### 4/5 — App crash resolved after reinstalling

*2026-04-24*

At first I was unable to open the app, but once I removed the app and reinstalled it, it worked just fine.

### 2/5 — Crashes constantly

*2024-11-13*

Since installing IOS 18 it crashes when trying to enter a change of port of call. Great when the app works.

### 2/5 — What a Jacksonville Customs Officer Told Me:

*2024-03-24*

What a Jacksonville Customs Officer Told Me:
« I would advise against using the ROAM app until after you have a cruising license secured. Be sure to make formal entry with CBP form 1300 at the first port of arrival when you return from foreign. »

### 2/5 — Great idea but has problems

*2023-10-04*

We used the app to apply for a cruising license which we received confirmation for and now when we want to “report cruising port of call” we are unable to. Our only option continues to be “report arrival”. We are now calling to report our port of call and every officer has been very kind trying to help us but they have no training on the app and there doesn’t seem to be any technical support. It would help if there was some technical support or if we could email someone for help.

### 1/5 — Flaky and infuriating

*2023-09-23, version 2.16.36*

CBP Roam will not work on my android Samsung S20 and who knows how many others. The 8/30/2023 update does work on S9 & S10 but each reinstall or update dumps all the previously configured Travelers and Vessels. … lotta work!
The CBP suggested solution is use someone else’s phone … Really?? Authentication is user configured, so … that’s not a solution.
I’ll be phoning arrival in until this app works.

### 1/5 — Needs improvement

*2023-09-22*

This app is good for arriving into the US but does not work while cruising the Us.
I see what CBP is trying to do but there is still confusion between boaters and the officers.
I would not use this and just resort to reporting by telephone while cruising within the United States.

### 1/5 — I do not like to pan an app but…

*2023-07-09*

I had setup the app on my iPad but now added it to the iPhone and I go though an extensive and secure login process but none of my account info come in and I have to set up all of it again? Hopefully it’s a big and soon to be fixed. Fail!

### 2/5 — System Flaw

*2023-06-11*

Downloaded on iPhone 13 and got a version that has two options “Report Arrival” and “Report Cruising Port of Call” which allows me to select “Report Cruising Port of Call” and report my current anchorage or port but I can’t get the same version on the new phone just purchased. The updated version provided on the App Store keeps downloading an incomplete or old version and there doesn’t se to be a way to update. The old version treats you like a new traveler entering the US! Very frustrating!! It’s a five star when it works like it should.

### 3/5 — Very limited editing capabilities

*2023-03-23*

No copy-and-paste of phone numbers, or other info? No ability to change traveller info after the initial edit? Paste an existing passport photo? In 2023? … please…

### 2/5 — It may be useful but one has to manually enter …

*2022-09-21*

So my first impressions- Ug!!! One has to enter number for everything- passport, boat…. It is so tedious - and frustrating!

Just put a cut and paste function! For crying out loud! This is something that one has to do over and over and over….

Allow me to cut and paste these numbers- it will be MORE accurate 😃

### 1/5 — Authentication Failed

*2021-11-11, version 2.11.62*

Cannot seem to log in off my phone anymore but can log in off other peoples phone. Keeps telling me authentication failed try again

### 1/5 — Absolutely terrible

*2021-06-10, version 2.8.0*

Glitchy and slow. Have to wait over 20 minutes for CBP to decide if they want to call you or not. Facial recognition takes 5 or 6 tries. This is what you get when government tries using technology.

### 1/5 — Probably somewhat illegal usage of this app

*2021-05-22, version 2.7.42*

I downloaded this app do to some demand from a local bailbondsman. I’m an American citizen and not a pleasure boater, why is the CBP allowed to run a bail bonding service for my state through the App Store?

### 2/5 — Functional but major security flaw with Zoom

*2020-04-09, version 2.7.30*

Unfortunately must delete due to massive security and privacy abuse with Zoom. Please consider alternatives from Microsoft or Cisco. Thank you.

