## What is Callsheet?

Have you ever wondered “who is that actor?”, or perhaps “when was this movie released?”, or “what was the title of that one episode of that show I love”? Maybe you're a film aficionado, and wonder “how old was this person when this movie was released”?

Have you wanted to answer those questions *without* being prompted to log in every five seconds? Without advertisements, and without auto-playing videos? Without relying on a multinational conglomerate that is trying to sell you things?

You'll love Callsheet.

Callsheet is the best way to quickly look up information about the cast and crew in TV and movies. It respects your time, doesn't try to sell you stuff you don't need, and is designed to answer your questions quickly and easily.

Callsheet also has some novel features that your previous favorite database app does not:

• Prevent spoilers when watching TV shows by optionally hiding character names, episode counts, episode titles, or episode thumbnails.
Don't let yourself get spoiled on a character's secret identity, or that they'll leave the show quickly, by hiding those hints.
• Quick access to trivia, Wikipedia, parental guidance, and where to watch (provided by JustWatch).
• Pin shows, movies, or people for quick access.
• Find things you've searched for before using recent searches and search history.
• Easily see the age of cast members *when a film was released* right inline with the cast list
• Easily see the age of a person for each entry in their filmography
• Easily see the height of actors (when possible)
• Dark mode support
• VoiceOver support
• Alternate app icons for subscribers
• Automatic, no-login integration with the wonderful Channels app
• Integration with Jellyfin and Plex via one-time login

Callsheet is written by one person, who REALLY cares about respecting your time. Callsheet is designed to let you drop in, find what you need with no fuss, and then get back to the movie or show you really care about. No distractions, and no requests to log in.

Callsheet offers 20 searches for free, and then requires a subscription. Subscriptions all come with a 1-week free trial. They support Family Sharing.

Give Callsheet a try. You won't believe how much better it is than the app you were using before.

### 2/5 — inaccurate information

*2026-07-24, version 2026.6*

A lot of movies show up as TV shows like Rooney Mara was in a movie called Mary Magdalene, but it's listed as a 60 episode TV show. It's really odd

### 5/5 — Fantastic app, delivers exactly the info I want, with zero grossness

*2026-07-23*

I used to use IMDB’s app which is fine but not well-designed, things I regularly want are hard to find, lots of little frustrations.
You can really tell this app scratches the author’s itch, each detail and feature is well thought-out, and it’s a pleasure to use.
I’ve long since deleted IMDB.

### 5/5 — Stunningly good!

*2026-07-20, version 2026.6*

Things I especially love about the app:

1. No ads!!
2. Uncredited cast members are included!
3. Actors’ ages at time of filming are included!
4. Actual release notes are included, vs. generic “bug fixes and improvements”!!

Clearly a labour of love, always being improved upon. Love it!

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2026-07-18, version 2026.5*

So fast and informative. I use Callsheet all the time. Helps me discover new things my favorite actors have done, even when they have credits from other countries and languages.

### 5/5 — The Essential Viewing Companion

*2026-07-05, version 2026.5*

This is a must-have app for any avid media consumer. Fast, clean, customizable to avoid spoilers—there’s no better way to look up details about the movie, episode, actor, crew for a piece of media than this.

### 5/5 — New Plex integration

*2026-07-04, version 2026.5*

I’m loving the new active Plex integration!

### 5/5 — Makes movies and TV better for me.

*2026-06-29, version 2026.5*

I love that Callsheet lets me quickly look up actors without spoiling things for me, and lets me pin things. I use the pins to schedule things to watch in the future, and the quickly access shows that I’m in a ongoing re-watch of to look up the guest stars.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2026-06-27*

Callsheet is an absolute joy to use and a must-have for any film and TV enthusiast. It’s beautifully designed, fast, and makes looking up cast and crew details a genuine pleasure. A brilliant, no-nonsense alternative to IMDb that respects your time and attention. The developer has done a fantastic job here, so thank you!

### 5/5 — Great app, so much better than browsing IMDB

*2026-06-27*

To get information about the movies & TV shows I watch I have had to search through Wikipedia pages for the material I want to see or worse yet, through the IMDB website.

This app brings all the info I want right to my screen. It is quick and I can pin the content I am actively watching to minimize searching until I am done with it.

The developer continues to add features to the app and is quite responsive to questions.

### 5/5 — Essential reference guide

*2026-06-24, version 2026.5*

With the best UX

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2026.7 — 2026-08-24

NEW FEATURES
- Now requires iOS 18.6+ and visionOS 2.6+
- Active Plex connections can show data from *all* of your servers, or, optionally, just one server
- Embiggened the search box to make it a little more visually obvious

IMPROVEMENTS
- Playback via Plex via Infuse is now shown in Now Playing
- On cold start, Callsheet tries to clean up any cached files more than a day old, to improve storage usage
- In Persnickety Preferences, you can also force a cleanup
- In the Control Centre widget, removed the redundant "Search" from the subtitle

