### 3/5 — ⭐️⭐️⭐️

*2026-08-29, version 5.23.0*

Love the app, however lately I’ve noticed a strange bug. My spam emails have avatars from other allowable and trusted sources that have nothing to do with the obvious spam message. Also, it would be nice if when responding to an Apple HideMy Email that it would use the actual HideMy address rather than the real address when responding. Otherwise a great email app that I’ve had the please to use for many years!

### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2026-08-22, version 5.22.0*

On paper the app ticks all the boxes for me for what I want out of an email app and after using it for a short time I bought the lifetime subscription, too rash of a decision.

Over time I’ve started to notice that I have more and more bugs. I get emails which are double sent somehow, some emails don’t send at all and some emails seemingly disappear from my inbox.

I keep coming back to check if anything’s changed and I really want to love and use this app but it’s hard to when these bugs are so prevalent after such a long time

### 2/5 — If Only…

*2026-08-19, version 5.22.0*

I really liked this app when I first opened it. Clean, responsive, organized.

But now it doesn’t delete mail from most of my accounts. It keeps prompting me to open the app so it can finish deleting mail, and never does. It APPEARS as if the mail is deleted but then a short while later, I open the app and the same messages are still in my inbox, unrelated.

In addition I get a lot of phantom badges… the app icon will say I have several unread messages, I open the app and no unread messages in any of my inboxes.

This was why I stopped using Outlook. Seems Canary has the same issues.

Hope yas get it fixed up, because I think I would have liked the app.

### 4/5 — Overall the best

*2026-08-18, version 5.22.0*

It’s great. Fully loaded email app. My only complaints are the way that it handles deleted messages, when you delete a message and go out of the app it asks you to go back in to the app to finish deleting. Also, it’s kind of a pain when you have a lot of email addresses to keep up with that the app doesn’t have an option to where you can favorite inboxes.

### 3/5 — No iCloud calendar mail support for windows

*2026-07-26, version 5.21.0*

No iCloud calendar mail support for windows

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. We understand how important notifications for subfolders are, and we appreciate the suggestion. We'll share this with our team as a feature request to improve the experience.

### 2/5 — What is the problem

*2026-07-26, version 5.21.0*

I subscribed to the app and didn’t have any complaints until yesterday when I was locked out of my account and the message said my trial period was over. My renewal date was February 2027. I tried to call customer support and there is no phone number. I filled out the online support form and the response came back with the support person not understanding the issue as usual. It seems the so-called customer service can’t understand the issue unless they have a screenshot or to see your screen to solve the issue. For example, I called my bank to ask a
general question and they wanted to access my account to answer a simple question.🤨

### 2/5 — Great when it works

*2026-07-22, version 5.21.0*

I really like this app, but it consistently fails to load emails. I will have push notifications for unread emails and when I check the app, there is nothing there. Support was unable to solve this issue and I am definitely not the only one experiencing it.

### 4/5 — Good Mail App.

*2026-07-21*

It would be even better if this app supported Korean.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate the suggestion. Korean language support is a great idea, and we'll share your request with our product team for consideration in a future update. We truly appreciate your support!

### 2/5 — Lots of Wasted Space in the iPad Version!

*2026-07-16, version 5.21.0*

The message list pane on the left side takes up nearly half of the screen and there's no option to view a message "full screen." Plus, there's a large blank area at the top of the message list pane. If that area was made smaller, more messages could be seen in the list.

### 3/5 — Looks great. But slow iPad support

*2026-07-05, version 5.20.4*

The iOS and Mac versions of the app look really neat, but the iPadOS version doesn’t seem as well designed with wasted space, especially with the calendar, compose, and inbox buttons at the top of the screen. It looks like this issue was reported awhile back but no action yet. Additionally, the inbox should be adjustable or a bit smaller, it’s taking up a lot of space and makes it look strange compared to the other versions of the app.

### 2/5 — Slow and unreliable on iPad

*2026-07-01, version 5.20.3*

I bought the annual Growth subscription hoping Canary Mail would be a good replacement for Spark, but the iPad experience has been disappointing.

The main problem is performance: the app can take up to around 30 seconds to open properly, even when it was already open and I only switched briefly to another app. Spark and Apple Mail open almost instantly in the same situation.

