## What is Capsule?

Capsule keeps two things: a journal for now, and capsules for later.

YOUR JOURNAL
Talk about whatever is on your mind, any time. Or let Capsule ask: every day it has one question, drawn from what you said before, about the concrete and ordinary things you will want to remember. Answer by voice, video, photo or a note. A minute is plenty.

• Review before you seal. After that an entry is never rewritten, so your journal stays an honest record.
• Voice and video are transcribed and every entry is indexed, so you can search your own words.
• Ask your journal: "What did I say about Dad?" Answers come only from your entries, with the entries they came from.
• Every Sunday evening, your week read back to you in a few lines, with a question for the next one.
• Reminders that fit you: around the time you usually write, or when you arrive where you often write.
• A year after your first entry, your Year Capsule opens: the year, read back to you.

CAPSULES
Some things should wait: a message for your future self, a voice note for your daughter's eighteenth birthday. Seal it until the day you choose, and nobody can open it early, not even you.

• For you, or for someone you love: on a date, at an age, or after you're gone.
• On the day, Capsule delivers it: in the app, or by email if they don't have it.
• "If I'm gone": choose up to five trusted contacts who can release your capsules for others.
• Polish tidies a recording before you seal it, cutting long pauses and the ums.

PEN PALS WHO GET IT
Going through cancer treatment, caring for a parent, wondering what AI will mean for your work? Capsule suggests pen pals in other countries who share what you're going through or what you love, and you choose who to write to.

• Pick up to three things you're going through, all optional, and the topics you love.
• Everyone writes under a pen name they choose, never a real name, and a pen pal sees only what you have in common.
• Letters are end-to-end encrypted, and can be read once unless the sender lets you keep them.
• For adults 18 and over. Block or report anyone in one tap.

YOURS
Your journal lives on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. Capsules are encrypted on your phone. Capsule locks with Face ID. Export everything in open formats whenever you like.

Capsule is a journal, not a therapist: it never diagnoses or gives treatment advice.

Capsule is free to use. Capsule Plus (monthly, yearly or lifetime) adds longer clips with video, more indexing and questions each day, and unlimited capsules. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your Apple account settings.

## Version history (last 2 releases)

### 1.1 — 2026-10-27

• Your week, read back: every Sunday evening Capsule writes a few lines about your week from your entries, with a question to carry into the next one.
• Reminders that fit you: the daily reminder comes around the time you usually write, and when you arrive where you often write. Worked out on your phone, never sent anywhere.
• Pen pals who get it: choose, if you like, up to three things you're going through, such as cancer treatment, caring for someone or the future of AI, and Capsule suggests pen pals in other countries who share them or the topics you love. You choose who to write to.
• Pen names, clearly: choose yours from five suggestions. Every name in pen pals is made up, never a real name.
