I’ve never come across a focus timer that was this much fun to use and made me feel this good getting work done. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — It pains me to do this but there is patently false information in this app *2024-08-04* I honestly thought that I was going to be coming here to write a five star review. Because I love this app. But before I decided to come and write my review I did one more focus session and I got an Easter egg apparition for Mr. Rogers, except that it was a description of being in the fighting in Vietnam. It was written as though Fred Rogers was a soldier in Vietnam and was sharing his experience. The problem with this is that Fred Rogers never served in the military. I did see that the apparition was marked as an Easter egg and I thought maybe that meant that it wasn’t true, but I couldn’t find anything marked anywhere that it was not true. So I went ahead and unlocked all of the rest of the apparitions for Mr. Rogers. There is still nothing to indicate that the Easter egg apparition is not true. I have no idea where this whole “Mr. Rogers in Vietnam" diary entry came from, but it is pure fiction and very misleading not to have it labeled as such. You may be experiencing a bug we have not encountered yet. As far as we know, there are no issues with the app launching on iPhone 15. ### 1/5 — Didn’t work *2024-07-25, version 1.2.2* The app didn’t work. I tried downloading 4 times but couldn’t do anything other than click the ‘Get Started’ button which then brought up a window with ‘Continue with Apple’s ‘, ‘Continue with Google’. It would log in, show the same ‘Get Started’ image and then I would repeat this over and over. I was never able to get it working. ### 1/5 — Famous Muslims? *2024-07-08, version 1.2.1* Separate categories for famous Christians & Jews but not Muslims, it puts off 2b potential users. ### 1/5 — The concept is great, and that's all. *2024-05-28* 1. A subscription is required, costing ¥1500 monthly, and the app itself is not free (¥100). Although it’s a minor amount, I plan to request a refund from Apple soon. 2. I have the discipline to use my phone as a tool necessary for my work. I seek an app that motivates me, not one that suggests I should be barred from using my phone. 3. It’s disappointing that there are no scientists among the ghosts you can collect; the focus is mostly on activists and politicians. 4. The app requires real names for signing up, whereas a username should suffice for this type of app. I dislike any app that mandates real names upon registration. **Developer response:** 1. We've completely changed our pricing and the app is now free to download! Our monthly subscription is now $5 USD, and our yearly subscription is now $35 USD/year ($2.92/mo), which is about ¥470/mo as of writing this. The subscription plans allow our team to continue to develop features for the app, and build out our library of ghosts. We have to pay our developers a salary, and this is their full-time job. We also have a store coming soon for people that don't want to subscribe. We plan on having over 10,000 ghosts in our library, and it's a lot of work to research and curate the ghosts. 2. We have a mode called "Normal Mode" that allows you leave a focus session without penalty for people that need that, and "Focus Mode," for people that need accountability. The point of Focus Mode is to rewire our users brains to become more disciplined – like you. Then they can graduate to Normal Mode which is a far more relaxed focus timer. Normal mode only costs 750 coins to unlock, and you can switch between modes at your leisure. But we've found from focus groups that most people like Focus Mode. 3. We only had about 114 ghosts when you left your review, and now we have 215. We're quickly climbing to our short term goal of 1000 ghosts. We've added a Famous Scientists pack with 33 of the most famous scientists in history, and we add more every day. We also have a Famous Japanese, and a Famous Composers pack if you're interested. You can delete your account and start over to choose those packs and begin to catch ghosts from there. 4. As of version 1.2, we've made the Name field optional. Hooray! Thanks for your feedback to help make our app better! Version 1.2 currently includes Sharing and Reminders. Version 1.3 (coming in July) will have History, Streaks, Custom Timer Length, Easter Eggs, and Sound Effects. We're a brand new app playing catch up with apps that have been around for 10 years. If you're patient with us, we'll prove our value. ### 2/5 — Have to have all constantly running *2024-07-09, version 1.2.1* I LOVE the concept of this app and it’s something I would really use if I didn’t have this issue. You have to have the app constantly on during a focus session which I find just makes screen time go up as the screen is constantly on which is a real shame! ### 4/5 — Great concept *2025-05-03, version 1.4.7* I like how you get 3 chances to leave the app without undoing your work. It turns out that the feature that would have marked it as being fiction hadn't rolled out yet. If after the update I feel that it's obvious that this apparition was meant to be tongue in cheek I will update to five stars. I now get more work done and use less time on my phone scrolling through social media endlessly when I should be working. Enjoy the design aesthetic of the pixelation, quotes, and simple and effective UI. One UX improvement: The app doesn’t provide an incentive for focus periods of longer lengths: the coins allocated for 4 30-min sessions is more than 1 2-hour session, despite them being the same amount of time. This incentives users to use these lesser focus times, making them use their phones more to set up these shorter sessions - which is counter-intuitive to the purpose of the app. As a solution, a coin multiplier for longer periods (contra: equal amount of coins by cutting longer periods of time to smaller sections) would enable users to focus for longer periods of time - and enhance the purported functionality of the app. Otherwise, great job!
