### 1/5 — Adding Credit Card didn‘t work

*2025-09-16*

Wasted 30 Minutes. No useful Error or anything. Tried 3 Cards → Something went wrong🤷🏽‍♂️

### 2/5 — Needs not Wants

*2025-08-26*

Unlock and ride with mostly ease (a little locking up during scan). Easy to return.

App can do nothing you want it to. which is grab a bike then navigate to a location. I can only navigate when it works, which is rarely to another bike drop which means you have to get the spot you need to go or the corner that you need to go via Google maps then come back to the rideshare app to find the rideshare drop point closest to that. So it becomes virtually unusable except for grabbing a bike. I wanna use it to cruise the city and see the sites. I don’t want to use it to just use it to the one place I wanna go in the drop point that I know exist.
They would be better off just serving Google maps with bike set as default route and allow you to search for things like in google maps. Honestly I’m blown away by how bad the UX really is. I can’t believe anyone that has worked on this app has ever actually used the service

### 1/5 — High fares

*2025-08-03, version 2025.15.3*

Will rewrite this review once they readjust the fares.

### 1/5 — What is CapMetro doing about the fault app

*2025-07-04, version 2025.15.3*

Tried to purchase a monthly pass keep getting on error message Looked at my account I see CapMetro $24.00 but I don’t have a pass. What’s up with that?

### 1/5 — Not taking card info

*2025-05-22, version 2025.15.3*

It keeps saying card not authorized with any card I try. This has been happening for months

### 1/5 — Incompetent customer service

*2025-05-16*

App not taking credit card and they just keep telling me to try other cards (Its my problem). There was another guy right beside me having the same issue and talking to customer service not getting results either. I followed all their steps and it still did not work. They simply said there is nothing they can do but that it was not on their end. Absolutely absurd. Don’t plan to use them. They ruined our whole day with their ridiculous, apathetic. and incompetent service

### 1/5 — Awful App

*2025-04-08*

No way to logout. No way to reset password, so if you forget, you're done. Even if you delete the app and re-install, you are still logged in. Which would be fine, but for some reason you have to reenter your password to buy a new pass. Instead of some 2 factor approach. Ridiculous.

### 1/5 — One of the worse UXs I’ve seen

*2025-04-01*

Cap metro generally does a decent job with apps but this misses the app so bad I can’t describe it. First my girlfriend’s account can’t be created because she’s from Australia and it won’t accept her card despite claiming it will. Then I tried it create an account. You are forced to choose between pay as you go or a pass and can’t change the choice after account creation. Best I can tell you have to delete your account to change it. Pure idiocracy.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2025-03-14*

I’m unable to sign the rental agreement. App stays locked on spinning wheel of death trying to load. No other problem with other apps or internet connection. Called to get help and they said it was my phone. Do I tried to download on my iPad and had the same result.

### 1/5 — Unusable / TOS don’t load

*2025-03-13, version 15.82.3*

See title

### 1/5 — Payment

*2025-02-27, version 15.82.3*

My debit card not working on this app since 3 month pls support 🙏

### 1/5 — Do Better

*2025-02-26*

Genuinely terrible app experience compared to other bikeshares run by Lyft, buggy and frustrating UI, with no real updates in several months! The actual bikes are very pleasant to ride.

This could be a great program, but the app could really hold it back. It’s not clear how to pay for single rides the first time you use the app, and you can’t request a bike to be placed in the morning like you can on the scooter apps. since the switch to Lyft, the city’s data dashboards haven’t been updated, and they were super helpful for figuring out if certain stations empty out quickly (and getting stranded).

CapMetro, please fix this app, I want this program to succeed!

### 1/5 — Debit cards not accepted

*2025-02-17, version 15.82.3*

I confirmed with CapMetro. Incredible as it sounds, if you don't have a credit card, you can't use Austin's public bikeshare program.

### 1/5 — Dissatisfied!

*2024-12-27, version 15.82.3*

It is very dissatisfying, I used it for the first time for 18 minutes and charged $24. I do not know what to say, like more than a dollar for a minutes. It is the most unfair rate I have ever been charged. Very dissatisfied. Do not use it if you see it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Slow and buggy

*2026-04-19*

Nothing loads. When I did get as far as unlocking a bike it just froze

### 1/5 — Complete garbage since bought by capmetro

*2026-03-22*

I used to use the old bikes privately owned with no problem. Now that it's been bought by the city, it's impossible to sign up via the app. tried two different cards and refused all of them with no idea of why. It's the only bike that works around ladybird lake so way to ruin the trip for so many visitors to Austin! Get your s together cap metro!