I’ve also had issues with message deletion not completing in the background, with Canary asking me to reopen the app to continue deleting messages. Sometimes message bodies have failed to display until I killed and reopened the app.

The app has some good ideas, but for everyday email on iPad it feels too slow and unreliable for a paid annual subscription.

### 3/5 — 1 unread - Not true

*2026-06-30, version 5.20.3*

For the last day, I keep getting the one icon as if I have one unread email. I’ve searched and even filtered by unread and there’s no unread message. It’s a bit aggravating to look at the one please fix it.

### 4/5 — Great app, but...

*2026-06-21, version 5.20.2*

Honestly, this app is amazing. I've been using it for a few weeks now and I've been enjoying it quite a bit.
The pros:
No ads, normal features aren't locked behind a paywall, and it blocks trackers!!! The app functions just as smoothly as gmail, possibly smoother than outlook (which isn't hard to beat), and the interface is very intuitive.
Cons:
AI. AI everywhere. I'm sure that's not a problem for the ai bros, but as someone who actually cares about taking the time to do things myself and keep a functional brain, all I want is a button to turn off the ai stuff. I don't want to see "summarize with ai" every time I open a message from someone.

Final rating:
8/10

### 2/5 — Visually confusing

*2026-06-05, version 5.20*

I find I’m able to set up multiple emails which is good, but then when I receive email badges with new mail, it’s impossible to find the new mail in the list no matter how you configure it. You can’t just get a list of new mail, unreads at the top, they insist on prioritizing newsletters over new mail, changing settings to look at simple lists are not persistent (but still don’t get the job done) and there no way to configure the ui for a smaller font. Overall it’s an unpleasant experience hunting down your mail while being threatened with an expiring trial you never signed up for.

### 4/5 — Great Switch, excellent mail client

*2026-06-04, version 5.20*

I switched to Canary Mail from another popular subscription email app, and it has been a great experience—no lagging or glitches and it syncs seamlessly with all my devices. I just wish there were some visual improvements to the mail groups, but overall, it's an excellent replacement for the Apple Mail app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — AI

*2026-08-23, version 5.22.0*

Can't turn off ai 'features'. I will not use an app with ai that can't be disabled. Deleted.

### 1/5 — Highly overrated

*2026-08-19, version 5.22.0*

First liked it, but as issues arose, customer service was useless, even after I got a one year subscription. Email that outlook identified as junk with email addresses, Canary shows in Junk, but from me. And customer service blames Outlook

VERY SORRY I UPGRADED

### 1/5 — Broken!

*2026-08-15, version 5.22.0*

One of the two (not sure which) most recent version updates has made this app completely unusable if you'd previously Toggled ON the Sync Across Devices option prior to updating the app OR if you've made the unfortunate decision to go into the Settings and do so for the first time after having updated the app.
Toggling ON the Sync Across Devices option will now cause Canary Mail to instantly crash. It will not even stay open long enough to go back into its Settings and Toggle the option back OFF again.
At this point, your only option appears to be a complete reset by uninstalling all instances on each/every device (which will remove everything — cache, data, login credentials), reinstalling, and then going through the painstaking process of logging back in individually on each/every device.
I'm currently experiencing this on both an iPhone 13 Pro Max as well as an iPhone 17.

One ⭐️ until this is fixed.
(Generally I'd give Canary Mail almost 4 Stars on average.)

### 1/5 — Oops something went wrong…

*2026-08-15, version 5.22.0*

100% garbage app. AI answers “Oops something went wrong” with almost every prompt you input. All screening is a joke, AI assistant is a bigger joke, glitchy with message moving and it seems like the app sold my email address and now I am getting significantly more spam than before I started using the piece of garbage. Save your time and money and run from this dumpster fire.

### 1/5 — Not Free!!

*2026-06-24, version 5.20.3*

It allows you to download the app assuming it’s free, gathers all your info for your emails to setup, then it takes you to a page that says try free for 7 days!! Don’t take my info and then charge me for it.

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing

*2026-06-07, version 5.20*

I've paid for Canary yet keeps crashing. Fix it or give me a refund

### 1/5 — Does not work

*2026-06-03, version 5.20*

It started with a lot of promise. But now neither of the search function nor the AI results return the correct information. I find myself logging back into the original client to search for information that should’ve been easily surfaced. Big regrets paying for this app now.

