Carla allowed me to search for, book, and PAY for a rental car in Anchorage, Alaska—even though they apparently have no ability to actually provide a rental there. How does a company even allow reservations in a state where they can’t fulfill them? What makes this even worse is that they didn’t bother to notify me. No email. No phone call. No text. Nothing. Instead, I happened to check my reservation myself the day before pickup and discovered that it had quietly been switched to a refund request stating that “if approved, it may be refunded within 10 days.” I never requested a cancellation. I never requested a refund. Carla simply took my money, canceled my reservation without my knowledge, and started a 10-day refund process while leaving me to figure it out on my own. This wasn’t some trip months away. My pickup was scheduled for 9:00 AM the next morning in Anchorage. Had I trusted Carla to communicate like any competent company would, I would have shown up stranded with no vehicle and no backup plan. This is beyond incompetent. It’s deceptive, irresponsible, and shows a complete lack of respect for customers. If you cannot provide rental cars in a location, don’t advertise them. Don’t accept reservations. And certainly don’t charge people’s credit cards for a service you never had the ability to provide. A rental car isn’t an impulse purchase—people rely on them for flights, hotels, work, and vacations. Carla’s complete failure to communicate could have ruined my entire trip. Save yourself the stress. Book directly with a reputable rental company instead of gambling on whether Carla actually has the vehicle they’re happy to charge you for. One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. When I arrived, I was unexpectedly required to pay a $200 security deposit and was told they needed to run a credit check. Because of these unexpected requirements, I was unable to rent the vehicle. As a result, I had to cancel my students’ field trip, which was extremely disappointing. When I arrived at Porto Airport and went to the Europcar desk, I waited about 30 minutes only to be told that there was no reservation under my name. In the end, Europcar rented me a car as a normal walk-in customer and I had to pay the full three-day rental price directly to them. They had no information about the money I had already paid through this service and even told me I would have paid the same amount if I had simply walked in myself. So what exactly did I pay £80 for? Absolutely nothing. This was one of the most pointless services I have ever paid for. Seeing it advertised through Skyscanner made me assume it was reliable, which makes the experience even more disappointing. I would give 0 stars if the App Store allowed it. It cannot guarantee prices, a car type, seats or transmission. It “only” charges you $20 upfront which is their commission leaving you dealing with the car rental companies on the end. I’ve had a denied booking. Literally no car for you. I’ve had $3,500 security deposits for a one day rental, I’ve had to scale down the car from 7 people to 5 people forcing us to change our trip and getting a fine for having one passenger too many. I have contacted RentCarla’s customer service and they literally did NOTHING. No refunds. They have no leverage with car rental companies it’s just a FRAUD.