BUG FIXES
- Fix rare case where an iCloud failure on startup could clobber the local pins cache
- Fix uncommon layout issue in the carousel for TV seasons with long names
- Prevent aggressive reloading of data for people, which among other things, prevents heights from disappearing
- Fix issue with AppleTV TV premieres showing the wrong date, particularly on the west coast of the US
- Fix issue with movie collections being hidden when one of the movies didn't have a release date
- Some defensive programming to prevent a crash-on-launch. (Nerds: I played fast and loose with an IUO, and I paid for it. Learn from my mistakes. IYKYK.)
- Fix issue with dates if the device is not using a Gregorian calendar
- Fix potential race conditions around pins (Nerds: class in question is now on MainActor)
- Fix rare case where fast-fingered users could lose Recents or History if they use the app before a full iCloud sync
- Fix rare case where images get stuck as unable to be loaded until the app is force-quit
- Improve cast list consistency for TV shows, particularly when loading via URL or deep link
- Fix top of search history pills being clipped on Discover
- Fix bug with cache bookkeeping
- Fix bug with app version number equality comparisons which is only used for some internal decision-making
- Fix bugs with Recent Searches & Search History that should hopefully fix some rare odd behaviours
- Fix potential hang in Channels integration
- Fix case where the wrong pin could be removed on-device
- Enable Passive Plex connections to be restarted once stopped
- Fix rare crash if UDP socket can't be created for Passive Plex connections
- Improved handling of Plex client names
- Fix some deprecation warnings
- Silence spurious log noise
- Fix crashes when a malformed callsheet:// URL is parsed
- Fix rare instance where a crash could happen if a user had no pin lists
- Fix issue where one bad Active Plex connection could prevent good ones from connecting
- Automatically restart stopped integrations
- Properly reload data if iCloud tells the app something has changed, but isn't specific about _what_ changed
- Fix rare case where loading and then insta-quitting could clear the last active pin list
- Prevent data races with all the Now Playing integrations (Nerds: they're all actors now)

### 2026.6 — 2026-07-14

NEW FEATURES
- Now Playing titles will be hoisted to the top of Known For lists when viewing people
- For Plex Active connections, you can now choose between which of *your* servers to connect to

IMPROVEMENTS
- Slightly more contrast behind Now Playing progress bars
- Backing from Search Results → Recent Searches now clears the search box
- Age ranges are redacted for shows where episode counts are hidden
- Some additional logging around Plex Active connections (these are only sent to me if YOU email them)

BUG FIXES
- Setting up a Plex Active connection now works when Callsheet is set to use the System Browser / Safari
- ⌘F works on iPad and macOS again

### 2026.5 — 2026-06-20

NEW FEATURES
- Callsheet now caches your pins, so if there's an issue with iCloud, that shouldn't cause you to [appear to] lose all your pins
- When you look at the details for a movie/show you're actively watching, Callsheet will show progress meters to indicate how far you are through that movie/show. Additionally, instead of showing the runtime, Callsheet will show when the item will end. (To see runtime and remaining time, tap on "Ends At")
- There are now two ways to get Plex information in Now Playing: Passive (the way it's always worked) or Active. To switch to Active mode requires logging into Plex, but is *far* more reliable for playback of local content.

IMPROVEMENTS
- Errors should be far less of an eyesore now
- When cold starting the app, while the Discover screen loads, it should rearrange what's on screen far less
- Better handle missing posters on Discover
- When copying an error report to the clipboard, the Callsheet deep link URL is included
- When viewing a TV show in Channels, jump to actual episode when tapping on an item in Now Playing, instead of just opening the show

BUG FIXES
- Fix issue where Callsheet would eagerly show an error of "cancelled" even when it shouldn't
- Fix scroll position when switching between Cast & Crew on iPad & Mac
- Fix uncommon issue where Callsheet would constantly lose Discover Sections and/or Region and/or Language settings
- Fix rare issue where Callsheet was showing people as pinned who… weren't pinned
- Fix rare issue where bonus free searches could be lost
- Fix a typo in Australian English

### 2026.4 — 2026-05-04

Callsheet version 2026.4 doesn't have a long list of changes, but what's there was A LOT of work. I'm very proud of it, but if you have any troubles, please feel free to use the in-app mechanism to send feedback.

NEW FEATURES
- All-new iPad landscape layout that makes far more efficient use of the space. This also applies to macOS and visionOS.
- Support for Jellyfin in the Now Playing view. Note that this does require authenticating with your Jellyfin server; see the Callsheet website for details.
- Added ability to copy a person's name or their role/job via context menu
- Localized the "Johnny Appleseed" and "Botanist" example name/job shown in Spoiler Settings. I tried to make these fun but if I missed the mark, let me know!

FIXES
- "Hide Spoilers…" button allows tapping in the whole button, rather than just where the text is
- No longer truncate titles/names in the Discover screen whenever possible
- In rare cases, using the chevron to page between movies in a collection could fail

### 2026.3 — 2026-04-10

NEW FEATURES
- Improved Shortcuts support: new Get Media, Get Media Videos, Get Pins, Perform Search actions. See the Callsheet website for documentation.
- Add search pagination. If you scroll to the bottom of the search results, more will be loaded if possible
- Now translated to Japanese & Korean
- "Thanks" is now optionally eliminated in a person's credits (along with "Self", that was already there)
- Added a Persnickety Preference to set a system-wide default value for "Include Self & Thanks"
- Added place of birth as a popover when tapping on a person's birth information

FIXES
- Add death information for people who were on a show during one year of their lives, but have since passed (the Ron Glass / Derrial Book bug)
- Make the Channels Now Playing integration work on IPv4-exclusive networks
- Fix edge case where some "Self" credits could slip through the filter
- Fix edge case where the popover for a person's height wouldn't show alternate units
- Fix edge case where the search scope button would disappear
- Fix edge case where a search via URL (callsheet://search) would perform a local rather than global search
- Tweak system spoiler settings presentation on iPad/Mac
- Performed audit of in-app purchase code to try to fix some really edgy edge cases
- Add some missing localizations both in-app and for Siri
- Fix minor issue in Italian localization
- Fix minor typos in Australian English
