### 2/5 — Needs updates

*2025-09-05, version 1.7.8*

This app is not keeping up with restaurant changes, menu changes, new products, etc.

### 3/5 — Love this app, but…

*2025-07-18, version 1.7.8*

I have been using this app for as long as it’s been available! Before the app, I used to check one out at my local library. I have type 1 diabetes & use it three or more times a week! Got a biscuit this morning & looked up the franchise to get the carb count & breakfast wasn’t even on there! Then went to the App Store to download an update & there hasn’t been an update in six years! Very disappointing.

### 3/5 — Calorie King

*2024-09-28, version 1.7.8*

The app is great, the information is amazing but the ads are absolutely atrocious.

### 2/5 — Stopped working

*2024-06-21, version 1.7.8*

Evidently this app is not supported. Suddenly went blank. Was good for awhile.

### 1/5 — Good concept but doesn’t work

*2024-06-16, version 1.7.8*

This app is a great idea but subscribing to remove ads doesn’t work and entering a quantity covers up the info with the number pad.

Fix your buggy app please, thanks!

### 4/5 — Well thought out, clean, clear lines

*2024-04-05, version 1.7.8*

I really like the "ControlMyWeight" and "Calorie King" apps. They are connected within the apps, and the subscription pages are the same. However, when you purchase an annual subscription for one app, it does not seem to apply to the second app. I have emailed customer support and am waiting for an answer from them.

### 4/5 — Ads?

*2024-01-22, version 1.7.8*

I love this app! I use it all the time. I only have one issue. Recently ads have appeared. I pay an annual subscription fee, yet suddenly ads are interrupting my use. I don’t think it is fair to start running ads on paid subscriptions. When will the ads stop?

### 1/5 — I thought this was supposed to be the best…?

*2023-12-09, version 1.7.8*

I just downloaded this to track carbs for my son with T1D. It was recommended by the hospital. The first three foods I tried to scan (products by huge national brands) could not be found. Deleting the app.

### 2/5 — Complete failure

*2023-12-02, version 1.7.8*

We pay a subscription fee. We still get ads. The search system is awful.

I trust the nutrition data. I’m dad to a T1.

### 3/5 — Very simple.

*2023-07-06, version 1.7.8*

Does not have the capability to save favorites.

### 4/5 — Not working with Android anymore

*2023-05-24, version 1.7.8*

I’m a diabetes educator and love this app. It is a great tool for counting carbs however it’s no longer available for downloading with Android phones. We are having our patients download other apps but we prefer the simplicity of this app.

### 3/5 — Please update your nutrition information

*2023-03-07, version 1.7.8*

I am a type one diabetic and I trust your app, but the information is outdated I just got 18 units instead of 14 because the carbs were off. Please I just want to help I know a lot of type one diabetics use this app. I’m just try to make sure the info is correct

### 2/5 — Great info and easy but…..

*2023-03-03, version 1.7.8*

Lately there has been a black screen popping up while using the app saying my storage is almost full and then it automatically open my App Store. What’s going on???

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2023-02-26, version 1.7.8*

This app was working fine and now it’s not I keep getting failed to obtain access token (502) I never had a problem with it and now I am PLEASE FIX THIS

### 2/5 — Purchased version still has ads!

*2023-01-07, version 1.7.8*

I pay monthly for the ad free version, yet I constantly have to watch an ad and then "restore purchases" to get rid of the ads! Not happy with an otherwise useful app.

### 2/5 — Jell-O?

*2022-08-26, version 1.7.8*

The second thing I tried to look up was Sugar Free Jell-O. No matches found!!!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — overly simplistic database that is almost not usable

*2026-07-14, version 1.7.8*

First, the UI is abysmal. Any reasonable programmer should be able to make it a little bit more appealing it seems. But the main issue is the database search function. I tried to search for McDonald’s fries, and it could not find even that there is no flexibility to go general and then dig down into more details, evidently you needed to enter in exactly the format of the data entry, which in this case is McDonald’s fries, small. This app puts a bad name to the old calorie king books, which I have used in the past.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-03-15, version 1.7.8*

The search feature does not work. Only generates a blank screen. Canceling subscription.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-02-26, version 1.7.8*

When you put in a search it doesn’t load.

### 1/5 — Update

*2025-11-29, version 1.7.8*

Update please

### 1/5 — Terrible do not get.

*2025-08-08, version 1.7.8*

This app was great at first but then I started looking at the menus of restaurants and the menus showed different carb numbers then calorie king and I trust the menus more then this app because the people who made the menus actually know the correct carb amount.

