I’m currently sitting at level 67 (actually) and it just cost 230 stars to put up a tiny potted plant. It takes hours to wait for energy that gives you about 60 seconds of gameplay. The rest of the game is just fodder to get a few more tiny bits of energy making it feel like you’re doing work to play it. That’s never fun. Cats & Soup had fabulous sound engineering -this game has a BARKING cat. A WEEKLY charge for like 100 more energy is also just bad practice. She cute. But good luck feeling anything when you build stuff -the grind takes away from the tiny achievements. ### 4/5 — So fun but mini game needs to be fixed *2026-09-05, version 1.4.2* I love this game! It’s very cute and I enjoy the match making and putting clothes on cats lol but the mini game “ingredient order” is so confusing and I cannot figure out how to play it. I’ve literally never won. The directions are not clear and it makes me want to not play the mini games at all. Please remove or make the directions more clear ### 2/5 — Not a fan of recent updates *2026-09-05, version 1.4.2* To anyone reading, this game is pretty good in the current free mobile game landscape - no forced ads (even though you are incentivized to watch them for rewards), and pretty generous with the premium currency, energy, etc. That being said, I can't help but be annoyed at the recent events being upscaled in difficulty, and the introduction of time sensitive based missions. It's a cute game, but it's not as relaxing as it used to be, and I can't help but feel this design decision bodes ill for the future of the game. ### 4/5 — Great Game! Expect… *2026-09-03, version 1.4.2* I LOVE this game except the amount of playtime you get. In the game you use “energy” to get ingredients. There are 2-3 mini games available per day to get more but after that when you run out, that’s it. You can pay money to get more, but otherwise you have to wait hours to build it back up. Very annoying ### 2/5 — Gets worse every update *2026-09-02, version 1.4.2* The game has been pushing for players to spend money more and more and the item requests have gotten ridiculous. Look at the Reddit for magic recipe and you’ll see the progressive deterioration of the game. Most items in the shop cost gems instead of coins and you will have nothing to do with your coins besides buy treats and if your cats are all max level then your coins are not good for anything. Every update has game ruining bugs and sure there’s a small compensation gift from the team but you’d think after so many instances of this happening that they’d take a little more time to iron out any issues before releasing the updates. I used to love it and was considering buying the ad removal pack but in the end I’m glad I didn’t spend a cent on this game. Not rating one star only because I’m delusional and holding onto hope that things might begin to change. ### 2/5 — Lovely game but at what cost? *2026-09-02, version 1.4.2* This game becomes worse and worse with every update. The energy we used to get decreased from 100 to 10s now. I used to get things in the shop with coins and maybe 2 we could get with gems but that changed too. Almost all of them are asking for gems. And the gems? There is not balance within the game because gems are so scarce and expensive! I even bought the ad pass when the game became available in the USA. I can’t imagine how it is like for those who play for free ### 2/5 — Disappointed in the new changes after the latest update. *2026-08-31, version 1.4.0* I’ve been playing since the game launched in NA and have never complained about any changes because I understand that at the end of the day, developers need to make money, especially when they’re constantly pushing out updates. The most recent one has been extremely disappointing, however. This was meant to be a relaxing game that you could play as wanted, but they’ve over-gamified the events, rewards, and other aspects and that make it far less enjoyable now. I don’t want to grind to complete time-sensitive missions. I want to passively collect cats, watch them do cute things, and unlock new areas. I’m disappointed. For the first time, I’m genuinely thinking about not playing anymore. I’ve already invested probably around $100 total into this game because I thought I’d always play and wanted to support the game because of how much I enjoyed it. It’s lost a lot of its charm and fun. I loved this game, I have spent hours on it and even bought in game passes because I loved the game and wanted to support the developers. After their new update, everything is so much worse; player experience has been traded for more profit. Cats, costumes, and pets, all part of why people love playing this game, have all been harder to obtain. Everything is broken and feels like a cash grab rather than a game. I even paid to remove ads because I enjoyed the game