### 1/5 — Unresponsive 80% of the time

*2023-10-13, version 3.11.0*

The only thing this app is useful for is to look up trash collection days (which just links you to a website) and submitting a 311 request (usually). The app is extremely slow in any of it’s look-ups or screen refreshes.

No updates to the app in over a year, meaning that any complaints are being ignored. (Probably a waste of time writing this detailed review)

When trying to look at the status of existing requests, the app becomes unresponsive. If you let it sit for a few minutes, one or two items will get a thumbnail picture showing up (assuming the thumbnail fetch action is causing the lock-up). You cannot click into any of the items on the list for more info. The search box lets you enter an address. If you click the filter icon, nothing happens. If you click on the map view icon, nothing happens. If you pull down to refresh the page, you get the spinning wheel of death. If you navigate away from the app and come back, the wheel is there, but no longer spinning.

You are better off just bookmarking links to the City’s website than using this app.

### 1/5 — Why bother

*2023-09-12, version 3.11.0*

The app is glitchy, and if you call the number you have to go through so many hoops to then speak to the most rude and retched person like Dorothy who forgets she is supposed to be helpful! Why create an app that causes more frustration why hire Dorothy who couldn’t find empathy and understanding if it was right in front for her!

Columbus be better! Dorothy learn to be kinder!

### 1/5 — Don’t bother

*2023-09-07, version 3.11.0*

Will not let me log in; same name and password works fine on a web browser. Freezes frequently. Seriously, don’t waste your time trying to use this garbage. Go directly to your web browser.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2023-07-25, version 3.11.0*

Useless app which is par for the course.

### 1/5 — “cbus” Are you kidding?

*2023-06-13*

Who on earth signed off naming this app using a slur? It is disgusting and offensive that anyone associated with the City of Columbus would use this insulting term for our city on an official product. Change it. Further, the app and 311 website run by a private company called Rock Solid promises to sell Columbus citizens’ information “to partners for marketing.” This is a functional and privacy nightmare and whomever signed off on this should be fired.

### 1/5 — Typical Government Product

*2023-01-19, version 3.11.0*

Glitchy, awful, and in every way an expected failure of something created/funded by the City of Columbus.

### 1/5 — Terrible platform, terrible responses

*2022-11-02, version 3.11.0*

This app is terrible. I have submitted 2 separate noise complaints for a construction project doing loud work at 1am. In both cases, I got a response saying the request was being sent to the “Licensing Section to see if proper work permits were obtained”. The. The request was immediately closed. No follow-up. No addressing the level of noise (regardless of any permits). Just a black hole. Tried going to their website and it’s just this “app” in a browser window and it won’t let me add any comments in the service requests and I just get an error.

This is an example of City government outsourcing so they can “do the technology”, but the outsource company does a WORSE job than the City had before.

### 1/5 — Slow and never got respond

*2022-10-12, version 3.11.0*

App is slow, request button took me a few minutes to find. Never got updates nor responses. DO NOT recommend.

### 1/5 — Garbage

*2022-07-02, version 3.10.1*

Was directed from the old app to download this app to submit a 311 request. Won’t accept my old login and won’t let me create a new one. Sooo…

### 1/5 — App finicky, not intuitive, poor service

*2022-06-20, version 3.10.1*

I don’t usually write poor reviews but this app (and the folks behind it) either are incredibly poorly staffed, inexperienced UI engineers, or not interested in the needs of their users (which seems to be the whole draw of the product?)

Not always easy to use, form fill is clunky at best, and no real confirmation or trust that request is being looked at.

I requested bulk pickup three times for them to close the request around 11pm-12am the night before a pickup. There’s no way to follow up or communicate with them regarding this either. No support, no way to copy and paste requests, and even when I did call, their phone line disconnects after 5 minutes on hold. In general, this product is not usable, trustworthy, or accessible. I would contact the city about this if I could but I have a feeling they already know and aren’t interested in remedying the issue.

### 1/5 — Passwords don’t work

*2022-05-16, version 3.10.1*

You would think something as simple as inputting the same email and password that works online would work on this app. No it does not.

### 1/5 — Lowest bidder Software

*2022-05-11, version 3.10.1*

The 311 system is everything you’ve come to expect, from a poorly run bureaucratic nightmare of a city service. The 311 system should do away with the phone number or any suggestion of using it. NO ONE EVER ANSWERS IT. The online system is a mess. The simple act of just trying to get my trash picked up, takes way to long to accomplish. NOT A SATISFIED CONSTITUENT.

### 1/5 — Columbus 311: A Stunning Failure of Basic Functionality

*2026-08-19, version 3.15.0*

This is an astonishing level of incompetence for a basic city service.

I attempted to submit a Columbus 311 request on an iPad using the specific link the City provides for Apple users. I completed the entire form, only to discover that the “Done” button at the bottom is effectively inaccessible. The page has a rubber-band scrolling effect: I can pull the page up far enough to see the Done button, but I have to physically hold the screen in that position. The moment I release it, the page snaps back, and the button cannot be activated.

