Ads and stories run at the same time or multiple stories run at the same time. Stories stop abruptly. No consistency in volume. It was much better as part of the old app. This needs fixed badly. ### 1/5 — Poor quality app *2019-09-27, version 6.9.0* Unless I’m at home or some other high speed portal, the refuses to fully load. There are many other buggy issues with this which makes it difficult to listen to the top and bottom of hour newscasts. Always stops playing within a few minuets after you open the app - you must manually restart it using the Play button. To make matters worse, there is endless bragging about CBS news and all the rewards they have received, over, and over, again! Today it stopped playing after the first news report and refused to work at all - even after I restarted my iPad. Nuff said! ### 1/5 — Big Disappointment *2019-06-16, version 6.8.0* Why do I keep waiting for the update to this app? Every time I run it I get extremely frustrated when two sound tracks play simultaneously and the volume is difficult to adjust. I used to download the World News Roundup podcast every morning before leaving for work. Now apparently the only way to get the podcast is through this app, which crashes almost every time I hit the download button. Other times it will show as downloaded, but then nothing plays back. Did anyone bother to test this before releasing this version? Please fix it. That was my favorite feature of this app. ### 2/5 — Good News, Awful App *2018-12-28, version 6.3.0* Awful interface that looks like a website from the late 90s. The app is all over place — sometimes it crashes, sometimes you’ll get an unskippable ad when you open it (though sometimes you won’t). Half the time it crashes when you try to download audio for offline listening. It’s hard to believe that one of the biggest, most powerful media companies in America has an app this amateurish. Please get this app into the 21st century and I’ll happily update my review. ### 1/5 — Crash *2018-11-28, version 6.3.0* I used the app everyday, but every time I try to open recently the app crashes. Seeing other reviews, I tried to delete and reinstall, but continued to crash. But as other reviewers have said, that is a lie. It may have been my favorite CarPlay app. But now the app is nothing but ads. So the only thing that works is listening to live radio. None of the other features work anymore. I sent a message to the developer. But they haven’t updated the app in almost a year. ### 1/5 — Very glitchy app *2022-05-18, version 8.1.1* First of all, the news content itself is very good, and I’ll continue to use this app even though it has a lot of issues. One of the biggest problems for me is that it will pause in the middle of a story, then another story will start playing after it resumes. Secondly, two news stories will play simultaneously after you close the advertisements during the startup of the app. These problems have been ongoing for awhile now. For a mainstream news media outlet like CBS, you would think that they would have better app designers. ### 1/5 — Terrible app that should be much better *2022-05-09, version 8.1.1* Developers: Start over from scratch and make a good app. For one thing, there is no way to pause or stop play, even by minimizing the app. There is no way to close it, except by opening an app like Tunein and playing something. The most recent broadcasts are not available, and usually only one is. It is absolutely terrible and reflects very poorly on CBS. ### 1/5 — Auto-Play Broken *2022-03-31, version 8.1.1* When opening this app, the auto play opens to two simultaneous audio streams. Unusable. I would like there to be a clear setting in the CBS News Radio app to auto-play only the hourly news update on app launch / alarm clock wake-up. Is there a way to enable this? ### 1/5 — Doesn’t want to work *2022-02-27, version 6.19* Just like that office temp with an attitude problem, this app just doesn’t want to work. It keeps saying there’s no internet connection despite the fact all my other apps are connecting fine to the web (or more precisely the three other ones I tested out while getting this message from this app). Since you won’t be paying a dime you might as well see if it works for you, though ### 1/5 — CarPlay is a mess! *2022-01-22, version 6.19* I’ve used this app in my car via CarPlay to get the hourly news and half hour updates. Though a bit buggy, it’s generally worked for quite a while. It has not worked properly since iOS 15. I can get the live feed, but all the recorded news shows as blank. It’s not that it won’t play. The CarPlay app doesn’t even show the podcasts. They are still on the iPhone app and will play from there, but I don’t access my phone while driving. That’s what CarPlay is for. ### 1/5 — Glitches *2021-09-29, version 6.19* Where to start. Takes forever to load and at times won’t connect to internet. Podcasts won’t load properly. Downloaded podcast will not play. I NEED THIS APP FOR CLASSROOM USE. I have used KCBS for 35 years and I am now having to use the ABC news app as a replacement. PLEASE UPDATE. ### 1/5 — Hot mess *2021-08-19, version 6.19* I read the negative reviews from years ago and thought, “Well they must have fixed it by now.” Nope. On the iphone once you open it