so much and wanted to support its development because it was so generous. However, since the last major update, it’s become increasingly clear that monetization has trumped player experience. I know every game needs to make money and respect that, but the corporate greed that has removed so many good features entirely or locked them behind a paywall has rubbed me the wrong way and made me question whether or not I even want to continue playing. Why change the energy cap? Why remove pets from the owl events? Why not include pets in rerunning events as rewards? Why is every aspect that made this game enjoyable and generous being locked behind a paywall? Unfortunately, over those few months it’s gradually withdrawn energy, rewards, made events impossible to complete without spending $. It’s way too frustrating to play now knowing I can invest weeks of merging/playing only to be denied rewards. Bye bye kitties. ;( ### 1/5 — it’s gotten so bad. don’t download. *2026-09-06, version 1.4.2* i loved magic recipe since its global release. it had cute cats, fun events, fulfilling rewards and great graphics. i loved playing this game so much i considered buying the ad-free package just to support them because it seemed like much care was put into it. you used to get 200+ energy for logging in and a good gift box (travelling merchant) you can level up. this is so you can get energy/gems to save and use later for events (which also had good rewards). events were so fun and even though it took moderate effort to complete the end result was very satisfying. however, recent updates led to glitchy boxes, 50 energy login reward, no more gift boxes, and horrific events. the store to buy items only has 1-2 things u can buy with coins (they’re encouraging gem usage, therefore you buy more) also, you’ll get time-limited tasks to complete in 1.5hrs max but takes hundreds of energy to complete which is so fun. not to mention their random events now take a lot more energy to complete for the same or worse reward. i don’t understand how devs thought giving users less rewards and harder tasks means they’ll spend more (they think we’re sheep). i feel very bad for new users who join because it’s much harder to do everything now, jump ship while you can. if you do want to download, check their socials or forums. plenty of users are complaining abt this game and will be deleting. i am joining them. ### 1/5 — Money Grab *2026-09-04, version 1.4.2* The recent update has changed everything. Don’t download unless you plan on spending real money on gems to progress in the game. ### 1/5 — Cute game ruined by greed *2026-08-31, version 1.4.0* I started playing Magic Recipe when it first launched in the app store and I really enjoyed it until the first few events, which for a busy, working adult, it was difficult to get any of the new cats bc they were so grindy, requiring you to log in and play every few hours to receive the reward in the 2 week? period. I couldn't get any of the rewards... I stopped playing after that, and have returned after a good half year or so. They seem to have fixed a lot of the events and made them a bit more balanced and last longer, but after this new update, there's just so much going on and with less rewards than before the update, it honestly ruined the relaxing part of the game. They want you to buy more energy in order to receive the rewards or else you're out of luck. They give you 30 minutes to complete high level requests which you need HUNDREDS of energy for. They brought back an older event but have decreased the rewards greatly... Even the recurring event, they have greatly nerfed the rewards. They're so fixated on wanting players to spend money on the game, they took the joy and cuteness out of it. I paid for the ad removal when I first started playing, but I regret supporting a developer that's so greedy. Now I remember why I stopped playing in the first place. So much has been taken from players and given back with less. I’m not opposed to supporting the devs with purchases, and I did spend money on both the original cats and soup and this game. but with this game it’s just a step too far. the most recent sticker book event was impossible to finish without spending money. the energy cap makes it impossible to grind, and the cost of the 5 star box (both from shards and from $$) for not even a guarantee of a new sticker was insane. this game needs to be more accessible and enjoyable. the most recent update nerfed nearly everything, from the gift boxes from ram g thunder, to mole’s shop, to even the challenge quest…. there is nothing fun about completing ridiculously hard challenges for abysmal rewards. seriously, on what planet do you think it makes sense to reward 10 energy for something that takes hundreds of energy to complete?? the quilt event and other busywork events have the same issue.
