### 4/5 — Best Writing Tool

*2026-08-18*

I really really like this app and the rest of Campfire. The team is awesome and the functionality is exactly what I was looking for. I've even bought extra modules because I use it so much. The only thing keeping me from giving it a full five stars is the lack of an offline mode/saving issues. I've lost whole chapters sometimes because it glitched while saving. I'm really careful to not even navigate away from the app while it's saving but I lost another chunk today while working on wifi. I updated my app and hopefully that fixes the problem. It's my only note on an otherwise awesome program.

### 2/5 — No native iPad app

*2026-06-11, version 1.3.0*

I truly don’t understand how an app designed for serious writing isn’t iPad compatible. Very disappointing

### 4/5 — Good, but needs a few changes

*2026-05-04*

Overall a perfect app for organizing thoughts. Pretty easy to use but a bit limiting. For example, you cannot create your own modules. I tried to create a race module because I wanted different information to be in the species and culture tabs. You cannot create custom attributes for some of the modules either. They do a super good job making sure you have a lot of what you’d already need, but it would be nice to be able to name and create your own things and put sliders/text/numbers in yourself. Plus, the numbers option (like for weight or age) is a bit limited. You can only put a number and no characters. So I can’t put 5’5 feet or 1-4 offspring. You can work around this a BIT but less restriction would be nice. Otherwise, good app. Love all the options they put in already

### 3/5 — More languages !!

*2026-05-02, version 1.2.13*

Please do a version in French or other many languages 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

### 4/5 — IM LOWKEY ADDICTED

*2026-05-01*

ok so i've needed somewhere to put all my character + story info for a LONG time. i used to organize it in a discord server but this app has made it SO much more convinient. i love that there are SO many types of elements of the story you can log. and each of those have even more details!! i do have some minor issues with recommendations though... FIRST, i really wish there was something to log a sickness/virus that is unique to your story. its a bug part of mine and it would be really cool to have a slot for that. SECOND i kinda wish there was some place where you could see all your elements mapped out and connected, not just in a list. THIRD. the coloring system. its a little janky. i'd like if you could just make palletes instead of having to pass through the default one and the wheel to get to your saved colors. LASTLY. just a few technical issues or glitches, the app can be slow to change colors or other aspects of elements and stuff. OKAY THATS IT. THAT STUFF ASIDE, I LOVE THIS APP ITS SO SO FUN RAAA !!!

### 2/5 — iPad functionality?

*2026-04-30, version 1.2.13*

This app is really great. I just wish it worked better on an IPad. My option is see is the size of a phone screen or use it in the browser. Both defeat the purpose of using the app with my iPad.

### 3/5 — one thing missing

*2026-04-21, version 1.2.13*

i love campfire! great for writing but it would be 10/10 if the scene went sideways. i like writing with the screen vertical too but horizontal just feels better. other then that i love it!

### 3/5 — Almost good

*2026-03-22, version 1.2.13*

The app seems like it would be good, if it had proper tablet support. It's stuck in a phone's screen ratio, and when I write with an apple pencil, the editing tools that are usually at the top of the keyboard get stuck in the middle of the screen, effectively making it so that I can't write more than a paragraph or two.

### 3/5 — Would be great if it didn’t crash

*2026-03-16*

The versatility of the app is great. Good for staying organized and easy to jump into to jot down ideas. Unfortunately, the app crashes CONSTANTLY you will lose work you thought was safe and it is very frustrating. Happened almost every time I switch between two projects. Desktop app is much better. I may switch to a different platform if they can’t fix this issue soon.

### 2/5 — Good. But disappointed

*2026-03-07*

I really like campfire a lot. Especially the app on the PC and it looks good enough on my phone for quick stuff, but when I’m writing on my iPad Pro its a bit disappointing because it still keeps it in that phone sort of mode where it takes up less than half the screen. I really wish the iPad version of the app was more like the desktop app so that when I’m writing on my lunch break or something I can just open the app and start writing more easily without being connected to the internet. Hoping that they are working on something, but either way this is still a great resource for writers like me.

### 2/5 — How about an offline version for travel? Also fix the login!

*2026-02-22, version 1.2.11*

How about making an offline mode for those who are traveling? Other apps and services have that and it seems a useful thing to have. Also need to fix sync and add the ability to pull photos from other locations than your device.

### 3/5 — Good but lots of glitches

*2026-01-30, version 1.2.6*

It’s a great concept except it glitches any time I try to edit an attribute it’ll not work so I can only fill in half the items on my list…

### 3/5 — Good just a lil annoying

*2026-01-28, version 1.2.6*

You can’t rearrange the timeline events every time you try to, the moment you click out and back in, all the timeline prices are jumbled up again as well as you can’t name timelines. Just little annoying things

### 4/5 — Glitch

*2026-01-25*

Every time I try to add a “Manuscript” attribute, it kicks me out of the app and sends me back to my home screen. This only recently started, but I’ve been using campfire for about a year now, and it’s awesome, but it never did this before and this is a persistent problem. I don’t know if it’s just my phone or what; I dont believe it’s my phone because it’s fully updated. But please find a way to fix this! Thank you!!!!