### 1/5 — iPhone 11 log in issues

*2020-01-13, version 2.7.26*

Unfortunately I have not had a good experience with this app. I was able to create an account online but when I try log into the app it is stuck on the log in screen and does not advance to the verification code.

I have an iPhone 11 and tried to reinstall the app and my phone several times but still does not work. I’m lucky I wasn’t trying to report as I was testing out my account, this needs to be fixed...

### 4/5 — Great for local boaters, but still a few bugs

*2019-11-19*

This app is great for local boaters here in the USVI and Puerto Rico. Very easy to use and add travelers. The video chat to clear in works really well and the officers very professional and good to work with.

Still a few bugs:
When logging in you get a text message pin#, but you need to switch apps to read the text message. It works okay using the home button to switch, but if you use the text notification to switch it gives you a blank screen when you return to Roam,

It would be good to remain logged in for a period of time after using roam. Each time you exit out you need to go through the entire login procedure again. Or even better - use the finger print recognition to log in quickly.

### 1/5 — Canadians can’t use until IN the US

*2019-08-13*

The idea of this app is great. It saves the officers a lot of time when processing entrants into the US by having the travellers enter all of their own information and answer the declaration questions.
I took a lot of time registering our boat and entering all of my family’s NEXUS information. As we were leaving the marina on our boat, I went to submit an entry for reporting, and I was denied entry. I tried again. Denied.
I called the closest port of entry to find out that as of recently, they changed the app so it won’t work if you aren’t in US waters. You can’t report that you’re leaving now, like you can over the phone. The problem is, a lot of Canadians don’t have any roaming packages on their phones and therefore can’t use their phones in US waters. Which makes this app useless and a big waste of time. Now we have to go back to the other way of taking up an officers time, by calling in and having an officer manually enter all of our information.
This app needs to be changed to allow you to use it anywhere, not just off a US cell tower.
I know Canadians would love to be able to use this app and be able to save a lot of Border Protection Officers’ time.

### 1/5 — Absolute JUNK!

*2019-08-08*

The system is NOT READY. I am 0 for 5. Don’t waste your time putting all the information in. Save the time and just go thru customs you end up doing it anyway. I am a computer designer and I can’t make it work. Why they would roll this out without working is unbelievable. Go idea very poor execution.

### 2/5 — Update ruined ability to call before arrival

*2019-08-05*

The latest update defeats the purpose of having a Nexus card as you cannot submit your arrival information until in US waters.

If your entry point once reaching US waters has poor cell service you will not be able to submit your entry information, and you will not even know most of the time if they have not received it which forces you to sit around wondering if they got it.

As a Nexus holder that can submit arrival information four hours prior to arrival, the app should have not only the entry location but your exact ETA of when you will arrive. This would also be beneficial to CBP officers if they want to meet you and inspect you.

App needs to allow submission and approval prior to entry into US waters.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crash

*2026-05-24, version 2.44.0*

I opened the app, it said I had to update. After update the app crashes within one second of opening. Restarted phone and it still crashes. It needs another update I think.

### 1/5 — Using it

*2026-05-16, version 2.42.0*

The app will not open

### 1/5 — Seriously!?

*2026-04-16*

It seems like this app is no longer supported and should be removed from the AppStore? It will not let me login…keeps sending me to the same place over and over again despite logging in. This is the best the USGOV can do!?

### 1/5 — Can’t open the app

*2026-04-13, version 2.41.0*

App said needed updating - updated - try to open the app - app closes

### 1/5 — I’m impressed …

*2024-11-24*

At just how stupid this app is. I’m coming in on a commercial flight and want to report my pending arrival. The app won’t let me report unless I give the pilot’s name and information. Now, just how many passengers on a commercial airliner know the name and immigration information of the pilot? BUT the app won’t let you report without it. Oh, well, that’s helpful. They want to know the flight number. My flight number has a letter in it, but the app doesn’t let you put letters in. They want to know the tail number of the aircraft. How the heck do I know? I’m sitting in a hotel or in the terminal or on the plane! Obviously this app was only made for illegals to break into the country with the government’s blessing, not for citizens.