### 1/5 — Can’t add Card

*2026-01-20, version 2025.48.3*

Useless app. Downloaded it to bike around Austin, TX. Can’t even add a card payment on the app. It says “We apologize something went wrong. Please try again.”

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-01-17, version 2025.48.3*

Won’t take my card. Tried 3 cards. Just keep getting something went wrong. Do better Austin.

### 1/5 — Totally worthless app

*2026-01-17*

Go out of my way way to go to one of these stations, Downloaded the app, fill in the profile info and then try to put my credit card. Tried three different cards and it just gives an error every time.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-01-03, version 2025.33.3*

Absolutely terrible app. It would make sense if the bike racks took cash or something but the only way to use the bikes is through the app and the app doesn’t even work. Completely useless.

### 1/5 — Constant error message

*2026-01-02*

There's a constant error message saying there's an error when signing up I've tried on my account. My girlfriend's tried on her account and we keep getting the same thing. We can't even use the bikes everyone coming up to the bikes are getting the same issue with the app

### 1/5 — should be so simple

*2026-01-01, version 2025.33.3*

literally cant even get a year subscription. i put in all my card info and it just doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Unauthorized charge

*2025-12-22, version 2025.33.3*

Capmetro placed a $39 unauthorized charge in my credit card. I would not use them to rent a bike. Never again. I had to do a dispute through my bank. The app never works correctly.

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2025-10-11*

Something went wrong… tell me what or fix it

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Easy to set up

*2026-03-14*

The app is straight forward when coming to scanning your bike, and especially for the price compared to other bike apps it is worth it unlike Lime it has pedals and you can get an unlimited ride for the whole day but you have to return the bike then scan it again.

### 5/5 — Super useful 🙌

*2025-09-27*

It’s the best choice if you want to go somewhere and you don’t want to wait for the bus or it’s easier to get by bike. I love there are plenty stations to pick and drop.

### 5/5 — Worked great and loved it!

*2025-04-20, version 15.82.3*

I had no problems at all with the app. After reading other reviews I was surprised. It was easy to sign up, and easy to rent the bikes. We had a great ride around the River. Only thing to consider was the 60 minute limit before they start charging extra. We returned our bikes to a kiosk half way (45 minutes) through and sat by the river a bit and enjoyed the scenery. I think we could have just checked them back out again if we chose to. Also, funny it was $11 for a 30 day pass and $12.80 for a one day pass 😂.

### 5/5 — Unbeatable public transportation

*2025-03-19*

I use this everyday. Customer service is fast and understanding if you give them a call. This is the best decision I ever made coming to college.

### 5/5 — Worked great

*2024-09-15, version 15.66.32*

App and bike rental worked great. No issues. No clue what other reviewers are talking about.

### 5/5 — App and bicycles have improved a lot

*2024-08-31*

I had problems with the initial launch of this new app, but now everything works great. Also, the new bikes are awesome. 🤙

### 4/5 — Decent overall

*2026-02-08*

Decent overall service.

Never any problems with the lock and unlock actions.

Decent network in downtown and central east Austin. Never have any problems with no bikes at stations.

Things to improve:
1. It sends a welcome to the first of many rides pus notification every time I go on the bikes. It made sense the first time but doesn’t anymore.
2. $150 a year is kinda steep. I feel $100 was fair.
3. Handles get a little sticky from what seems like the handle rubber degrading in the sun.

Please keep going. This service is very useful!

### 4/5 — should be so simple

*2026-01-14, version 2025.33.3*

literally cant even get a year subscription. i put in all my card info and it just doesn’t work.

edit: i am gay.

they only accept credit cards.

### 4/5 — Great way to get around downtown

*2024-11-21, version 15.82.3*

I take transit downtown each morning and ride bikeshare to and from my office most days. The bike network is pretty good Downtown, West Campus, SoCo & Ladybird Lake.

I recommend the annual pass: it’s $86 for unlimited rides. Otherwise, there are pay-as-you-ride plans that start at $2.99.

PROS
* Starting a ride is easy with the QR code.
* Can see where bikes are on a map
* Can see how many bikes are at the dock
* Takes many forms of payment
* Doesn’t drain battery

CONS
* hard to add 2+ riders
* can’t report non-functional bikes at the dock
* network limited to downtown adjacent areas

.

### 3/5 — Can’t purchase a pass

*2024-08-03*

I keep getting an error when I try to purchase a pass and it won’t tell me what’s wrong. Also, why is our birth date required to purchase a pass?

Update: I had to turn off my VPN in order to purchase a pass. The new bikes are great, but users shouldn’t have to turn off their VPN to purchase a pass.