### 2/5 — How about an offline version for travel? Also fix the login!

*2026-01-15*

How about making an offline mode for those who are traveling? Other apps and services have that and it seems a useful thing to have. Also tried logging in and it was like jumping through hoops or having teeth pulled! Fix it!!

### 4/5 — Suggestion

*2026-01-10*

When making characters, there should be an option to apply all attributes to all characters. So if you did like 44 attributes for one character and you don’t want to have to apply all 44 manually, you should be able to apply those same ones to that character.

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2026-01-02, version 1.1.32*

I like this app a lot! But sometimes it’ll reset all my stories and I can’t get them back.

### 3/5 — Used to be great

*2025-12-06*

Simple enough, this app used to work great, the title bar of extra key board keys was a little glitchy but hey it was there. The update to streamline it has taken away the buttons I used the most with no way to bring them back that I can tell, and now I feel like it updates and misses what I’m typing and jumps to the top every time now, kind of hard to catch a good flow is the app can’t even keep up.

### 2/5 — It’s nice but needs iPad compatibility

*2025-10-22, version 1.1.27*

I like campfire and I like using the site cause the layout looks nice. But downloading the app on my phone makes little sense. I mostly do my writing on my laptop or iPad since I have a Bluetooth keyboard.

### 4/5 — Wonderful! Just one thing…

*2025-06-17*

This has helped me SO much with my book writing, and I DEFINITELY recommend this app. One thing, though: if an app can feel claustrophobic, this one does. Seeing as this is an unpaid app, that’s completely understandable. I would just suggest a homepage and an iPad screen. But don’t let my words become a dealbreaker for you, because I still 100% recommend Campfire for your books.

### 3/5 — iPad

*2025-06-02, version 1.1.17*

How many reviews requesting the interface update for how many years? please add this

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — THIS IS A SCAM COMPANY

*2026-03-15*

The product is great, but if you subscribe it is genuinely the hardest service to unsubscribe from by design.

There is no way to manage your account payments in the app, and no option for it online either. I went through their help page and even that did not give a real answer and directed toward menu options that didn’t exist. I only got to the page after guessing the URL.

Then, while trying to cancel they place a popup to try and entice you to stay with a discount, and the UI intentionally makes it so you cannot click the button to cancel. It took me 20 minutes of adjusting text size to make it work.

Maybe it is doable on a computer, but if you are working off of a phone, DO NOT SUBSCRIBE unless you plan on never changing it for the rest of your life.

It’s a bummer too, as the product seems good and I liked some of the payment options, but the insane cancelation process is genuinely predatory and I lost all the goodwill I had toward this company.

The product is nice, the company is a scam.

**Developer response:** Hello,

The app is free. I'm not sure how you would have subscribed to any paid plan from the app seeing as that is not possible. The web/desktop program has a paid plan, and cancelation can be done from that web/desktop interface, in the same place that you subscribed to the paid plan.

If there is any confusion, don't hesitate to reach out to our team as we are happy to help!

### 1/5 — iPad Support

*2026-03-08, version 1.2.11*

I would like you to add iPad Support to this app since I feel like a lot of people would like to use it on a device like an iPad to write. Also it can be used to help with creativity with the Apple Pencil as well.

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2026-01-18, version 1.2.1*

I was able to use the app just fine but after the update I can’t even open a character profile or chapter without it completely shutting down and kicking me out of the app. I really liked the app and all the stuff in it but literally cannot use it.

### 1/5 — Ipad version

*2025-12-16, version 1.1.32*

Really wish there was a proper iPad version. I want to switch to campfire so I can work writing on the go and seamlessly swap between computer and Ipad.

### 1/5 — No upload option for documents?!

*2025-08-20, version 1.1.23*

If it’s there it’s so unclear I can’t waste more time on this.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2025-07-03, version 1.1.17*

All my writing was deleted and I don’t know how to recover it. It’s disgusting

### 1/5 — iPad functionality

*2025-04-11, version 1.1.15*

Whilst I love campfire on my pc, sometimes I have ideas or want to write when I’m not at home, so the app is great in theory but I often use my iPad when I’m away to write and the app is essentially unusable on an iPad/tablet. Someone complained about this 2 years ago, how has it not been fixed yet? Please can you update this so that it actually gets full screen on a tablet. I really want to be able to use this when I’m not home.

### 1/5 — Good idea but terrible app

*2024-05-20, version 1.0.57*

I saw it and thought it would be good and helpful to write a story with, I started to make one, it won’t let me write down the characters name, it keeps on taking me to my home page and it won’t actually let me write anything? Good in theory but displayed terribly, don’t waste your time on this app just use your notes pages

### 1/5 — Horrific Lag

*2023-12-24, version 1.0.55*

its a brilliant app, detailed categories and good tracking for world building, but the lag makes it virtually unusable, it randomly deletes articles and moves things around unprompted, and tends to delete my text and keyboard midway through a sentence it refuses to type down - its a shame, because it’d probably be a great world builder if not for that.