### 1/5 — Worthless!

*2024-08-15*

One-time verification codes never worked. Rebooted multiple times and tried about 12 times total, but it never worked. Called CBP, but they were no help. Had to travel an extra
1-1/2 hours (and considerable gas burned)
because the CBP ROAM system didn’t work - very frustrating!

### 1/5 — Broken

*2024-07-21*

Latest update fails to submit arrivals.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2024-06-11*

The “update” that they FORCED ME to update to continue use the app causes it to crash after I login, select my vessel, and click next. Not the app is useless, guess I won’t use it and see what happens 🤷‍♂️

### 1/5 — No response

*2024-01-23*

I’ve been waiting for an agent to reply for over two days now to grant me access from Florida to Bahamas. I have uploaded all my information and the app keeps on saying waiting. You cannot cancel the request or navigate the app while this is in progress.

### 1/5 — Port of call button missing

*2023-09-24*

We are travelling by recreational vessel. We have no button to report “port of call” as mandated by CPB. We’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app three times and installed on other devices as well without success (the port of call button does not exist for ourselves and fellow Canadians). The only thing we can report is a new arrival which is not the case when stopping at marinas. In Oswego we reported the issue by phone and were instructed to call in to CPB every time we stop to get off boat. When we call some agents refuse to help us report but insist we go back to the app. We’ve insisted we have been directed to call in as the issue is with the app. Please add a port of call button because using the port of entry option makes it appear that we have just entered the US over and over again. Thank you.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Outstanding

*2022-07-18*

A real simplification of the process for coming back to the USA from Canada. The app works well and I’ve had nothing but courtesy from the agents who have followed up by phone.

### 5/5 — So awesome!

*2019-06-30, version 2.7.8*

This app is great!! Makes everything so easy. You have to be a complete ignorant fool moron if you can figure out how to use this app and sign up for the login.gov thing. Now those Customs dudes can spend less time messing with Americans on a boat and concentrate on getting those illegal Irish overstays!!

### 5/5 — Great and needed app!

*2019-06-13, version 2.7.4*

Has been working great until recent update with Spanish language support.
Editing or manually entering a traveler causes the app to quit.

No easy way to report bugs. This is why I am posting here.
Thanks!
(Maybe invite me to TestFlight beta program 😊)

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2019-03-06*

I would like to say this is a very good app. As this new app evolves it will get better. I am looking forward to being able to use it on my snowmobile as well.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!!!

*2019-01-07, version 2.5.6*

Love the app. Simplifies the entry process and makes clearing easier for both boaters and CBP. GREAT JOB !!

### 5/5 — Smooth

*2018-12-28, version 2.5.6*

Just used this app to clear at the Northwest Angle on snowmobile. Works great!

### 5/5 — Brian Muston

*2018-11-20*

The app is great. A nice addition to the CBP arrival process. No more having to spell out all the different names from crew who from all over the world. Easy and straight foreword.
I am sure there will be bugs etc. but so far it has been very useful.
Great Job.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2018-09-10*

This app worked flawlessly for me this past weekend. Well-designed and easy to use. Super improvement over the SVRS. Thank you, Homeland Security.

### 5/5 — It’s from the government, it’s free, easy to use and it actually works,

*2018-07-07*

Those things are rarely said together so it is worth repeating:
It’s from the government, it’s free, easy to use and it actually works. Even the BP officer I spoke with seem almost giddy about it. What an amazing improvement over the old video phones.

### 5/5 — App crashes when trip page is displayed

*2018-04-18*

After an initial bug was fixed, this app works very well and is a big improvement over the old float plan SVRS. Just used it to clear returning from the Bahamas and it was quick and easy. 5 minutes After submitting the data, an officer came on the built in video conference, checked out faces and passport and done. Very nice system.