it plays news radio, the off switch doesn’t work, so you have to swipe it off your screen to turn it off. Oh,and the ads are intrusive. That’s as far as I got before deleting it. ### 1/5 — Spying on you! *2020-12-09, version 6.9.0* When I have copied something from the notes on my phone to the clipboard and then open the CBS News Radio app, I get a notification saying that CBS News Radio has pasted what I had on my clipboard. Please do and poof it will be fixed!! Old review: I used to love to listen to the news updates in the morning. But now every time I launch the app it crashes. Thanks for realizing there was a problem you're back to 5 ***** ### 5/5 — Best audio news app *2011-02-09, version 1.0* This app quickly made it to my iPhone home screen. Very easy to use, and truly well-designed and programmed. There are really only two strong radio news organizations these days, in my opinion: CBS Radio and National Public Radio. Each approaches news on the hour about the same. The differences come in the two networks' other programming offers. NPR is great with the long-form. CBS, given they serve commercial stations, have a lot of short programs that are exceptional. Bill Whitney's "Sidebar", Harley Carnes' "Not Just Another Story", Harry Smith's "Just A Minute", and many others are short, informative and well-produced. The way this app serves them up, they are great quick bites of stories and commentary you might otherwise miss. You can always find an NPR station, it seems. CBS Radio News affiliates are all over as well, but often are on lower-powered AM signals. When I am in the car in south central Wisconsin, I can pull in WBBM-AM from Chicago for CBS News. But even when close to Madison, it is hard on most radios to get their weak-signaled local affiliate. As a long-time listener over three decades living in Chicago, I am happy to have an app that offers so much from CBS Radio News. And you can't beat the price: free. ### 4/5 — I like this app *2015-03-01, version 2.3.1* This app is awesome. I like to listen to CBS News whenever I can. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is not available for the iPad. Also, I read the description and it said that all CBS radio newscasts, with the exception of the CBS World News Roundup and the CBS-TV newscasts are for three minutes, and they are actually four minutes (five counting the one minute commercial break). ### 4/5 — Very good but could be great ... *2011-05-03, version 1.0.1* Great content but the app would benefit from: A time slider which would allow listener to fast forward and rewind, as well as displaying total time and elapsed time for each clip. Retention of older clips for all shows and for a longer period of time (I'd be interested in hearing what the lead story was earlier in the day, or hearing Eye on Washington from the previous day, etc.) Inclusion of additional features, like Dave Ross and The Osgood Report. A weekly program guide for regular programming on the live feed. Some “fun” items, such as the promos for the coming weekend's sports programming, e.g. College and NFL Football on Westwood One. You are well on the way to a 5-star rating. I hope this feedback helps! ### 3/5 — Why update? *2012-10-13, version 2.0.1* The previous version was clearer, less cluttered. You open the app now and something/someone is talking at you. I prefer to choose what I want to listen to, with a clear menu that offers choices when I log in. This update does not give you that chance. Who is it that is turning stable and serviceable apps into mazes that must be conquered? I love CBS news and you had a great app. Now you have one that is cutsie. Congrats to the nerd who concocted this mess and who just knew the rest of us would see the world like he does. Wrong. ### 2/5 — Needs an update! *2019-04-27, version 6.8.0* For the last several months when I open the app it will play between 5 seconds to a minute or two and then shut off. I use the sleep alarm function and it has nothing to do with that. Every night I have to restart the app. Annoying! But I love the news updates at any time, only it’s boring I. The weekend because it isn't updated enough. ### 2/5 — An Audio Nightmare *2019-03-07, version 6.8.0* This app had the potential to be one of my favorite apps for any mobile device ... however at this time I absolutely cannot stand to listen to this app. CBS apparently has no clue what audio normalization is. Volume issues with this app are a nightmare in my vehicle. When I did try this app out, I spent a full week trying to see how it would fare as a primary news app while I am on the road as a truck driver. The result was a constant battle with the volume control. Every time the story would change from one narration to the next, I either could not hear the speaker at all or the sound would blow my ears out. I quickly realized that this was actually causing a major distraction in my driving. With the amount of time I was putting into the volume control, I may as well have been texting and driving or something just as dangerous. I conclusion, I have decided to ditch this app and go back to another news app to get my news while I drive. I wish I did not have to as the other app spends more time asking for donations than actually delivering news to my ears.
