*2016-12-17, version 1.7.0*

### 1/5 — Disappointed in video quality

*2016-09-23, version 1.7.0*

Terrible quality of recordings compared to the features of the vixia camera hf r72. The app should allow the camera to have its screen set.
I Tried recording to both my phone and iPad and expected lower quality there. But the recording on the camera it self was terrible compared to manual operation.

Please allow us to use the camera settings for scenes, framing etc!!!

*2015-11-17, version 1.6.2*

*2015-07-14, version 1.6.2*

### 1/5 — Human

*2015-05-14, version 1.6.2*

Selected & Bought R50 camcorder & CT-V1 pan table specifically for the remote control & remote monitoring capability. Figuring you can't go wrong with OEM gear from a major maker like Canon. Like the other reviewers, the wireless connection was established only for a few seconds and the camcorder cannot be reconnected again. Another piece of junk in my recycling bin. Should have read the feedback before purchase.

*2015-05-09, version 1.6.2*

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2015-05-01, version 1.6.2*

The Wi-Fi ID of my camcorder appears for about two seconds in my iPhone's Wi-Fi settings and then disappears. Then the app never recognizes my camcorder. I spent good money on the camcorder in order to be able to remotely control it with this app. So far, I have been nothing but frustrated and totally disappointed. What a waste! The only reason it's getting one star is because it has to be rated at wall in order to be able to send this message.

### 1/5 — Unbrauchbar

*2015-03-07, version 1.6.2*

Stürzt ständig ab nach ca 10-30 Sekunden

### 1/5 — No manual on how to use...

*2015-02-19, version 1.6.2*

I own the Canon XF-205 and have it set-up correctly on my wi-fi network. Unfortunately, their support documentation is terrible. Went to their website and the information they have is embarrassing. Better documentation is a must. I can’t believe they put this out there.

### 1/5 — crashes every time on 4S

*2015-02-07, version 1.6.2*

This will only run for about 10 seconds on my iphone 4s before it crashes!!! makes my canon wireless pan base useless!!! Wish they offered another app that works, or an older version that would work on my phone or ipad.

### 1/5 — App quits on iPhone 4

*2014-11-30, version 1.5.0*

Features sound nice, but app keeps crashing while camera monitoring is in progress. Happens during monitor at home and monitor while away. I had better luck temporarily using an iPhone 6.

*2014-09-15, version 1.5.0*

### 1/5 — Nicht wirklich brauchbar

*2014-08-02, version 1.5.0*

Handling: was einfach aussieht ist fast einfach.

Dann wieder Video, dann wieder stillstand.

Dadurch ist die App nicht zu gebrauchen.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2014-06-22, version 1.0.14*

What to much lag to be useful and to hard to hook to wifi
6 sec lag time between iPad and R52
Yet another, lets getting out there then worry about it not working .

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-06-05, version 1.7.1*

Apparently Canon had Pixela develop the app so Canon doesn’t claim responsibility for the fact that it doesn’t work despite the fact that this was a major selling point for the HF R*2 series of camcorders.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2020-11-23, version 1.7.1*

Tried everything from A to Z and nothing worked with my canon vixia.

### 1/5 — Does not work with IPhone 12

*2020-10-26, version 1.7.1*

A junk app that is described in the Canon owner manual for their Vixia HF R62 camcorder. A waste of time.

### 1/5 — Canon vixia hf r82 hd

*2018-10-27, version 1.7.1*

Got it to connect to my iPhone once and never got it to connect to my iPad. This app doesn't work and is a waste of time. Deleted!

### 1/5 — Junk

*2018-09-18, version 1.7.1*

App does not work

### 1/5 — Buyer Beware

*2018-09-15, version 1.7.1*

This version DOES NOT SUPPORT iOS11. According to Canon

### 1/5 — Mise à jour requis

*2018-07-10*

Wake up

### 1/5 — Unreliable

*2018-03-03, version 1.7.1*

The camcorder is connected to the home WiFi, the iOS device (I’ve tried iPhone and iPad) are connected to the WiFi...but the device cannot connect to the camera??? Sometimes it will, most times it will not. Because usage is unreliable is why I give it one star. Also, the delay between what the camera shows and what’s on your remote device causes some issues if you’re trying to follow movement.

