## Newest reviews (10 of 49)

### 3/5 — Would be better if you could DL the wireframe.

*2021-09-14, version 0.7.4*

Generally a good scanning experience compared to competitors.

Find it very frustrating that it shows me a CAD view but will not let me download it.

### 2/5 — Why it they discontinued the iPhone 7?

*2021-08-20, version 0.7.2*

I got this app a while ago I wanted to use it again but when I opened it it needs an iPhone 8 or above why did they drop support for the iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 is basically the same thing as the iPhone 7.

### 3/5 — Lack of Support

*2021-08-04, version 0.7.1*

Looks very good and pleased with an initial scan. However, the app now appears to be stuck in a loop trying to "upload" the scan despite our having already been uploaded and converted with the proprietary system. Trying to now do a CAD export but can't because of the hang up. There is no means within the app that I can find to get help with this, which is frustrating. I also had issues with the initial account setup. Seems like the tech is pretty good, but there is a distinct lack of support from the dev.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to review our app. We're sorry to hear you're having issues - please email our Customer Success team at support@canvas.io and we'll get everything sorted out. We're also working on making support more accessible in app, which you'll see in an update soon!

### 2/5 — Great scan but useless now.

*2021-06-07, version 0.7.1*

USE SCANIVERSE INSTEAD USE FORGE INSTEAD No one is going to pay $3 per scan. Sorry. Users are going to laugh when you’re forced to close up shop or sell off your proprietary technology. I’m sure you guys are only interested in profit anyways as it’s clear the free usage is a pointless burden that possibly was used for analytics. I get it, it’s cloud processed. It’s not by any measure worth it qualitatively, and especially in quantities. It’s LIDAR on the phone. Give us a free built-in processing option. Or don’t — you’ve handicapped the life out of your app so far.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to review our app, even if you didn't have a good experience. We are, however, a bit confused as we do offer on-device processing for iPhone and do not charge for it. Could you please email us at support@canvas.io?

### 2/5 — Not as good as hoped

*2021-05-25, version 0.6*

I’m an architect and I scanned our conference room using the app and my iPhone 12pro. I then paid $30some dollars to have the room converted to autocad and sketchup.

The resulting 3-D model was not accurate. None of the dimensions matched. Some were off by a few inches, others were off by 3 feet.

It’s a fun tool to get footage of a room for later review. As such, I can see a use for it. But you still need to amanually survey the space.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. What you're describing is definitely way outside the accuracy tolerances you should experience if you're using an iPhone 12 Pro (98-99% accuracy), so it sounds like something must have happened during scanning. We'd like to look into this order and make sure whatever happened gets corrected ASAP. Can you please email us at support@canvas.io with the order ID?

### 2/5 — Changed pricing and now is way too expensive.

*2021-04-29, version 0.6*

Recently they changed how they price their scans to CAD and sketch up from $29 per room to $ .15 a square foot. I did my scans per usual for a clients large home. I was expecting it to be around $700 with the 23 rooms but then it ended up holding $1300 out of my account! This is almost double what it was before. Not worth it. I love the capabilities of this app and it saves me so much time, but not for double what I was previously paying. I will be looking for an alternative that is priced more fairly.

**Developer response:** Hello! First things first - thanks for sharing your feedback. We really appreciate you flagging that you saw such a big jump and that the hold was a concern. The hold on your account is only for the maximum end of the estimated range, as we can only estimate the square footage in-app. Once your order is processed, the hold is released, and you are charged only for square footage processed — and that is usually much less, as you likely had areas that overlapped, which would be double-counted in the estimate, but not in your final order. We'd love it if you would reach out to support@canvas.io. We'd like to review your order and make sure that you were charged appropriately, make sure everything is clear, and hear your feedback on the pricing change.

### 4/5 — Great, but

*2021-03-16, version 0.5.3*

my main issue is that it auto-completes despite not being done with my scan. Therefore, my final scan is ruined by these incomplete spots.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work in rooms without decor

*2021-02-21, version 0.5.1*

Won’t work in a room that’s 10’x14’ that’s without any decorations or furnishings. It loses its place, forces you to restart.
Perhaps no big deal if you’re redecorating, but if you’re planning for a new space, it’s unusable.

