## What is Caret?

Caret is a fast, native server console for developers and sysadmins. Connect to any Linux box over SSH from your iPhone, iPad or Mac — no agent on the server, no cloud middleman, no account required.

— HERD YOUR AI CODING AGENTS —
Run Claude or Codex agents on your own servers and manage them all from one inbox, grouped by status — working, waiting on you, or done. Read an agent's latest output, reply, review its exact code changes as a git diff, then drop into its terminal. Agents keep running even when the app is closed.

— FULL SSH TERMINAL —
A real interactive terminal powered by a complete VT/xterm engine. Run vim, htop, tail, or any program. Multiple tabs per server, automatic reconnection, and a mobile shortcut bar for Ctrl, Esc, arrows and pipes. Attach to tmux or zellij, forward local and remote ports, and pick from 17 themes.

— LIVE MONITORING DASHBOARD —
Watch CPU, memory, swap, disk, network and load average update in real time, with smooth on-device history. The Status screen aggregates every server into one board; tap through for per-core breakdowns, top processes and host details. Pull real server-side history from the host's own sar/sysstat records — even for time while the app was closed. Metrics come from reading /proc over SSH — nothing to install. Linux and macOS hosts.

— DOCKER, EVERYWHERE —
List containers across all your hosts at once, with live CPU, memory and network usage. Start, stop, restart, inspect and follow logs in real time. Build reusable Pod templates — a graphical docker run, or a Compose stack — and deploy them to any set of servers in one tap.

— SFTP FILE MANAGER —
Browse the remote filesystem, upload and download with live progress, and create, rename, move, compress or delete files and folders. Preview and edit text files right on the server. On Mac, drag files between servers or straight to and from Finder.

— SNIPPETS & QUICK RUN —
Keep go-to commands one tap away, and fire one command across many servers at once — with saved history of every run.

— ASK AI, BRING YOUR OWN KEY —
An optional AI assistant, one tap from any screen, that already knows what you're looking at — your metrics, containers, files or terminal. Ask what a process does, why load is spiking, or how to fix an error. Bring your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini key; it stays in the Keychain and talks to the provider directly, with no Caret server in between.

— KEYS, JUMP HOSTS & SECURITY —
Passwords, keys and passphrases live in the system Keychain / Keystore, never in the app database. Manage SSH keys in-app, authenticate with passwords or keys, and reach private servers through a jump host (bastion), including multi-hop chains. Add an optional Face ID / Touch ID app lock. Turn on sync and your data — including credentials — travels only through your own private iCloud or Google Drive (end-to-end encrypted on Drive).

— APPLE WATCH & WIDGETS —
Keep an eye on your servers without opening the app. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show live CPU, memory and load; on Mac the same metrics sit in the menu bar. The Apple Watch app puts a read-only status board on your wrist — refreshed even while your iPhone is in your pocket.

— BUILT FOR EVERY SCREEN —
One native app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. On Mac it's a true desktop app — sidebar navigation, native density, multi-window and split-pane workspaces. Light and dark themes, and 14 languages.

Caret is free, with server management, monitoring and Docker built in. A Premium upgrade unlocks the SSH terminal, SFTP editing, AI coding agents, the Ask AI assistant, server-side history, jump hosts, port forwarding and cloud sync — monthly, yearly or a one-time lifetime purchase.

### 5/5 — Great works well

*2026-07-09*

Love the implementation very great everything just works! One thing please add option to disable status checking for certain servers. And ssh connect/jump only for some since we might not want all servers to show metrics etc.

### 5/5 — Great server manager for macOS

*2026-06-12*

SSH, monitoring, Docker, and SFTP are all in one clean app, and the interface is fast and focused. It’s especially useful when I want to check servers or manage files without switching between multiple tools.

### 5/5 — 很好用

*2026-06-04*

使用很方便，界面也很美观。

### 5/5 — Good

*2026-06-03*

A genuinely solid SSH and server management app. Terminal, monitoring, Docker, and file transfers all in one place, with credentials encrypted in the Keychain and seamless iCloud sync across devices. Works beautifully on both iPhone and iPad — it's become part of my daily workflow.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.4 — 2026-07-29

- fix bug

### 1.4.3 — 2026-06-27

This update brings voice input and session replay to the terminal, plus more:

• Terminal voice input (Premium): Dictate commands by voice, with system speech recognition, cloud Whisper (your own key), and on-device Whisper for fully offline transcription.
• Terminal session replay (Premium): Record and replay terminal sessions with play, pause, speed control, and scrubbing; session log retention is now configurable.
• Scan your local network for online hosts when adding a server — no more typing IPs by hand.
• File uploads in the terminal now accept any file type.
• Cleaner terminal connection bar with a new auto-detect toggle.

Other improvements and fixes:
• Content shifts up when a key panel opens over a full-screen app, so nothing gets hidden.
• Fixes for custom key layouts and long-press alternate keys.
• Better loading feedback so taps no longer feel unresponsive.
• Fixed an iCloud sync failure that could occur in rare cases.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-06-22

What's new in Caret:

• Docker image, volume and network management
• System log viewer — search, severity highlighting and auto-detected log sources
• systemd service management, plus a full service list from the monitor page
• SFTP file permissions (chmod) and in-folder search; resumable uploads and downloads
• Dynamic SOCKS5 port forwarding (ssh -D)
• Custom app icons on iOS and macOS
• A far more powerful on-screen keyboard — preset packs for tmux, zellij, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Copilot, macros, long-press second characters, an Fn layer, modifier lock, and a record-style key editor
• Snippet parameters — get prompted for values when you run a command
• Terminal: custom cursor style and blink, keep-screen-awake, and auto-open keyboard
• Keyboard shortcuts now sync across your devices
• Many fixes — sleep/wake no longer false-alarms servers offline, steadier tmux/zellij/Herdr detection, smoother full-screen scrolling, and macOS startup / menu-bar fixes

Thanks for using Caret. We'd love your feedback.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-06-20

What's new in Caret 1.4.0:

• Herdr — run Claude or Codex coding agents on your servers and manage them from one place: a cross-server inbox grouped by status, expand to read an agent's latest output, reply inline, open it in the terminal, and review its changes as a GitHub-style git diff. Get a notification the moment an agent needs you.
• Terminal — attach to zellij sessions (alongside tmux) with one-tap install; upload your own monospace font; Nerd Font / Powerline icons; a new keyboard key to snap a photo or pick an image, annotate it, and hand it to Claude Code on the server. Plus an optional startup command that runs on connect.
• Monitor your macOS hosts, not just Linux. Tap the listening-ports card to see every port and kill or copy one.
• Browser preview — open a server's web port through a tunnel in a built-in browser.
• Redesigned connections panel showing each session's latest command or current folder.
• Clearer sync errors (network / timeout / server).
• Many fixes and refinements.

Thanks for using Caret. We'd love your feedback.
