## What is Canada Wildfire History?

Canada Wildfire History turns decades of official Canadian wildfire records into an explorable map. Drag the year slider and watch fire activity shift across the country, from the first reliably-reported year in 1959 right up to today.

Every fire on the map comes from the Canadian National Fire Database (CNFDB), maintained by Natural Resources Canada, plus National Burned Area Composite (NBAC) perimeter data for recent years. Nothing is simulated or estimated.

FEATURES

- Year-by-year map: view a single year at a time from 1959 to the present and see how fire activity changed
- Fire details: tap any fire for its size in hectares, cause, how long it burned, and its nearest named place
- Mapped perimeters: see the actual shape of large historical fires, not just a point
- Filter: narrow fires down by size, duration, or reporting agency - every province and territory
- Search: jump straight to a fire by name, or find fires near a place you know
- Share: send a fire's details, with a locator map, to anyone
- Cause breakdown: colour-coded by human-caused, natural, or unknown cause, with a legend

Browsing the map and moving the year slider are always free. After your first few fire details, a single one-time purchase unlocks unlimited details and filtering - no subscription, no ads.
