## What is Carbetic?

Carbetic estimates the carbohydrate content of meals. It offers five input methods:

3D meal scan — Take three pictures of your meal from different angles. The app estimates net carbs for each visible component. Works for mixed dishes and meals where you don't have exact ingredient quantities.

Recipe scan — Photograph a printed or handwritten recipe. The app reads the ingredients and estimates carbs per serving.

Recipe link — Paste the URL of an online recipe to get a per-serving carb estimate.

Voice input — Describe what you're eating (e.g. "1 large apple and 150g of papaya") and receive a carb estimate.

Text input — Type in what you're eating to get a carb estimate.

Results are estimates, not precise measurements. No account required to start. Note that all features (3D Scan, Recipe analyses using an online Link, Recipe analysis using a scan of a physical recipe, voice mode and quick lookup) require a subscription. Both the affordable standard plan as well as the unlimited plan offer access to all features (standard plan is capped at 10 analyses per day).

Love the app, makes life as a T1D so much easier. 

A couple of updates I would love to see in a future release:

- for personal reference, fields where you can record your BG and how many units of insulin you took for the meal and a test field to add your own notes. 

- the option to choose ounces instead of grams.

I’ve used the app a few times, very impressed especially how it identified what I was eating. 
The only issue, and I’m not sure how the developer would fix it is where the chef presents the meal in such a way that a large portion of the carbs are hidden. I has chicken ballotine on mash, but as the chicken was on top of the mash, the mash was underestimated. I recognised that do moved the chicken so all the mash was seen.

i’ve been type one diabetic for just about 13 years now. i can’t tell you how many times growing up i would avoid carb counting and just guess and even as an adult i have to do that sometimes too. i recently decided to try this app after years of guessing and second guessing my measurements and calculations finally there is something for us diabetics to have a better idea of what we’re eating without having to measure every little thing. 

i tested this app with my dinner on the date of writing this review. i cross checked the measurements of the app with my own measurements on a simple meal. it got everything pretty dang close and i was impressed. i love that it gives an estimated absorption time as well for those that are using a pump that can extend boluses for them. 

to the developers, thank you for also including a celiac only mode for us diabetics who also have to deal with celiac disease such as myself. this app, despite being AI which i have my own opinions on, allows me to take so much of the mental load off of managing diabetes. thank you!

I used this app off & on for the trial month. It was very good at identifying food however, I found it was over estimating some foods & when I tested it with a portion of rice that I knew the carbs for & nothing else on the plate it added a Thai prawn curry to it. Another meal it added a glass of wine. Where these extra ingredients came from I have no idea.

This app allows my daughter to have more self management for the times when I am not available, but it helps me too!  We are now using the Twiist pump and it has an absorption setting for each meal bolus—this app helps us navigate absorption time with less guesswork.

The app developer is also very responsive to questions.  Well done!!

J’ai testé cette application avec les scans gratuits, j’ai validé les résultats en vérifiant avec ma balance car je suis diabétique depuis plus de 30 ans et je reste relativement méfiant sur les innovations bien que geek dans l’âme. Je l’utilise maintenant depuis un mois et demi et c’est vraiment bluffant. Un grand merci à vous, Diego pour cette application qui facilite tant la vie au restaurant et aux repas de famille à tous les diabétiques. Les mises à jour sont régulières et dénotent d’un vrai sérieux. Bravo et encore merci !

Seit einigen Jahren sage ich immer wieder „Es muss doch mit KI möglich sein, dir Kohlenhydrate via Foto zu ermitteln.“ und endlich hat es ein junger Programmierer sehr gut umgesetzt. Zig Test‘s mit guten Ergebnissen. Ein wertvolles Tool für unterwegs! Danke!
