If you click on someone's profile there should be an option that says 'send friend request' or something similar to that and the person who got sent the request will have two options. They either add them as a friend or decline. Once you add someone, there should be a friends tab where you can see all your friends. You can be able to see if their online, or even chat privately with them. You should also add an option where you can search people. Lets say dir example you want to find a friend but their not online not you have them added as a friend. You can search their username and the results will show people with similar names so you don't have to remember their full username.