### 1/5 — Price

*2023-12-21, version 1.0.55*

Would be 5 stars if it was free

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fixed!

*2026-07-06*

Update: The app now has tablet support! I was able to start writing a story on it over the last few days, thank you devs!

Old review: The app seems like it would be good, if it had proper tablet support. It's stuck in a phone's screen ratio, and when I write with an apple pencil, the editing tools that are usually at the top of the keyboard get stuck in the middle of the screen, effectively making it so that I can't write more than a paragraph or two.

**Developer response:** It now supports iPad! Please give it a try, and consider updating your review. It would mean a lot to our team!

### 5/5 — The.Best.Writing.App.Of.All.TIME!!!

*2026-05-01, version 1.2.13*

This app is perfect I love writing my novels and putting all the character info and stuff I don’t see why ppl are giving bad reviews like it’s perfect but maybe they’re using desktop and not iPad but I do have a problem with changing my display name and username bc whenever I press the purple checkmark it doesn’t save it so now I’m stuck w Shi and Creamy_tsr161 or something pls fix this bug! But anyway, TY this is the best writing app of all time!

### 5/5 — Had to offset some oafs

*2025-11-23*

“I absolutely love everything, but after hours of constant use it crashes and everything goes dead! At the store they put in some special cable and I have to wait MINUTES for whatever the app did to get fixed while they grill me about tech stuff I don’t care about and try to sell me some stupid “charging” accessory (like I don’t know they want to charge me for it!) so I don’t have to bring it back every time some app makes it die, but I’m not trying to learn a bunch of nerd stuff, just make it work, you know? Aside from that and how the app people hope I’ll pay for certain features which is SO annoying, I think it’s excellent. I completely depend on all this provides, but really just wish it did a lot more, like writing a bestseller that I can claim as my own work at least, for free. They owe me that much.”

This isn’t an example of any actual review, but represents some of the inanity flung at Campfire. I didn’t want to spoil the fun of reading the genuine articles. My personal favorite is the one who says they have no use for a mobile version, preferring the desktop, and therefore had to write a review with one star rating.

### 5/5 — Invaluable for on the go

*2025-04-25, version 1.1.17*

While it’s no replacement for the pc it is amazing for quickly jotting down ideas or making edits on the go.

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2024-12-31, version 1.1.11*

If you're looking for a website that can help you plan your book, Campfire is amazing for it. There's a free version and a paid one. The free one allows you to do what you need and is still amazing! I absolutely love it and do recommend!

### 5/5 — Best writing app

*2024-12-05*

I’ve used campfire writing for years at this point, both the website and the app. Overall I’d say it’s definitely my all time favorite app to store my manuscripts and continue writing. Especially when it comes to the time tracker that shows how much time you’ve spent on your story. I’d recommend this app to anyone who needs a good place to organize their story, and really map out their entire world. Some things do cost but it’s not some insane price and all of it is worth it.

### 5/5 — “small” timeline error

*2024-11-18, version 1.1.11*

can’t rearrange events on the timeline (mobile app)

### 5/5 — rare 5 star!!!

*2024-10-23*

i don’t usually give 5-star ratings, but this app definitely deserves it. i was searching for apps to help with organizing and planning my book, and though i was a little skeptical at first because it only had a few ratings (12), i was quickly delighted after installing it. the interface is clean, intuitive, easy to navigate, and filled with useful features. the app includes everythinf you typically need for book writing, plus some extras. there’s even a notepad for jotting down additional details.

you can add elements to each category, which keeps everything organized and neat. the app also provides boxes for you to fill in details and includes a search bar to quickly locate specific elements to edit or update. best of all, there are no ads and no subscription required to use all the features implemented! i highly recommend this app for anyone writing a book or working on other literary projects.

additionally (i found out later), you can customize it by adding your own panels and categories within each element, offering even more flexibility to develop your characters and settings in detail. i genuinely adore this app!

### 5/5 — rare 5 star!!!

*2024-09-20*

i rarely ever give out 5 stars, but this app truly deserves it. i was simply searching for apps to help me write and plan out my book, and at first i was a little skeptical with this one since it only had 10 reviews, but when i installed it, i was immediately won over. it has this clean and intuitive layout, with tons of features implemented. even though you can't add any custom categories, it practically already has the default things that are needed in a book, and more! if you need to add more details and such, there's also a notepad to dot down extras. you can insert elements in each category, which makes it less messy and just nicer in general. it has boxes in each of these elements to fill out details, and even a search bar if you need to find specific elements to rewrite and add stuff. it doesn't have ads, or even requires a subscription to use! i highly reccomend getting this if you're planning to write a book or anything literature related. edit: i just checked and there's way more than 10 reviews, i guess it's a glitch. another edit: i just found out you CAN add your own panels AND your own custom categories in each element, adding a feature for even more details to implement into your characters and setting! love this app.

### 5/5 — wish there was an ipad interface

*2024-07-12, version 1.1.3*

wish there was an ipad interface that wasnt just the zoomed up mobile one! besides that, great app!
