### 3/5 — Stops working

*2026-07-05*

If I read the paper online it kicks me out around the sports section. I have to close the app and restart it. It does not do this if I read via the articles ie if I don’t load the paper.

**Developer response:** Hi, sorry to hear to hear of your experience, have you tried deleting the app and re-installing the app? please contact our support team on 1300 131 095, option 2 or email subscriptionsupport@austcommunitymedia.com.au for assistance regarding your concerns with your App experience.

### 2/5 — One sided reporting

*2026-06-28*

I find that i prefer reading the comments online to the reporting, rather than the reporting itself. This is because the reporting is very biased, largely the options of the reporter. Many of the reporters are leftists and will not present the other side of the argument. It’s no longer balanced reporting. CT would be better served by looking at the comments section to know what its readers think. I would probably fire most of the hard left and even hard right reporters. We need balance media , not propaganda. I remain a subscriber because i want local news, but it’s on thin ice.

### 3/5 — Mistakes introduced in latest updates

*2026-06-15*

Since the last couple of updates the app:
. Spontaneously closes when scrolling or changing pages
. Often shows a blank page when returning from an article which requires changing from one menu to another and back again to populate the page again
. The first lines under the headlines in the index page disappear and return while scrolling through the index
. In the puzzles, the given letters in the codeword don’t start in green but instead in black and can be deleted. It requires a reset for the given letters to appear in green.
. When the codeword is completed the timer does not stop.

### 2/5 — Nearly always predictably left

*2025-10-18*

The Canberra Times makes a pedestal for the like minded, on which to stand and preach, figuratively. It’s an echo chamber of the voices who have not rarely to risk much more than the support of like minded colleagues.
I’m yet to see articles featuring the successful risk takers or those who battles with the bureaucracy that many in small businesses face.
Condemnation never is against the Canberra Elite, preferring to be nurtured in their echo chamber.

### 4/5 — Good format. Quality commentary. Thx

*2024-09-14, version 3.3.3*

Enjoy the CT news daily to keep informed and entertained.

### 4/5 — Review ct - sat 11/5

*2024-05-11, version 3.3.3*

Still very user unfriendly online - have been an avid reader since 1956!

### 2/5 — Average

*2024-03-07*

Not a good app. Not user friendly. Even if you haven’t used it for days, it takes you back to the article/section you were last in. Search function is also annoying - again saving searches from days ago, not clearing the search after a short period. Also no filter function on the search.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear to hear of your experience, please contact our support team on 1300 131 095, option 2 or email subscriptionsupport@austcommunitymedia.com.au for assistance regarding your concerns with your App experience.

### 3/5 — I enjoy the content but the app needs improvement

*2023-07-22*

Please, please, please allow me to jump between hyperlinks to different articles without automatically logging me out of the app each time.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear, but please contact our subscriptionsupport@austcommunitymedia.com.au for assistance regarding your concerns with your App experience.

### 3/5 — Yeah its Ok, but frustrating

*2023-06-05*

Generally its OK……..however I get that news sites need to advertise to make money, but when the advert sits in front of and over the text of the article you are reading (thereby making that article unreadable) it is very annoying, especially since you still need to subscribe to the paper. Grrrrr fix it or lose a subscription

### 4/5 — Lacks user friendliness

*2023-05-25*

The placement of news etc is haphazard and ads add to difficulty in following articles. Excess space allocated to ads and racing information would appear to receive little viewing and are therefore no different to junk mail I receive in my mailbox ie waste.

### 3/5 — Historical issues now messing with it

*2023-04-15*

Since the latest upgrade the main screen keeps timing out trying to download older episodes, failing, and slowing down operation. Please introduce a setting to control old issue download

### 2/5 — Hopeless

*2023-03-31, version 1.6*

I click on a link to a story and this app takes me to the previous story I have read. This is a fundamental fail.

### 2/5 — Gone backwards

*2023-03-12*

I’ve given it a few weeks now but I’m sad to say that this new version of the app is a backward step. Despite having closed all background apps and often rebooting my iPad, it is painfully slow to load and I’m on a good, fast connection. It usually takes three or four tries before it loads which is frustrating. I could read the old version without having to resort to zooming in, now I have to zoom in on every page as the image is so small. I’ll be going back to reading it on the web.

**Developer response:** No problem, when you open the Today's Paper section, please scroll down a little until you see the most recent Panorama edition which is from the 5th of December.
The next edition will be published tomorrow on the 12th and will appear at the top next to the "allhomes" edition.
Should you require any assistance, please reach out to our Customer Service Team via subscriptionsupport@austcommunitymedia.com.au
Thank you.

### 4/5 — Unable to connect

*2023-02-28*

I’m on a cruise ship off the Queensland coast and have not been able to access the Canberra Times.

**Developer response:** Hi,

Are you able to email the support team as they would be able to assist you with access to Canberra Times.

subscriptionsupport@austcommunitymedia.com.au

Ensure you are logged into the CT website or App.