### 2/5 — Nice app, but no way to export

*2021-01-31, version 0.4.9*

The app is reasonably nice; not as clean as Matterport, but still easy enough to use. The biggest drawback is that the app is a dead end for your captures. You can pay for CAD translation (and, I would hope, cleanup) but there is no option to export your captured point cloud or surface map to a file, nor is there any option to export a stitched equirectangular/360 image. As an enthusiast it’s probably fine for the “cool” factor, but as a professional there needs to be a direct export to local file for saving/archiving.

**Developer response:** Hi! Thank you for taking the time to review our app! There is a way to export the scan as an OBJ file. If you have a Mac, connect your iPhone to it, open Finder and navigate to your iPhone's name. Click "Canvas" and then you can locate the scan and drag it to your preferred folder.

If you have a Windows computer, open iTunes and click the iPhone icon. Click on "File Sharing" in the left menu, and then click on "Canvas" in the right menu to expand the folders. Locate the file, click it, and click "Save" to your preferred folder. Note: the scan is stored using the original timestamp of the scan. Then, unzip the folder and look for the .obj file and you can open/email/send as you need.

If this resolves your concern, we'd love it if you added a few stars to your review. Thanks! If you have any further questions, please email support@canvas.io.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2021-01-24, version 0.4.9*

I havent even used it and the app is asking for $3.00 to process my first scan. At least let users see what to spect from the app before they decide to buy. too much greed.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Its not good quality

*2022-11-26, version 0.12*

Its curvey and unacceptable

### 1/5 — Absolutely worthless on iPhone 12 Pro Max

*2022-01-15, version 0.7.7*

Never could get the app to scan. First, at least in this model iPhone, it forces you into rotating your phone into landscape orientation when you try to do a scan which greatly reduces its angle of view (the tutorial and media all show holding the phone in portrait, i.e normal, orientation). Second, I tried large/med/small rooms with excellent lighting. Both empty and full of furniture. At no point did the app get past the spinning dots around the “hold still” initialization portion of the 360 scan module. For S&Gs, I even mounted my phone to a tripod..can’t get more still than that! No dice. I find it asinine that they didn’t properly QC this app for one of the most popular (read: prolific) iPhone models out there.

**Developer response:** We'd love to troubleshoot your issues, as there are several things that we haven't heard before - such as forcing you to scan in landscape orientation or the app crashing during the 360 scan initialization phase.

Please reach out to us at support@canvas.io and reference this review, along with the iOS version you're on, so that we can troubleshoot this for you. We certainly want to address this and understand what's happening.

Additionally, since you're on a LiDAR-enabled iPhone, we encourage you to download the version of our app which is designed for home improvement professionals: Canvas: LiDAR 3D Measurements.

### 1/5 — Scam

*2021-10-25, version 0.7.5*

Paid 3 bucks just for my room scan just to view the file, I just wanted to save the “free” scan as an obj.

### 1/5 — Lidar scans still have a ways to go

*2021-10-12, version 0.7.5*

I scanned my living room. It looked ok. I did the more detailed walkthrough scan of the combined living room and dining room. I probably spent a half hour scanning the space, then another 15-20 minutes waiting for it to upload and process. It was worse than the first. It was downright horrible. The images for ceiling were splattered across the wall. The images for wall were spread across the floor. It was all mixed up. I think it wasn’t user error, I watched the tutorial…

**Developer response:** We're sorry to hear you were unhappy with the results of your scan. While Canvas scans aren't intended to be virtual tour quality, it sounds like something went wrong with your scan. In general, scanning a single room (even a combined living room/dining room) shouldn't take more than about 3 minutes. Repeatedly scanning the same area can cause some of the issues you mentioned in your review. We'd love to talk to figure out what may have happened. Our Customer Success team will be reaching out shortly to troubleshoot your scan. Hopefully you'll update your review once you've connected with them.