### 1/5 — Did you know?

*2026-05-16, version 5.20*

Check this: Settings > Copilot > Help Improve Copilot ( is on by default and uses our email to train LLM). On the other hand they proudly claim that our data isn’t used to train LLM. If you are a lawyer please reply.

### 1/5 — Not as great as you think

*2026-05-04, version 5.19.3*

I love it at first and moved like 9 emails over to the app. But the more you use the app, the more you see the amazing things that you can do with it. Too bad you have to pay a monthly small fortune to access ANY of them. And if you just stay on the free version, it’s absolutely 100% no different from the mail app that comes standard with any iPhone. Pointless waste of time

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Top notch app - Top notch support

*2026-08-31, version 5.23.0*

Even if I hated this app, which I don’t, I would give it 5 stars based on customer support alone. Not only did they work with me daily to resolve an issue, but they extended my trial period by 6 days to make sure everything was working as expected. I wish all apps had this level of support.

The app itself has finally filled the void for an email client that actually makes my life easier. I used Spark for the past few years, and it has become a money pit, almost forcing an upgrade to continue using features I’m already using.

Canary has tools that I use daily at a price tag that is acceptable for what I need. Higher tiers are available for teams and businesses.

### 5/5 — Easy and quick setup. Natural workflow and effective.

*2026-08-27, version 5.23.0*

As advertised and easy to configure

### 5/5 — Great tool!

*2026-08-19, version 5.22.0*

Helps you keep all your mailboxes in one place. Love it!

### 5/5 — CyberKONG says DONT EVER HACKsolo withOUT HIM OR THEM AGAIN…

*2026-08-07, version 5.21.0*

Beautiful seamless design seamless transitions

### 5/5 — Please add grouping notification

*2026-07-22*

Hey Canary! It’s a great app, but there’s one feature I miss a lot.

On iOS, some mail clients group notifications by sender, so emails from the same person or company are neatly organized into separate notification stacks. In Canary, all email notifications are grouped together into a single stack, which quickly becomes difficult to navigate when many emails arrive.

It would be great if Canary could support grouping notifications by sender (or at least provide it as an option). This small change would make managing incoming emails much more convenient.

Thanks! :)

**Developer response:** Thank you for the thoughtful feedback and for the kind words! We're glad you're enjoying Canary. Grouping notifications by sender is a great suggestion, and we can see how it would make managing busy inboxes much easier. We'll share this with our product team for consideration in a future update. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your idea!

### 5/5 — Fantastic E-Mail Client

*2026-07-04, version 5.20.4*

Had this since 2017/2018, would like a grayish dark mode for the inbox instead of just a pitch black background for amoled. The color of the settings menu is the perfect grey i’d like to see carried over to the main inbox appearance as well Please!!

### 5/5 — Seriously legit!

*2026-07-04, version 5.20.4*

Makes me life 100x easier. Just get it

### 5/5 — Grear

*2026-05-18, version 5.20*

Easy to use. Very orginized .

### 5/5 — Great email app!

*2026-05-08, version 5.19.3*

I recently switched to Canary and I’m really happy with this app. It’s easy to navigate and I can get through my inbox fairly quickly. I appreciate all the email hints that come my way from Canary as well.

### 5/5 — Best Email App Upgrade on iPhone

*2026-04-30, version 5.19.3*

I’ve tried a lot of email apps, and Canary Mail is easily one of the best I’ve used.

The AI features are actually useful, not gimmicky. It helps draft replies, summarize long threads, and clean up your inbox so you can focus on what actually matters.

What really stands out is how it balances productivity with privacy. It’s built with a strong privacy focus and even offers encryption, which already puts it ahead of a lot of other apps.

Compared to the default iOS Mail app, this feels like a major upgrade. It’s faster, smarter, and way more organized. And compared to apps like Spark Mail, Canary feels more focused on personal efficiency and privacy instead of just team features.

I also like having all my accounts in one clean, simple inbox. Everything runs smoothly without feeling cluttered.

Overall, it’s a big upgrade from standard mail apps and definitely worth it.
