## What is CARMA For Life?

CARMA, the Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation Mobile Application, is an ACLS tool designed to help guide practitioners through bedside resuscitation.

Preliminary trials using the algorithm presented in CARMA has resulted in an 80% increase in patient survival of a CPR event.

CARMA has four independent countdown timers, swipe-able Ventricular Tachycardia & Ventricular Fibrillation and Pulseless Electrical Activity (PEA) reference pages. There is a complete list of select-able Diagnostic Tips (H's and T's) and recommended medication and non-medication treatment solutions. CARMA is an invaluable, portable tool for healthcare professionals in the resuscitation of patients experiencing cardiopulmonary arrest.

CARMA includes an audible CPR metronome which defaults to 100 beats/minute, and timers for Epinephrine, Amniodarone and code duration. The duration timer prompts the leader to reevaluate every 30 minutes. Each timer has a unique vibrate feature when it completes its cycle. All of CARMA's timer durations, rates and audible features are configurable through CARMA's preferences menu.

CARMA also features a logging process that automatically tracks all activities within a session.  They include timer starts and stops, H's and T's selections, rhythm, medication and non-drug intervention selections.  Each event is time stamped for easy review.  In addition, the session log can be easily emailed for archiving purposes.  In conformance with HIPAA requirements, no patient information is stored in the log and the log does not reside in the physical space of the mobile device.  Once the application exits or is reset, the log is deleted.

CARMA is an ACLS tool which gives healthcare providers the ability to better manage cardio-pulmonary events. It guides the provider through ACLS protocols in real time at the bedside utilizing the 2014 American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, leading to better outcomes.

### 1/5 — Great concept but with major issue

*2024-03-20*

I love the concept and features. However, the app closes when I press any of the check marks under H’s & T’s. The clock does not keep going when it abruptly closes. The app also shut down when I pressed the end of the code. Not very reliable for recording purposes if it is going to keep unexpectedly closing and resetting.

**Developer response:** Which device and iOS version are you using?

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2023-06-28*

This is a Godsend. When you’re running codes it helps everyone immeasurably to have an aid like this.

Make sure to take advantage of the app recording all the interventions you do. It makes documentation MUCH easier.

### 4/5 — Simple and works..but something is missing..

*2021-10-25*

Im an ER nurse . Wish this app had a few things .. like a drop down button/ red flag/ count down under cpr for “rhythm check”

### 3/5 — Solid start

*2021-06-12*

Need a wider time range for amiodarone. ACLS guidelines say you can give it every 4 minutes, yet the lowest you can set the amiodarone timer is 5 minutes. Also, need to be able to record the rhythms form the VT/VF and PEA tabs. Switching pages in a code is more tedious than it seems.

### 4/5 — Good app but needs improvement

*2018-01-06*

This is the first time I am writing a review for an app. I am a Medicine Resident and till now had trouble with managing CPR, rhythm check and Epi time. But I used this app during my last code, I felt very organized and it was easy to manage CPR and rhythm check times. My problem with the app is, the email option doesn’t work. Also, when I choose new session in VT/VE, it doesn’t reset the shock count to zero.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2017-09-14*

Just started my career as a resident. It really helps with following the ACLS algorithm. Must have app for all residents!!!!

### 5/5 — Must have

*2017-05-25*

Makes the whole acls algorithm easy to remember when you are in a code situation which makes remembering anything tough. Great for students and medical professionals. Cheaper than similar products i have seen on the app store (although i haven't used any of the others so i can't rate them). This has timers, meds to give, and actions to take. Really useful.

### 5/5 — Two Thumbs Up

*2017-05-11*

Full of functionalities but also very simple to use during codes to ensure proper timing of interventions and subsequent documentation. Highly recommended for anyone that may find themselves in the position of leading a code.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2016-08-02*

As a critical care and rapid response nurse, I use this app frequently. It helps to provide timing for medications, compressions and therapies. During a stressful situation, it helps to keep everyone on track and improve patient outcomes.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2016-07-20*

This app is perfect for running a code. It allowed me to concentrate on finding the cause of the arrest and not worry about when to give important medications . It also ensured that the patient got his full two minutes of cpr each cycle. The metronome ensured right rate and the metronome is now recommended with Get With the Guidelines. One thing we do not do in a code is get a finger stick blood sugar but it was a tip in the h and t section. Wouldn't you know the patients sugar was 22?! Thanks CARMA!
I think this app would be perfect for the pre hospital provider as well.