### 1/5 — Scans are now “jumbled” in iOS 15 and iPhone 13 Pro

*2021-09-27, version 0.7.4*

I had an iPhone XS Max (No LiDAR sensor) and I was able to scan an entire room with great result.

I got an iPhone 13 Pro that HAVE LiDAR sensor and when I do a scan, the picture came out jumbled. I tried this with different rooms and different scans and same result.

So looks like the app is not updated to either work with iOS 15 OR iPhone 13 Pro LiDAR sensor.

Otherwise, how can a 3 years old iPhone with no LiDAR sensor works but not a brand new iPhone 13 Pro WITH LiDAR sensor?

### 1/5 — iphone Model

*2021-08-01, version 0.7.1*

You really need to update this app. why is it only for Iphone 8 and newer.....

### 1/5 — Scans great but huge charge >$20 to save to a usable cad drawing

*2021-07-30, version 0.7.1*

Kinda neat example of the LiDAR hardware, but it’s aimed at lazy professionals who don’t want to take the time to draw their inherited projects out.

It cost a min of $20, per room, to export a usable cad file. Scan is free, but file is not - very Gillette razor approach to their business model lol.

So it’s great tech wise but falls on its face audience wise. Very niche and more tease then anything.

No way that I can see to edit scan to add parts of room you missed (didn’t distinguish white walls from corners).

Very much a toy app at this point.

### 1/5 — Privacy nightmare

*2021-07-19, version 0.7.1*

By using this app you are allowing the the company that owns this app the intellectual property rights to anything you upload. They are allowed to distribute or sell the content you upload without your consent.

### 1/5 — Absolute garbage

*2021-06-20, version 0.7.1*

Literally any room scanning app can do what this one does. Most of the time better. The usage of LiDAR is a gimmick. You only get more resolution in a scan using it which allows for subjectively more accuracy. That doesn’t mean anything when room scanning other than a boost in processing speed. That boost is ignored by this company forcing users to upload their scans for processing. Don’t buy into this greedy company. There are plenty of alternatives that offer the exact same functionality. Most don’t even need the LiDAR Scanner but simply benefit from having it. They also don’t require you to upload a customers private information to this company’s servers to “process”. The amount of information that can be harvested from scans like these is sickening. GPS data, network information, any photos or family pictures hanging on the wall, a full blueprint of a space along with the location of all the valuables. You are forced to upload all of it and give it over to be stored and processed remotely for anything usable. I’m guessing the steel sack it takes to then charge folks $0.15/ sq ft for these scans is so that the information can be adequately safeguarded and encrypted but I highly doubt that the case. Even if the info is properly handled, what stops this company from just selling that info to advertisers for a nice amount? Don’t be fooled by a gimmick.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to review our app, even if you didn't have a good experience. It sounds like you may be looking for a general 3D room scanning app, and you're right that there are many apps that can generate a 3D scan, especially with LiDAR. What Canvas specializes in is making that 3D scan data useful for professionals in the home improvement industries - people who need to capture field conditions and measurements and use that data in CAD or BIM programs. We charge $0.15 per sqft for that conversion to various CAD and BIM formats, but make the ability to scan (as well as export) free. We'd also like to add that we in no way sell uploaded data to advertisers, and because we charge for Scan To CAD processing, we really have no incentive to do so. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss further - please contact us at support@canvas.io and reference your App Store review.

### 1/5 — Boycott shady companies on principle for a better life.

*2021-02-27, version 0.5.1*

It’s bad enough that In order to trail a paid app, you have to enter into a contract first, then set a reminder to cancel the day before the end of the trial, and heaven forbid you want to benchmark a few apps because you’d like just one decent one and not the other 200 mediocre ones from the App Store littering your phone. Seems to me if your app is great, you’d be delighted for me to consider it because you’d know I’d be back saying “where do I sign up?” I mean these people are programmers right? They could easily just set it up so I get a free trial for seven days and I’ll have to send anything and it just no time is out.

