But I have an odd issue with it. It eats my battery like crazy. I don’t understand why. I’m not sure if all magazine apps are like this, but for me, it uses about 0.5-1% of my battery per minute. I have an iPhone 14, and it’s less than a year old. It shouldn’t drain this fast. The Car and Driver app is really cool, but if you could sort out the battery-life issue, that would be great. Usually it arrives by the end of the previous month. Phone calls and emails have accomplished nothing. No customer service at all. When reading a magazine, it takes about 5 minutes and my iPhone is almost too hot to touch. For some reason this app takes a lot of processor power and this is a battery pig. No graphics or formatting, all text was in 12 point Times New Roman. Okay, fine, at least there's a workaround. Now for the last 2 months, the links in the table of contents don't work. So there's no way to get to the articles you want to read other than tediously scrolling page by page from the start of the magazine. This is frankly unusable. I have emailed the apps support email. No response. I don't know what to do. I would love a refund but don't know how to go about getting one. ### 1/5 — Burns up battery, won’t remember place in article; content great though *2023-08-03, version 23.0* This chews up my new iPhone’s battery at a rate of 25% per hour, heating up the entire phone. This happens even when not interacting with the app! This is in “text” mode on downloaded issues. I rarely use “PDF” mode on the phone because of all the scrolling and zooming required. Terrible quality control in power usage. I can read an ebook for hours without denting the battery. When you swipe left or right from an article, all to easy to do by accident, the app always scrolls back to the top. This is inconvenient. Otherwise I always enjoy the content. Please fix these problems with the app. ### 1/5 — Content fails to render *2023-08-01, version 23.0* I paid for an annual subscription to Car and Driver. Things worked for about two weeks, then the content stopped rendering on every device I own. I have contacted app support, whom cannot resolve my issue and ghost me on subsequent requests for additional help. Each time I open the app I have to go to Settings and restore my purchases or it will otherwise charge me for my magazines or lock them. It also tends to show only a white page after a page turn and get stuck. This requires me to close the app and reopen it to continue reading. You must exit the app and re-enter to restore the missing page. Today I tried PDF view. It fixes the white page problem but instead adds a scroll bar that blocks the content. Please fix the app or tell me how to get rid of the scroll bar. I have to close the app and restart and then be careful to avoid the pages that cause problems. Half the time, the content is displayed without any images or CSS formatting, so it's just walls of bizarrely formatted text in Times New Roman. Then there's the problem that the app burns through battery power (and makes my phone uncomfortably hot) even when it's doing basically nothing. And there was a problem a few months ago where the links in the table of contents didn't work, making the app almost completely useless. I'm going back to the paper version of the magazine the instant my subscription expires. The app is horrible. ### 1/5 — App will not let you access your purchase. In that time frame, Car and Driver has always held the edge on all the rest of the car magazine population. It comes from the writing, the fact that they know exactly what you know, and they are not afraid to admit it.
