## What is CarbZen?

Snap a photo of your plate and see the carbs in each item in seconds, checked against USDA FoodData Central. No weighing, no barcode hunting, no food diary.

Built by a Type 1 diabetic, for anyone tired of counting carbs the hard way.

I have counted carbs at every meal for years. Weighing food, squinting at labels, guessing at a restaurant plate while the food got cold. I built CarbZen so I could point my phone at a meal and get a real number back, fast.

WAYS TO SCAN
- Photo, Describe, or Barcode for a fast carb count
- Label (Pro): read the carbs off a nutrition label
- Recipe (Pro): carbs per serving from a recipe or ingredient list

WHAT YOU GET FREE
- A real carb count on every scan, never a locked preview
- Net carbs when you want them, with fiber subtracted
- The carbs broken out per item, so a mixed plate is not one mystery number
- Your scan history and photos saved on your phone
- Your first week comes with unlimited scans. After that you keep 30 full scans every month, free, for as long as you use the app.

WHY THE NUMBER IS WORTH TRUSTING
Most carb apps hand you whatever the AI guessed and stop there. CarbZen checks its estimates against USDA FoodData Central, the public nutrition database dietitians use. When the photo estimate and the USDA value disagree, you see both and pick the one that fits your plate. You stay in control of the count.

CARBZEN PRO
Pro unlocks the deeper tools, and it begins with a free trial when you are eligible:
- Full macros per item: protein, fat, fiber, and calories
- A clean PDF report you can hand to your dietitian or care team
- Apple Health sync for your carbs and calories
- Unlimited scans, a daily carb goal, weekly trends, and meal notes
- Repeat a past meal with one swipe

WHO IT IS FOR
People with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes who track the carbs in their meals. People with prediabetes keeping an eye on what they eat. People following keto, low carb, or an eating plan from a doctor or dietitian. Parents and partners cooking for someone who counts carbs.

WHAT IT IS NOT
CarbZen gives carb estimates for general information only. It is not a medical device, and it does not replace a glucose monitor, a dietitian, or your care team. Estimates can be wrong. Always confirm meal and dosing decisions with your clinician before you act on them.

YOUR PRIVACY
No account. No email. No food diary to fill out. Your scan history lives on your phone, with optional iCloud backup you turn on yourself. To estimate carbs, a photo is sent securely for analysis and is not stored after the count comes back. We use privacy respecting analytics and crash reporting to keep the app working, and we never sell your data. Full details at carbzen.app/privacy.

SUBSCRIPTION
CarbZen Pro is an auto renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, and a one time lifetime option is also available. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in Settings, Apple ID, Subscriptions. The free features stay free with no subscription.

### 1/5 — Not useful

*2026-06-26*

This app only counts carbs.

I don’t understand the point of this since a food tracker like LooseIt will keep track of carbs and a lot more, and does a better job of recognizing food.

CarbZen thought a chicken breast was salmon.

**Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to write this. I’m sorry CarbZen wasn’t the right fit.

CarbZen does track more than carbs, including protein, fat, and calories, though I understand that may not have been clear enough. Carbs are prioritized because the app was built to make carb counting faster and less frustrating, and the full macro breakdown is included with Pro.

You’re also right that food recognition is not always correct. Every item can be corrected, and that feedback helps me keep improving CarbZen.

I’m an independent developer, so feedback like this is genuinely helpful. If you’re open to sharing more about what felt missing or confusing, please reach out anytime at support@carbzen.app.

### 5/5 — Quick Results

*2026-05-31*

CarbZen gave me quick and accurate results when I was out to eat on my Khao Soi. I was surprised.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the review. I’m glad the app helped. Reach out if you have any suggestions to make it better.
