## What is Calvin?

Calvin is an AI-powered calorie tracker that keeps the basics free.

Barcode scanning and food search are free here. Most trackers moved them behind a subscription. Calvin does not.

FREE, AND STAYING FREE
- Barcode scanning for packaged food
- Food database search, USDA Branded with Open Food Facts as a fallback
- Manual logging with full macros: protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sugar, sodium
- Common foods, recents and usuals, one tap to log again
- Copy yesterday's whole log when today is empty
- Recipes
- Weight tracking with a smoothed trend line
- Adaptive maintenance calories, back-calculated from your real weight trend so imperfect logging self-corrects against the scale
- Apple Health sync: weigh-ins from a smart scale arrive on their own, with body-fat and lean-mass trends when your scale reports them
- A direct Google Health connection
- Sleep, HRV, resting heart rate and a daily recovery score
- Weekly and monthly recaps, and your year in review
- Home and Lock Screen widgets
- An Apple Watch app and complication: calories left, every macro you track, and recovery at a glance
- Siri and Shortcuts
- CSV export

NO ACCOUNT NEEDED, NO ADS
Sign-in is optional and can be skipped. Everything above works without one, and your food log lives on your phone, not on a server. Linking Apple or Google is optional and does not upload or restore your food log; your log stays on your phone.

LOGGING IN UNDER FIVE SECONDS
Type a food name and everything you have logged before appears as you type. One tap logs it again. A built-in pantry handles staples like egg or apple with no keypad at all.

READ AGAINST YOUR OWN USUAL, NOT A TEXTBOOK
Sleep, HRV, resting heart rate and the rest are judged against your own recent range, so a number that is normal for you stays quiet. A recovery score sits at the top of the Health tab, blended from HRV, resting heart rate, sleep and breathing rate, with one sentence naming whichever of them actually moved it.

HONEST NUMBERS
Calories lead, macros sit behind them, and you choose which ones appear anywhere in the app. Turn calorie numbers off entirely for a gentler on-track-or-over view.

CALVIN PLUS
An AI meal photo scan that reads a whole plate into separate foods, counts the cooking oil a camera cannot see and asks before it stays, and takes a one-tap fix or a missing item without starting over, plus deeper insights. Monthly and annual plans are shown in your local App Store currency, with a 3-day free trial.

Everything listed above stays free.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.9 — 2026-09-10

Improved reliability for optional app-usage sharing and privacy controls, including retrying after you reconnect and deleting previously shared usage data. Also fixes an issue where closing the app immediately after logging food or confirming an edit could lose the change.

### 1.0.8 — 2026-09-09

Build 186 updates privacy wording, localized App Store metadata, and regional storefront screenshots.

### 1.0.7 — 2026-09-04

A security improvement: a couple of network calls carried device credentials in a way that could end up in server logs. They now travel more safely. No visible change to how the app works.

Also: a couple of spots on the Fitness and Health tabs still said "Fitbit" after the previous update's rename to Google Health. Fixed.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-09-03

Connecting Google Health is now free for everyone — syncing your steps, activity and weigh-ins from it is still a Calvin Plus feature, but linking the account no longer requires a subscription.

Behind the scenes: the server behind AI photo scanning, Smart Log and Google Health syncing moved to a faster backend. No change to what data is collected or how it's used.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-09-02

• Small polish and reliability improvements under the hood
