app we’ve been using for years. But while the new version looks slick, it’s missing so much functionality from the old one! Most importantly, the book description (uhhh pretty important). I now have to find the book on Indigo in another window to read the description of the book. All you get is the title and author in this app. I’m sure I will miss tons of great novels because I don’t know what they’re about! Also gone is the “Just Ordered” and the G&M bestsellers. Two places where I discovered new books. You can’t click on the cover of the book to enlarge it. You also can no longer see reviews. I wish I could get the old version back, I promise not to complain about it anymore!

### 1/5 — New version is utterly useless. Can no longer log in.

*2020-10-09, version 2.3*

Try to log in but all you get is an error that says “server error, try again later”

### 1/5 — Majorly cluttered, lost a lot of features

*2020-09-30, version 2.3*

This new update has converted the CPL app into one of the most cluttered interfaces I’ve ever seen - which makes it almost as bad as the CPL website itself. It’s difficult to navigate, everything is all clumped together - or completely expanded so you have to endlessly scroll through. I really don’t want - or need - to scroll through individual photos of each book on my holds list. A clear, concise, streamlined itemized list is far more beneficial. Folks with reading disabilities or any sort of visual impairment are going to find this app extremely difficult to navigate. This is just another example of ableist design.

The scannable barcode has been removed altogether, so I have to manually type in my card number every time I check out books now - another disservice to anyone with visual or motor skills impairments.

There are no longer any blurbs or descriptions available on any of the book listings (at least none that I can easily find) so I have to access an external website to find out what a suggested book is actually about.

And there still isn’t a “Request Materials” function, so if there is a book/film/audiobook I’d like to recommend that the library should carry, I have to go rooting around on the website. (Because they’ve changed *that* too.)

It’s actually embarrassing how bad this app is considering it’s for a world-class library. The app didn’t *look* like much before, but it worked. And I’d much rather have an old-school app that works over an overly cluttered, unnecessarily expanded, ableist app.

### 1/5 — App?

*2020-09-27, version 2.3*

Scrolling scrolling scrolling.... i hate those megasized sites when endlessly have to scroll. Garbage. Previously app was perfect without fancy garbage!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love books

*2022-11-05, version 2.6.1*

App works great, easy sign in, user friendly

### 5/5 — Very convenient!

*2022-06-09, version 2.6.1*

I really like having a digital library card, as well as being able to access my borrowing deadlines from my phone.

### 5/5 — Better now

*2021-08-21, version 2.4*

Scratch my old review they finny updated it. Kinda wish there was an iPad viewing but it’s okay it’s not that annoying. Tysm CPL.

### 5/5 — Update

*2021-03-27, version 2.4*

Thank you for finally updating the app! It looks great and is so much better to use now!!

### 5/5 — Handy

*2019-10-24, version 1.4.3*

It’s really handy when you want to renew books

### 4/5 — Need ability to have multiple profiles

*2022-12-05, version 2.6.1*

Hoping next update includes ability to toggle between cards/profiles. Then I can add my kid’s cards and not have to sign out and log in everytime I need to change user.

### 4/5 — Great, functional, needs notifications.

*2022-07-27, version 2.6.1*

Looks and feels way better than it did last year. Smooth interface. Only thing it’s missing is notifications, so I don’t have to keep checking the app to see if my books are in.

### 4/5 — Works as intended

*2021-06-11, version 2.4*

For almost everything I use the app for, it works perfectly. The only thing I’d like is the ability to add my library card to apple wallet.

### 4/5 — 2021 review

*2021-03-09, version 2.4*

Good user interface, easy to search books hold them and what not, would love, notifications for iOS, but maybe I’m just missing something. Overall, worth it.

### 4/5 — Make an iPad version of the app

*2021-03-03, version 2.4*

That would be VERY useful. It’s quite annoying having some of my screen black and everything smaller than others.
