This little app comes in handy if you really want to make sure you are ready to take the test. I used the app for about a week off and on when I had down time. The test questions were pretty basic. There are many Improvements necessary. 1.) I’m clueless as to how it works 2.) You have no idea where you are in the testing, where you left off or how many more of the questions there are to answer. 3.) The same questions are repeated many times. Which is not necessarily a bad thing......but come on the same questions 5, 6, or 7 times is wasteful. 4.) I just finished the real test at the gun dealers and found some questions that I did not remember seeing in this app. All this is free on the internet so I feel a little rip off since I paid for this app and found is very lacking in substance. I gave the developers five stars for at least putting something out there. But come on people make it an excellent product not something we walk away from feeling that we were lied to. ### 5/5 — Successful outcome thanks to app. *2020-03-28, version 3.0.1* I hadn’t written the California FSC test since I purchased my first firearm a long time ago. Now I wanted to buy another with CoronaVirus bearing down on Southern California and many fun stores not even allowing people time to write it. As you may or may not know, the FSC test relies on many common sense questions as well as some very specific technical questions often having nothing to do with the type of weapon you are buying or have any experience with. And if you are unlucky and get more than a couple of these on the test you write could earn you an unlexpected failure and a 24 hour delay before you are allowed to write the test again pushing your 10 day waiting period out even longer. I downloaded this app and did the tests while I was standing in line at various gun stores waiting for a chance to get in. Yes. Some of the pictures were small but it’s great that this test is harder than the actual FSC test. For questions I got that I didn’t understand, I googled the subject and learned about it because I knew that could be a topic on the test I wrote. So I was able to pick up the gaps in my knowledge that even these odd topics were completely irrelevant to any gun I was going to buy, (black powder anyone?) were totally relevant to the questions that might be asked on the quiz. When I first started practicing with the app I was failing a fair percentage of the questions due to some of the odd unfamiliar questions that get included. Use the tests as a guide also to google the subjects you are unsure of so you remember them. I only used this app to prepare for the test and when I finally got into a store which had stock and was willing to let me write the test, I flew through the test and got 100%, recognizing many of the same questions. Best couple of bucks I have ever spent to ensure my family’s safety. Thank you! ### 5/5 — Incorrect info and poor photos!!- update required! *2020-03-13, version 3.0.1* Same with other reviewers - the long gun age requirement is 21 not 18 in CA. Photos of some of the weapons and details on them such as a question about a particular sight on a gun are of poor quality. They really need to be bigger and not tiny thumbnails! And please have someone with a better grasp of English write these questions and answers: “Rudely and firmly” as an answer for how to insert a magazine into a gun. Seriously?? That said I would absolutely recommend this app to review for the FSC test. Questions are divided into sections of 10 after which you will see how you scored. You are able to go back and review the questions answered incorrectly. In some of them you will see an explanation about the correct answer. New questions are added to each quiz while the rest of them will be repeats. Be careful as many questions use double negatives. Keep moving thru all the quizzes until you score 100 on every one of them and don’t keep seeing new questions. Even when I got every question right I would go back after and review the answers in preparation for the real test. Once you’ve done that - the actual FSC test should be easy. (It’s actually a little addicting - yto strive for that 100 grade after the 10th question). ### 5/5 — Passed 100% *2019-12-07, version 3.0.1* Got 30 out of 30 when I tested. Only thing off on the prep test is buyers need to be 21 to purchase rifles, not 18. Test was written only, no pictures on mine. Which is good cuz I wasn’t doing well with the differences on the single action/double action revolver questions 😄 ### 5/5 — A big help *2019-08-16, version 3.0.1* This app is great for a complete rookie (me). I really appreciate the extra information bundled in with the regular test questions. My one critique is that as of 2019, 18 year olds can no longer buy long guns and the app has not been updated to reflect this. There are so many erroneous questions. It was a waste of time and money. I did pass my test with only one wrong answer…it was one that I had answered correctly in a quiz, but this app told me I was wrong so I used their answer on my test. Turns out they were wrong, not me. The test is common sense. If you have some you’ll pass without this app. ### 1/5 — Irrelevant to the test *2020-10-28, version 3.0.3* The only benefit of this app was it increased my test anxiety. The test came right from the states study guide off the states website. This app had gun parts for long guns, ammo specifics, and other irrelevant info. Out of each 10 question quiz maybe 2 questions were similar to what was on the test. ### 1/5 — Don’t waste your money or time *2020-09-16, version 3.0.3* The questions do not make sense! The grammatical errors are too many to count. Do not buy! ### 1/5 — Dead App *2020-01-16, version 3.0.1* The developer for this app is no longer making improvements or changes at all. The questions are very limited, and not all content is covered. There’s maybe 30 different questions that get repeated over and over and some of them are completely wrong, like the current legal age for purchasing handguns in California which is 21, not 18. Would not recommend this app to anyone. *** I’m more than happy to change my review once I see improvements to the app. For now, I’ll be getting a refund. *** ### 2/5 — Problem in exit. *2024-12-27, version 3.0.3* The app will not let you exit and the only solution is to do a restart. However, I would have scored higher had the test questions been updated. The CA laws have changed, but the test has not been updated to reflect them. One in particular is that the age limit for long gun purchases is now 21 instead of 18. ### 4/5 — The app is overkill *2021-09-15, version 3.0.3* I learned from this app a lot, but a lot of it I found a bit of an overkill. The app is a little glitchy too, there’s times i review my answers and it says i marked some wrong when i know i never put those answers. Safe yourself some money, use the practice questions they give you in the handbook online for free. I ran through MANY of the quizzes on the app about 50 times until I kept getting no lower than 9/10. And even if I got them all right, i would review them all before moving on if there was a question I felt I got lucky on. I was genuinely really nervous to take mine and after practice for a few days on this app I was ready … I ACED it !! Most of the questions were right out of this practice App. Actually the tests in this app are way harder than the FSC. Take a couple tests a day until you’re getting consistent 9 or 10 out of 10 results and you’ll be good to go on the real thing.
