### 3/5 — App being retired 10/25

*2025-10-20, version 3.21.8477*

The app is okay but it’s going away soon. Also, it’s more expensive to buy a ticket using this app than using the clippercard app.

### 2/5 — Caltrain great, app not

*2025-07-16, version 3.21.8477*

The app lacks basic functionality. For example, if you view a timetable and then leave the app and go back, the timetable resets rather than remember you last settings.

### 4/5 — Great App!

*2025-06-25, version 3.20.7899*

The app is perfect for buying parking passes and getting the schedule! I just wish the timetable feature was more integrated into the app itself and allowed to save your station preferences.

### 2/5 — Integration with PayPal doesn't work

*2025-06-10, version 3.20.7899*

The app is practically useless since the integration with PayPal malfunctions. I restarted using the app after several years, logged out of PayPal, logged back in again and was assured that the connection worked. Then tried to purchase a ticket and the purchase failed twice. Had to buy the ticket at the station

### 4/5 — Minor tweaks and it would be great

*2025-02-26*

This app should show on startup “next train to where you usually go” (express or not indicated somehow) from “nearest station to me now”, as I really don’t need to fiddle with 5 clicks to view a 6point font schedule for every station.

Other than that, the app is good. I deeply appreciate being able to buy tickets on my phone vs the ye olde fighting some 1990s machine at a station

### 3/5 — Could be a lot better

*2024-09-12*

Just like the electrification overhaul, the app could use one too.
1. A better parking map for each station
2. The option to save my station preferences since I’m logged in (Caltrain should gather data anonymously to see how many people use the same stations every day)
3. The live map can optionally ask for my location so that I can see which train I’m in and track stations in real time.
4. Modernize it and make it more user friendly. C’mon, you’re in Silicon Valley!

### 3/5 — Can’t buy tix w/in a single zone

*2024-09-04, version 3.20.7899*

The app worked great until one day it suddenly stopped allowing tickets to be purchased for travel within a single zone. Caltrain please fix this!!!

### 4/5 — Can’t purchase a ticket if you’re in the same zone

*2024-09-02, version 3.20.7899*

Recently, if purchasing a ticket within the zone you’re departing from, the app won’t allow you to choose a stop within the same zone. Other than that, this app is a must have!

### 2/5 — Unnecessarily cumbersome for ticket purchase

*2024-03-12, version 3.20.7899*

I want to buy a ticket in-app, but why do I have to register with yet another site? I no longer feel safe entrusting my payment information with just any random site. It’s completely unnecessary. Here’s the seamless experience I would love. Select the tickets I want, just like in the app today. In the cart, click Apple Pay (no app registration needed). When payment is processed, show the ticket QR Code in-app, with an Add to Apple Wallet button. Ticket appears in-app and in my wallet for easy retrieval when requested. The app lives in the iOS ecosystem, has a low barrier for entry (no registration) and is completely secure (all payment and personal information stays on my phone).

### 3/5 — Does not sell tickets

*2024-01-06, version 3.20.7899*

The Caltrain Mobile app talks all about how you can buy tickets digitally and yet there’s nowhere to buy tickets on the app. There used to be, however the last few times I’ve used Caltrain I checked the app and cannot find anywhere to buy tickets even though it still talks about being able to buy them digitally. What happened?

### 4/5 — Good when it works

*2023-09-28*

Update: since my last review, the app started working most of the time and it’s a big help when it works. But recently I can no longer get the real time update for the mountain view station. Wonder why.

——-previous review

Just downloaded the app yesterday and it worked when I tested at home. But I wasn’t able to use at the station. Kept on getting error messages of not being able to reach server and it asked to check internet connection. It looks like the app doesn’t work with cellular data. Not sure why. Such a frustrating experience. Almost late for the train yesterday. I was able to replicate the error at home by turning off wifi. All other apps works with cellular data and I checked setting to make sure this app is set to work with cellular data. Not sure what to do now. Please help.

### 3/5 — Ok

*2023-09-25, version 3.20.7899*

This app is sow dumb it doesn’t tell if the train is switch Kains or not

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Moronic app

*2025-08-28, version 3.21.8477*

The app is OK but it is stupid that any ticket you buy goes into effect immediately. So basically you cannot buy a ticket in advance. But the app does not tell you that the ticket will be in use immediately. It's only $20 but how stupid.

### 1/5 — NO TICKET

*2025-01-14, version 3.20.7899*

I BOUGHT TWO TICKETS ON THIS THIEF OF AN APP AND IT DOESNT POP UP. WHAT A HORRIBLE SERVICE THAT CALIFORNIA PROVIDES

### 1/5 — Can’t open train timetable

*2024-11-27, version 3.20.7899*

I tap train time table and I get pictures. This new app is useless. The old app worked fine.

### 1/5 — Schedule Isn’t Updated Like Website

*2024-11-12, version 3.20.7899*

Using the Caltrain website is the only way to know the most accurate schedule since the schedule through the app doesn’t correctly show all trains scheduled.

### 1/5 — Annoying Splash Screen

*2024-11-06, version 3.20.7899*

The splash screen takes forever. What is the point of it, anyway? It’s just a waste of the user’s time.

### 1/5 — What?

*2024-05-27, version 3.20.7899*

It wants me to login? Just to view a schedule. And then when I choose to view the schedule, it opens a browser to pull up the Caltrain website? Sorry. This was a good app. No more though.

### 1/5 — Broken app

*2024-03-13, version 3.20.7899*

App fails to make it past the loading screen, ends up with a message saying that it can’t load and to delete and reinstall the app. Tried that along with reboots and iOS updates and still no joy. Looks like this has been a recurring and or ongoing problem for quite a while, surprised that it hasn’t been fixed yet.

### 1/5 — App is really buggy

*2023-10-19, version 3.20.7899*

I downloaded the app and when I tried to look at my active tickets I could see them I only saw in products was stored and transaction history.

### 1/5 — Just Webviews

*2023-09-17, version 3.20.7899*

If I wanted to use the website I’d use the website.

### 1/5 — The app won’t launch past the loading screen

*2023-09-01, version 3.20.7899*

What’s the point of an app if it can’t get past its fancy loading screen so you can pay for a parking ticket????

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I use the Caltrain App everyday!!

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2025-09-10, version 3.21.8477*

My first time to buy tickets from the App, easy to use, add payments, buy tickets. No complain at all. I love the thing that I don't need to remember to clip off when getting off, if I use clipper card.

### 5/5 — New commuter

*2025-05-16*

I’ve been using Caltrain for my commute and overall it’s been a practical and a positive experience. I appreciate being able to avoid the stress of the highways during rush-hour. Having Wi-Fi on the train is great. The cleanliness of most cars makes the decision easy. The only thing I think would be that sometimes it can be a bit crowded, but it is manageable. Overall, great option to commute if you’re considering it as part of your routine.

### 5/5 — Reliable, Functional, Intuitive

I take the train down to San Jose from Millbrae everyday. The app makes it really to buy tickets and passes as well as provide links to the schedule. Whether you’re a tourist or a regular traveler this app is very easy and useful to use.