Thinking this might be an iPad-specific problem, I downloaded the CBUS 311 app on my iPhone and tried again. Same problem. I cannot even submit the request.

So after entering all of the information multiple times, using both the City’s designated Apple-user link and its official app on two different Apple devices, I am still unable to complete a basic 311 request because the interface literally will not allow me to press “Done.”

This is beyond frustrating. Residents pay taxes to fund these services. Being able to successfully submit a simple service request should be the absolute minimum standard. The fact that the City has an Apple-specific link and an iPhone app and neither one can reliably complete the submission process is an extraordinary failure of basic testing and usability.

### 1/5 — CBUS 311

*2026-06-26, version 3.15.0*

This app hasn’t been updated in over a year. I guess I expect this considering the Nimrods that run the city

### 1/5 — Totally worthless app

*2026-03-14, version 3.15.0*

Can't set up an account. Can't reset a password. Can't do a damn thing..just like the corrupt city government that it represents.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t load

*2025-11-02, version 3.15.0*

Never got to actually use this app because it never loads past the photo of the city

### 1/5 — Nice picture

*2025-05-06, version 3.15.0*

So I downloaded the app. When it opens it just displays a picture of downtown Columbus. Don’t get me wrong it’s a lovely picture, but the the app is useless unless you need a screensaver for your phone.

### 1/5 — “cbus” Are you kidding?

*2025-04-26, version 3.15.0*

### 1/5 — Broken

*2024-07-24, version 3.14.0*

Can’t get past entering the location. Can’t use 311 on iPhone on Safari or Chrome either. 🤷🏼‍♀️

### 1/5 — Absolutely useless and infuriating

*2024-07-23, version 3.14.0*

Downloaded to submit a bulk pickup request since the website doesn’t work whatsoever. Unsurprisingly, neither does this app. The address search return nothing at all or sometimes pop-up errors that the address is not within the jurisdiction even when you’re still trying to type. The pop up continues even after you exit and cancel the request as long as you’re still in the app.

The ‘about app’ section has no options for help or contact numbers. Utterly useless.

### 1/5 — Nice App…When It Works!

*2024-07-18, version 3.14.0*

Have used this app a few times, but usually end up just calling because the app rarely woywhen I need it. Waste of resources.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great App

*2025-06-25, version 3.15.0*

I just love the Cbus app!

### 5/5 — Works great

*2024-04-01, version 3.13.1*

The app functions flawlessly, meeting expectations superbly.

### 5/5 — Pretty good

*2024-01-23*

The CBUS 311 app functioned as expected. I successfully submitted a service request, and the city promptly picked up my bulk item.

### 5/5 — This is great!

*2023-02-27, version 3.11.0*

Worked as expected. I was able to submit my issue to the city and it got resolved within a few weeks.

### 4/5 — Seems pretty good?

*2022-04-18, version 3.10.1*

Sure a lot is links to existing web content but that could be useful for people new to the area. Perhaps they could add links to other sites like the auditors website but maybe that's outside of the app's scope. The knowledge could be beefed up a bit but I imagine that will happen over time.

That said, the request submitting process seems pretty streamlined and I'm guessing that's the main focus here.

### 3/5 — Not great, not terrible

*2022-06-06, version 3.10.1*

The “app” is not a native iOS app, just a container for the website. The user experience is marginally acceptable to someone with an IT background. For everyone else – this is not usable at all. I was able to accomplish scheduling a trash pickup… but only installed this app because the website was inoperative at the moment. I would not recommend this app to anyone.

### 3/5 — Not polished

*2022-05-07, version 3.10.1*

This app is marginally easier than using the website, but it has a lot of shortcomings. It appears to be a thin wrapper around a mobile site rather than a native mobile app, and this cost cutting shows. The app doesn’t keep you logged in after you close it and it frequently redirects you to a browser. The city can and should do better.

### 2/5 — Needs improvement

*2025-09-25, version 3.15.0*

Flaky UI, when attempting to create 311 requests often get unable to create request.

Other times get error, then it creates the request.

Reached out to 311 via feedback.

### 2/5 — Giving You All the Things You Don’t Need

*2024-02-09, version 3.13.1*

The app, like the city itself, is great at self promotion but really backwards and out of date with other things. For instance, it’s 2024 and there is still no app to pay city water bills and other utilities. And then when you do it online they charge you extra for using a credit card or debit card but not if you use a personal check. So much potential wasted.

### 2/5 — Old app was better

*2022-05-05, version 3.10.1*

So far I’m not impressed. The old app had notifications for trash and recycling pick up that alerted me the evening before. With the new app I can only do email or calendar notifications. The calendar notification will only email me at 9 AM on the day of collection, which is too late to set out trash. The only other option is a notification at 9 AM the day before, while I am at work and can’t set my trash out. Also it looks like bulk trash pick up requests are more complicated on this new app. Personally I think a city as large as Columbus could do better.
