What a bummer for the summer grilling season. Emailed CAPPEC with no response. I got a new phone and now it won’t pair with the probe. It was never great to begin with, but this was the final straw. Going in the trash tonight. ### 1/5 — Older version was better *2024-11-27* I just started smoking a turkey for Thanksgiving and my app had offloaded. The new version installed and only shows overall temp. Useless now. Need to have my alarms and recommend temps back Update!!! I had to delete and reinstall the app. All is well now!! ### 1/5 — Time calculation not working *2019-08-24* The time estimate does not work, always saying it will take less than a minute to cook, regardless of whether the item is room temperature or nearly done. Thankfully, the alarm works, but only when the app is open. ### 1/5 — Disappointed *2018-11-08* After an upgrade the estimated time to completion always says <1 minute. I cannot use it. Stay away. Crashes 80% of the time when opening, loses Bluetooth connection the 20%. It is totally accurate but the range on the Bluetooth was awful!!! I had to keep my phone in the window 15' from the cooker in order to not lose connectivity. Kind of makes it a pointless buy. The original App was pretty nice. Gave tons of info about your cook times, current temperatures and alarms for over temp on the cooker. The new App makes my thermometer a paper weight at best! It connects but I have absolutely 0 usability of the App. All I get is the over temp alarm... There are so many other companies out there making a fantastic quality product without these issues. I strongly recommend using a different company!!! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Works very well *2017-12-25* I own the CAPPEC as well as idevices and Weber remote thermometers. The CAPPEC device and app are very solid performers. The batteries MUST be good. This works via Bluetooth and IS NOT WIFI. The range is not bad for me. Works to the same distance as any Bluetooth speakers work for me. Thumbs Up!! ### 5/5 — DON'T THROW IT AWAY! *2017-10-05* My App would not work. Found, by accident, that if you turn on the thermometer within a few feet of your IPhone, the app works. Make sure you have fresh batteries in your thermometer and you should be good to go. ### 4/5 — USDA guidelines not entirely current *2015-12-26* The setting for turkey shows the old USDA guidelines. Recently, the USDA revised a lot of guidelines. These need to be incorporated. For instance, at 180°F (the temperature shown on the device) the turkey will be dry. The current guideline is 165°F. ### 3/5 — Solide *2019-05-26* Die deutsche Übersetzung wurde mit Hilfe von google erstellt (not nice!!!) UX ist ebenso nicht die Beste aber brauchbar. I would like to have the option to set one of the probes as a smoker temp vs. only meat settings. ### 3/5 — First use *2014-06-28* Interface a tad kluge but not a deal breaker. Has some fun tools: graph showing temperature movement, battery strength, history. (Oh yeah, I smoked a butt on June 28.) No ability to calibrate and I wish the probe came with a "stand" for those of us use one of the probes to monitor smoker temperature at grate height. All in all not bad, could be better. Bluetooth Range seems to be a big ol' challenge. I'm fourteen feet away from the smoker and outta range? ### 2/5 — Lost the instructions manual *2018-03-29* Where is the manual? There is no more an Info tab! Why not add temperature range alarms (low and high) for slow cooking. But it's way worse. As soon as I come inside the house it looses the connection Also is doesn't store your temp settings. If you close the app you have to reset everything. Pretty annoying.