### 4/5 — A much better experience

*2023-02-24*

This is a better performing app than before. While it’s not as rich, it removes the previous irritating feature where an attempt to scroll through a story before the top advert had loaded resulted in a swipe to the next article. Irony was that the offending advert was never seen!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — less than illuminating

*2026-07-09*

Constant typographical errors, rehashed reporting to add volume to stories. Digital version flooded with ads that obscure the screen - more flashing lights than in a casino, reporting is hardly up to the minute despite intrusive alerts. Little by way of national reporting. Feedback/comments from the same boorish quasi intellectuals who maintain running commentary of each others comments, seldom offer insight other than into bigotry and self interest. A newspaper owned by a person facing domestic violence charges is hardly worth bragging about as a source of information.

### 1/5 — Stolen section of my reading pane

*2025-01-08*

You have installed an advertisement on every reading page which cannot be removed which effectively steals 20% of my reading pane. It is extremely provocative and annoying especially when it cannot be removed or scrolled past and even more annoying when it flashes while I am trying to read an article. You preach that we should read traditional media, but these money grabbing tactics only force people onto social media.

You have not addressed my complaint that the permanent advertisement on the bottom of the reading page can not be scrolled past or away, it is permanent and very annoying when it flashes or scrolls while I am trying to read an article. It can occasionally be closed but the box remains which is better than the flashing/scrolling. The fact remains that my reading pane has been reduced by about 20% which is completely unethical. But ethics have long been a casualty of big business profits….. haven’t they?
My rating of your app remains the same, and I am spreading the word.
Paul Holbrook

**Developer response:** Hi Paul, The advertisements should be able to scroll past to continue the story content reading. If you come across an advertisement that you are unable to scroll past and is blocking the story content, please email subscriptionsupport@austcommunitymedia.com.au or call 1300 131 095, option 2 so ACM can investigate.

### 1/5 — We have constant problem with the Canberra Time app subscription.

*2024-09-05*

It will often only allow it to work on my wife’s IPHONE, it regularly stops working on my IPad and my IPHONE it’s supposedly is meant to work on all three devices. My wife has contact the Canberra Times over the last few years but we still have this issue of it not working. It is terribly poor yet their add constantly advertise multiple devices.

A very disappointed long term customer. Brian

**Developer response:** Hi Brian,

### 1/5 — Slow app, ads over usability, no dark mode

*2023-06-03, version 1.7*

Almost makes me want to unsubscribe. The web app is even worse.

### 1/5 — Very average app

*2023-05-21*

This is one of the cases where the website is actually better than using the app. Also the subscription cost is wild. I have to recommend a pass on this one

Edit:
They make it has hard as possible to cancel your subscription. You have to call them

### 1/5 — Dosnt work after the upgrade very frustrating’

*2023-02-22, version 1.6*

It dosnt work now Used to be fine

### 1/5 — Slower than ever, incomplete loading

*2023-02-18*

This app seemingly gets worse with each successive ‘upgrade’. Slower to load now than last week, one page still missing and I note no problems with the ads loading, aggghhh.
Please upgrade this app. Good local paper that is almost too hard to bother getting electronically now the app is even worse.

**Developer response:** Hi there, thank you for taking the time to review our app, we're always looking for ways to improve our products and will take your views onboard.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2022-09-25, version 1.3*

Impossible to use. Sends notifications every day but you can’t even scroll to read stories. The worst news app I’ve ever used. Enough to make me want to cancel my subscription.

### 1/5 — Won’t open magazine sections

*2021-09-04, version 1.3*

Panorama and all homes are not available. Had to give up using app and access CT via website

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2026-05-24, version 3.7*

I love the Canberra Times!:) excellent news articles and I love Canberra.

### 5/5 — For the people

*2026-04-23, version 3.7*

The Canberra Times is a great voice for the people of Canberra

### 5/5 — A very easy to use app

*2025-02-24*

The app work well on both iPad and mobile

### 5/5 — I’m just just me

*2024-10-13, version 3.5*

I’m just just leaving my moms

### 5/5 — Great app

*2023-05-31*

Works well, loads articles quickly, everything is easy to read, great app!

### 5/5 — Very touchy operation

*2023-02-23*

Slow to load. Three or four attempts required. Very sensitive to touch which can be frustrating. As my eyes are failing, I like the ability to get an enlarged version of an article.

I believe it is an improvement but with the reservations above.

**Developer response:** Hi Subscriber,

Please ensure all your background App are closed and your device is updated to the latest operating system.

Use the fingers to pinch and stretch to zoom in and out of the E-edition. A single tap on the article will allow a more refined view of that article has been implemented on the new app.

Feel free to contact the support team on 1300 131 095 Option 2 for further assistance .

### 5/5 — Article scrolling problems

*2022-12-04, version 1.3*

The app would be vastly improved if the articles would scroll from when first accessed, rather than after advertisements had loaded. Sometimes, depending on network speed there’s a good 10 second delay in ability to scroll that makes using the app tedious and drives you back to the mobile web version. Please fix this!

### 4/5 — Tiny crossword

*2025-03-14, version 3.7*

Cannot access tiny cross
Word

### 4/5 — Log in mania

*2024-10-17*

This has to be the worst subscriber web site among major Australian media. I frequently have to enter my password three times to get into the paper, and if I go off to visit another web site, I have to start all over again. Navigation between pages is also very clunky, no better than standards a decade ago.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear to hear of your experience, please contact our support team on 1300 131 095, option 2 or email subscriptionsupport@austcommunitymedia.com.au for assistance regarding your concerns with your App experience.

### 4/5 — ct