But when a company goes so far as to not even to bother to mention that you actually have to pay money inside the app, and you go to the whole freaking process of their app and then you have to pay money and then you have to join to even to get any tangible item to even evaluate... then that’s a shady company that knows it’s tricking you and doesn’t care. Figures you’re so used to being treated like that, you’ll just do what they ask so as to not have lost 20 minutes of you life. I don’t do business with companies like that even if I have to take a second place product from a more respectful business. I think people are sick of this. I think our lives are valuable and our time is valuable and we are nickel and dime every corner in inconvenienced at every single turn. And companies that don’t get that don’t get to do business with me and I would hope they don’t get to do business with you either.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Phenomenal app! Time saving! money saving! totally helpful

*2023-02-21, version 0.12*

I use this app as an interior designer with homeowners who need to send me measurements of their space before I design them. I get wonderful support from the staff at campus. They always answer my emails personally, and fairly quickly. The only reason there are negative reviews is probably because the user didn’t know how to scan properly or use the app. Don’t let those reviews discourage you. I’ve used it over and over and it’s crazy good! I take these three dimensional drawings and import them into SketchUp and do 3-D renderings of their spaces. The saves me a ton of time and practically like I have another employee.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review! We're glad Canvas is part of your interior design workflow!

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2021-11-06, version 0.7.6*

As a design professional, it helps to have a process that enables us to capture a space quickly to study design solutions. The turnaround time is fantastic.

### 5/5 — Where was this app before??

*2021-10-27, version 0.7.6*

This app is a game changer. I’m in the middle of a garage remodel and it’s been a huge pain trying to get everything just right. I’m trying to show my contractor what I have in mind, and this app made it super simple to do that. Definitely using this when it’s time to remodel other parts of the house!

### 5/5 — AMAZING!

*2021-08-30, version 0.7.4*

This works great! Their customer service is top notch! Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Impressive!

*2021-08-18, version 0.7.2*

Wow! I had a difficult room with many angles to design for a remodel and Canvas came through. While their turn around time was about 5 days for Chief Architect in the past, it now was 48 hours and that was over the weekend!! And, quick response to questions. Love this app.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review. We're thrilled to have you as a customer!

### 5/5 — Game Changer

*2021-07-29, version 0.7.1*

I am loving this app. I just did a challenging whole house layout with it and you guys nailed it. I use it to put my drawings into a CAD program(SketchUp Pro) and it works like a dream. Does it way cheaper(and better) than if I measured and drew it myself.

**Developer response:** Thank you for taking the time to review Canvas! We're glad you're happy with it and our Scan To CAD service!

### 5/5 — Game Changer!!

*2021-07-02, version 0.7.1*

This app makes scanning spaces so easy.
The additional features like taking measurements and adding notes are great!

### 5/5 — Me with and iPhone 7+

*2021-06-22, version 0.7.1*

Me see ad on Instagram

“Wow this looks cool let me go check it out”

*Downloaded*
*Open app*

App:“Sorry for the inconvenience”

I don't remember eggzakly what it said

### 5/5 — Good app, deserves better rating.

*2021-04-01, version 0.5.3*

I’m not sure why the app has a low rating. It’s possible that it has changed since those reviews.

The app does exactly what it claims to do. As of this review date, I have not been charged anything and have successfully scanned my bedroom. The app is not perfect, but no app is. I’ve only used the 360 degree scan (not cad) and the results were good. Definitely worth trying the scan itself, not sure about the cad render yet.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your positive review!

### 5/5 — Great Organization

*2021-03-15, version 0.5.3*

The folks at Canvas were more amazing of a resource than I would have thought possible. Knowledge, integrity and respect were my main takeaways of our interactions and that's considering the fact that I was trying to utilize their app in a somewhat experimental manner. After our numerous conversations over email and video I was left requesting that they keep my contacts on file should the needs I have ever align with their business plans. I'm left satisfied with their product, help & goals and look forward to the next opportunity we have to work together. Such a great product and team.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the great review! Looking forward to working with you in the future.