### 1/5 — Complete disappointment

*2017-10-31, version 1.7.1*

I can’t make it sync with camera. Total failure.

### 1/5 — Only connected once

*2017-06-06, version 1.7.1*

I was so excited about having the ability to remotely zoom in and out while videoing my online course. Purchased the Vixia HF R80 just for this feature. I was only able to connect once. After that no matter what sequence or scenario I tried, my the app would not connect even when I was connected manually through my iPhone settings. Such a HUGE disappointment!!!

## Most praised reviews (6 highest-rated)

*2021-05-02, version 1.7.1*

### 5/5 — Great App

*2017-12-03, version 1.7.1*

I am not sure why there are so many own reviews. We use two Canons and Two apps to record college volleyball matches for scouting and stats. We use it at least 3 times a week for 16 weeks. Never ever had an issue.

### 5/5 — Using "Monitor from Home" mode - works great

*2016-04-16, version 1.7.0*

I am using the "Monitor from Home" option with this app, and my Canon Vixia HF R52. Phone is iPhone 6s+. This works great. I would like to see an option that lets me livestream broadcast using Vixia video camera as source, directly to Facebook Live and YouTube live. Other apps are doing this for other cameras. I would pay for this app feature. Please contract me regarding this. I am a software engineer.

Here's how I connected my phone to the Vixia using the Monitor from Home option:

On Vixia, in recording mode, choose the top left home menu button. On that screen, choose the "Remote Control+Streaming" menu. Button image for this menu looks like a smartphone. It should be on the right. Tap that button or slide to bring that button to the center of menu. Tap it (phone icon) again to enter into the Remote Control+Streaming menu.

Now there are 3 options on the left: "Monitor from Home", monitor remotely, and options. Tap "Monitor from Home". Follow instructions on that screen, which says to connect your phone's wifi to the Vixia's wifi on your phone. Note: unless you are connected to a mobile network, this will disable the Internet on your phone. You will need to verify your phone connects back to your regular internet wifi after your Vixia connection is ended.

On your phone, go to the wifi menu and it should display the Vixia wifi. Connect to that wifi using the credentials displayed on the Vixia "Monitor from Home" screen. On the Vixia "Monitor from Home" screen, it should say "Connected".

Now open the free "CameraAccess plus" app on your phone. Under "Monitor from Home", tap the Start button. It may flash a "searching" notice but quickly you should see an entry on the app screen that says "[OK]". Tap that and you should see the real-time video of your Vixia displayed on your phone.

### 3/5 — HF R50

*2018-06-25, version 1.7.1*

I just purchased a used (but unused) HF R50. I did the typical Google searches prior to buying and knew going in that there was a lag with wi-fi playback.

I downloaded this app knowing that with the micro SD card that wi-fi features probably wouldn’t ever be needed. It serves a useful purpose but in all reality, I’m going to be inserting the micro SD card into my computer to save videos and to send videos!

Though it probably doesn’t reach the acceptability of those that might use the features, it does for those of us that use it as a bonus feature, because we don’t rely on the app for day to day uses.

### 3/5 — App works

*2014-05-26, version 1.0.14*

This app works at 60i due to the bandwidth limits of 2.4ghz wifi (tested with r50). The lag leaves something to be desired and I'd have placed the wifi external by adapter to allow easy upgrade to 5ghz with an hdmi video feed( more than 300mb stream). However, for making minute adjustments to pan and other settings, this is a great app. Great for my current purpose. Ease of use leaves something to be desired (changing exposure settings etc).

### 2/5 — Poor functionality

*2015-03-25, version 1.6.2*

Zoom controls are unresponsive. The camera does not actually zoom while you are touching them; instead it zooms afterward. Display on the iPhone does not shift to "landscape" when you turn the phone, unlike almost every other app. On this app it would be helpful, because the dispaly would then match that of the camcorder. Why can't Canon make a simple little cheap remote control that zooms and turns the camcorder on/off, which is all this does? Who needs the creepy "monitor while not home" function?
