Even if you pay for a speed date event, there’s no guarantee all your dates will show up. This needs to be addressed with a refund, an ability to report such, or some other mechanism. **Developer response:** This is good feedback and it led to real product changes. I know you need to make money, but at least for those who want a better experience compared to sites like Catholic match or others this should be able to undercut and not be costlier. ### 5/5 — The best Catholic dating app I've seen *2025-11-03, version 1.0.6* This is the best approach to an authentic Catholic dating app that I've seen so far, and I really hope that it gains traction and is successful. First, I love the design of the app - it's elegant, attractive, professional, and faithful (especially the logo, with the monstrance and the Eucharist). Not cheesy or cringe at all. The user interface is very easy to use, and with it being a very new app, I was pleasantly surprised to encounter no bugs, even during the live speed dating events on my phone. I also really love the fact that with Candid, I literally don't have the option to swipe through other guys' profile, because I know I inevitably end up looking for how other guys can fit my needs and objectifying them like items on Amazon when I'm scrolling, and I don't want to fall into that temptation that happens with other dating apps. That being said, I like the other app feature where a "Connection" is made based on a very well-designed algorithm that shows me other guys' profiles that matched (very well based on age, location, hobbies, interests, and profession) with mine one at a time, with a two day wait period before another popped up. For me, that also demonstrates that this is a solid Catholic app that promotes patience and trust in God's plan for our lives by challenging the cultural norm of "instant gratification" like other dating apps do. I was physically nervous before the virtual speed dating event, but I think that's what makes Candid dating so great - users literally can't just hide behind a screen and keep scrolling when they're dissatisfied with someone else's profile. Each person has to have the courage to just dive into a real-time, face-to-face conversation. It takes time, intention, committment, and confidence to set aside time for an online speed dating event like this. It requires users to treat the other person in the moment with dignity, because you need to stay on that 7 minute call and make the effort to get to know the other person, even if it's not going perfectly. The only thing is that it would be nice to have more frequent options for virtual speed dating events, which I assume will happen as the app grows in popularity. The speed dating events only last 1.5 hours. The first time, after waiting an hour I got paired with 2 people who apparently didn’t have a stable internet connection to start the video chat, and then got paired with 1 person who I did talk to. A single 6 minute conversation in a 1.5 hour speed dating event: The second time, I checked in as soon as I could, and didn’t get paired with *anyone* for the entire 1.5 hour event. I love the concept, but either not enough people are using the app to make the speed dating events worthwhile, or there are serious technical issues with the app. **Developer response:** Thank you for coming back after a disappointing first event and for being honest about your second experience. You can only send them a message and they’ll get back to you which they never do. They’re happy to take your money but when you have an issue, good luck. I even canceled my subscription, asked for a refund three times didn’t get it, nobody has responded to my messages, but they did charge me again! **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. They make you pay for the events but you barely get any real connections. It’s so hard out there especially for genuine men. Why line up dates and make people pay for people who don’t have any interest. You should allow us to make the speed date decisions and go from there. It doesn’t eliminate the commodifying and gatekeeping of relationships built in to “secular” dating apps; it just slaps “Catholic” on it, which makes things worse. Further, you’re paying $20 a month for one dead end after another.
