The transfer between my phone and vehicle will consume massive cellular data traffic. All my screen data will be transferred to their server. They can see everything on your phone. So terrible! **Developer response:** Hi, thanks for the feedback. To address your concerns, yes, the app uses your cellular connection as mentioned in the app store listing, but it is no more than using a streaming service or video conference call on your phone. The app also works using WiFi and premium connectivity so the data usage is only from the iPhone, it's not doubling up your data usage. In terms of safety, data is transmitted securely and utilises WebRTC, the same technology as Google Meet to make a peer to peer connection between the devices via a relay server. It is no less secure than having a video conference call intercepted. In terms of connection quality, the picture quality is transmitted as HD, check your network signal if you are having issues with quality and latency. Thanks for using Car Cast, I hope this addresses your concerns. ### 1/5 — Screen share only *2024-04-08* This application purports itself be a way to have interaction with your iPhone using the Tesla browser screen. However, this is only a screen sharing app, which has no ability to be interactive. Once it’s put on there’s a significant lag, particularly as you swipe through mini screens, using the phone itself even applications, where it would be helpful in an electric car you cannot engage the iPhone without touching the iPhone itself **Developer response:** I'm sorry to hear that you've had a negative experience, we had hoped by using the words "cast" and "mirror" would show that this is a 1 way screen share, we will update the app store listing to make this clearer. The "lag" is the framerate reduction in drive mode, this is intentional so that drivers do not watch videos when driving. It is annoying but necessary sadly, it still offers a solid solution for using sat nav such as Waze and Google maps that don't need such a high refresh rate. Park mode does not have this restriction or latency and is ideal for watching tv, movies or live sport. The videos that are allowed are minimal and the app displays a black screen for movies from Apple TV, Hulu, Disney+, Netflix, etc. I should have been more cautious when the ads had comments turned off. There is no way to warn others to not waste your money on this app. **Developer response:** Hi, Sorry to hear you’ve had a negative experience. The reason for this is DRM, a number of apps don’t allow streaming for copy protection. You can watch your own movies on the app from apps such as VLC as well as IPTV and some streaming apps too. App support and restrictions are listed in the App Store listing to outline this in full as well as the help and support section in the app too. It pretty much “just works” for me. App is well polished. Screen even rotate when it detects that my phone is in landscape mode, instead of having to switch it myself. I do have some audio crackling issue. Not sure if it’s my connection or if it’s a problem with the app. ### 5/5 — Park mode great, drive mode ok *2024-03-26, version 2.0.9* Works great in Park mode, able to stream live sports from the browser to my M3P. No Netflix or Prime. Drive mode works, frame rate is low as warned. Works well enough for Waze though. Notifications only work if you disable screen lock. Thanks for the feedback! ### 2/5 — Latency is terrible *2024-11-11* Not worth the price. Depending on your use case it is viable, but again not worth it. If you are getting it to any sort of media it is absolutely terrible. I got it so I can use my plex media while charging but the latency is so bad that it is completely unwatchable. Unfortunately had to pay a premium price just to find out that it is not usable. Don’t make my mistake, go elsewhere. - Update to developer response: I appreciate your reply but see two issues. The Bluetooth connection to my car is considered the key, so I never turn that off. Second, the fact that your app requires a stable internet connection is a flaw that other apps in this space do not have. Other apps have you connect your car to your phones hotspot so they are directly linked. For some reason your app requires everything to through your servers. Added point of failure as well as added security risk. **Developer response:** Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. In terms of latency, double check the connection speed you have on both your car and phone, a poor signal is the main reason for latency. We're going to build a connection tester into the app in the future. That said, with your use case latency should be irrelevant. Make sure you're not using Bluetooth audio but turning off the Bluetooth connection. The audio will stream to the browser and remain in sync with the video playing and store your phone away and you should have no problems watching Plex.
