I’m familiar with the Carmen Sandiego franchise, so it’s nice to have another solid game to add to the collection. The characters, art, capers, and everything was fun and enjoyable to play through. My only real criticism is that I think there should be more locations to visit around the world. Because there’s only 15 cities, it does start to feel a little repetitive after some time since you keep on coming back to the same places you’ve already seen. My hope is that they can add more cities and locations in a future update. Considering the very first Carmen game had over 30 cities to visit around the world, it would only make sense to have 30 cities in this game (since it’s meant to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original release). **Developer response:** We're glad you enjoyed the characters and art! Some Continuity Errors Need Fixing *2025-03-17* This game is fantastic, so nostalgic, learning as much now as I did as I kid. I’m really glad this franchise has been revitalized. Highly recommend. That being said I have one hangup about the signal boost caper (SPOILER ALERT). The main plot point is Player is on the run to avoid being framed for a burglary, unable to be contacted, Agent Hyde replaces him. But then he pops up throughout the mission to tell Carmen, there’s no more VILE activity in a country’s sub area, or that it’s time to get on the plane to go to the next location, and his face is still used as the help icon and for the investigator bonus when completing mini games. He should be replaced with Agent Hyde for this mission, no? A minor continuity error that kinda took me out of the game a little. I think what would really step it up would be more cities! And also, when you’re on the right track, those little vignettes that the original games had would be so cool. The thing is, the game doesn’t tell you when you have to go to certain places in order. It gives you free will for the most part, but there’s particular parts in the game that you’ll need prior information to perform well in unless you have extensive geographical and/or historical knowledge. If not, you miss out on evidence needed for missions, which is extremely important if you don’t feel like restarting for prosecuting the wrong people. Overall, the game’s instructions and information on suspects can be confusing as someone with ADHD. I totally get it being a difficulty aspect but at the same time, the game’s vagueness makes me prone to overthinking what is considered to be something that’s actually extremely easy. I’m a bit disappointed in the lack of voice acting, and I’m glad I didn’t buy this on PlayStation like I planned because there is eventually a point in where you can’t advance the main story as it’s “coming soon”. Also, if you’re looking for any closure on what happened in the last season it’s not here. TLDR: fun and educational, BUT confusing in-game information, can be grindy/repetitive, honestly not a fan of the main story. at all. **Developer response:** Hi rainbowdashr, and thanks for sharing your thoughts! Played it a couple of times a couple months ago, logged in today (yes, under the saw Netflix profile), and all the progress I had made is gone. I’m back to square one. What irritates me the most is that, if you dont catch the right criminal in the first try, you have to restart the entire chapter aaaalll the way from the beginning, repeating everything you just did, which takes a long time, if you dont catch the right criminal again, you will have to restart the game again. Idk who came up with that idea but it 100% ruined the game. To identify the right criminal, its the most confusing thing you’ll ever have to go through. The explanation on how to do it is minimal and confusing. Making people restart the game from the beginning instead of restarting that last chapter when you lose is by far the dumbest idea any developer can come up with. I played the 1985 original as a kid and was hooked. Even still have the world almanac paperback that I used as a reference. The game is true to the original albeit updated for next generation.. improved graphics and an updated dossier of Vile henchman. The storyline has a gripping plot with doable puzzles.