### 1/5 — Barcode scan is not available/ working

*2025-04-24, version 1.7.8*

I tried scanning a barcode on a box of Costco muffins to find the carbohydrate count on a single muffin. Seeing as Costco doesn’t add this info and as a diabetic accurate carbohydrate and insulin amounts matter… As stated above the scan did not work, don’t waste your time on download this, just go to google and search there, it may be a few minutes searching but at least it’s more accurate.

### 1/5 — Asking For More Money

*2025-04-21, version 1.7.8*

I’ve had this app when it was for $8.99. In other words, years ago. And because I don’t purchase much stuff from the App Store, I can still see the when I paid for it and how much it was. It’s now asking me to pay again but for no ads. I’m not paying twice for the same app with the same functions I’ve had for years. Total money scam.

### 1/5 — Leave the ads out

*2025-03-12, version 1.7.8*

I’ve used this app for a very long time but I’m not renewing it. Too many ads even though I pay for the app. The ads are annoying and you can’t get out of them.
Please change this.

### 1/5 — Stay away.

*2024-07-28, version 1.7.8*

Developers do NOTHING to fix problems with the app. You cannot select a monthly or yearly subscription. The pop up window has BOTH selected so you cannot select either!!! Great programming!!!!

### 1/5 — Calorie King

*2024-06-21, version 1.7.8*

Don’t purchase this app…you cannot get support from their help line. I have written to them in reference to trying to log in and getting an error message about the site and have received a response that they are working on it. It has been three weeks and they are still working on it and more subscriptions is running down.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — T1D

*2026-03-03, version 1.7.8*

I love this app But all I really want to say is that I recently got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes which was terrible so I love all of you who have that because it is hard good luck

### 5/5 — Great app so far.

*2023-11-30, version 1.7.8*

Has all the places we eat and saves time.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2023-11-02, version 1.7.8*

What a really great app for diabetics. I’ve just started using it and find it very useful, though I do think it’s time to update the database.
Thanks for your work.

### 5/5 — App icon

*2023-02-24, version 1.7.8*

My icon went away and you give no option for me to reinstate it. Being diabetic I would much rather count carbs than calories. Can you help me?

### 5/5 — Very accurate so far

*2022-07-10, version 1.7.8*

I’m a type one diabetic. So I use this app to base how much medicine I should give myself with almost every meal. I used this app to lower my a1c from 10 to 7.4
Thank you so very much for creating this app guys and especially making it for free ♥️ I’d happily watch these ads.

### 5/5 — Great until iOS 14 update

*2020-09-30, version 1.7.7*

Use this app all the time for help carb counting for daughter with type 1 diabetes. Worked amazingly well until iOS 14 update. Now can’t see numbers I type in for amount, although nutrition information does change. I’m constantly double checking though, which makes the app a little pointless until this is fixed, please. I even tried deleting and reinstalling. No change.

### 5/5 — CalorieKing

*2020-08-14, version 1.7.6*

I love this app as I am a type 2 diabetic & use the app for not only calories but mainly for watching my carb intake which was highly based on a class I took & the carb counter helps me base the # of units of insulin I need to take.

I went out to open the CalorieKing App to ck on a Particular Restaurant where I bought lunch plus to add the carbs so I could see how much insulin to take based on my lunch.

My app would not open at all, it would show the Face Page but would not open in any of the categories, I tried to reinstall the app but that didn’t work either, I’ve used this app for a very long time so please let me know how to fix it, I’m 75 so make it easy for me PLEASE.

I want my app CalorieKing back.

### 5/5 — Life-Saving App!!!

*2019-12-14*

I find it insane that anyone can find it in themselves to put dumb nit-picks in their reviews. As a Type 1 Diabetic, this makes my life 1000% easier. Who cares if there are some slight bugs or (sparse) ads? It has an insanely large food library and it’s free. You can change units and put how much your food weighs. You can also browse by fast food chain (which pretty much includes all restaurants regardless of if they’re actually fast food) and also by brand. It’s super easy to use and it really one of the best apps I’ve ever used! Definitely download it if you’re diabetic, or even if you’re not and are just trying to watch your carb, calorie or fat intake. Wish I could give this app 10 stars!!!

### 5/5 — Love it!! But...

*2019-06-01*

I love this app for my daughter who is T1 diabetic. It’s convenient being on her phone and has just about everything, for the most part. I realize it’s difficult to have everything out there but I was a bit surprised when we couldn’t find any info from on McDonalds shakes. I know it sounds trivial but we use this app for carbs for her and I just fed McDonalds shakes are a permanent staple always have been

Otherwise. This is a great app!!!

### 5/5 — TYPE 1 too.

*2018-08-27, version 1.7.3*

I finally found your app again after loosing you years ago.

Being a type 1, you’re able to make things easier for me . I am one of the longest living type 1s out there. I’ve had it for 60 years. So thank you again!
